How often do you see a photo of a dog with multiple likes or shares etc. and then sit wondering to yourself, why doesn't my content get that kind of interaction? There's a reason for this......you're not connecting with your audience correctly. The thing about a picture of a dog is it hits people on an emotional connection level. My point being that you truly need to know your IDEAL CUSTOMER, your AVATAR to understand the type of content that will appeal to them. I'm not suggesting you chase metrics at all because they're purely vanity and will do your content reach no good at all if you have 1000's of followers but very few likes etc, however, if you hit correctly with your content the change could be quite dramatic for your social media and also most importantly.....your business. I was recently speaking to an old consultation client who was actually still not creating content, and the age old excuse of time came out again. As this was the case I stood and reeled off 4 tools they could use to create content easily at a small cost without even thinking about coming to my agency to do it all in house for them. So, i'm seeing it more and more, people complaining that their posts aren't reaching as wide an audience as they use too. "they've changed the algorithm" "it's not in chronological order" "what's the point nobody see's my stuff".....we all tend to forget that at base level these platforms are FREE. They're there for us to use at no cost and publicise our brands and business, if the platforms change, so be it, we need to educate ourselves as to what will work and what won't and get creating. The 5p's of going live, preparation prevents piss poor performance. Too many of us treat social media as if it switches off on a weekend and forget there's a whole new audience for us to speak too. Who remembers watching Big Bird, Oscar The Grouch and Cookie Monster as a child. Of course we do, it’s #sesamestreetday and let’s be honest it’s an institution really helping children learn how to count, spell and actually just be a good human being too. So, why when it comes to something new like social media, just because it’s FREE do we assume we know how to use it to help build our brand or business? Someone having used social media and maybe even having one viral post does not make them an expert in social media marketing. Also, because someone can create and stick content out for you does not mean they’re a creative either. Please, take some time to sit down and learn about social media and what you can do and what would require an expert team to help so you get the RIGHT results rather than what you assume is good because you know no better. Getting your customer service right is essential, especially when it comes to responding to the good the bad and the ugly on social media. Too many brands either ignore or simply try to sweep stuff under the carpet by ignoring and blocking people. However, this happened this last weekend with a well known kitchen brand on Twitter to find the person complaining was backed up by 100's of angry supporters.....all because they chose to try to ignore the situation. Today is World Quality Day, a day to talk about the quality of service and products you've bought previously. This is prime estate right now as it's currently the weekend and many brands and businesses believe for some reason that because they do, social media only works a 5 day week. If there's one thing you need to ensure is that your social media team or marketing department or external supplier is answering your social media DM's on a weekend. Put yourself in the customers shoes, if you complained about a product and received nothing back from the company from Friday night until Monday morning at 9am, so over 60 hours, you'd quite rightly be a bit pissed off, especially as we all treat social media as far more instant than email or picking up the phone. So you sure as hell need to be responding to people good or bad on a weekend because social media DOES NOT switch off.
