Joe Nielsen; Ram’s Gate Winery
20/03/2023 Duração: 57minIt’s Monday, Let’s raise a glass to the beginning of another week. It’s time to unscrew, uncork or saber a bottle and let’s begin Exploring the Wine Glass! Today, I am sitting down with Joe Nielsen of Ram’s Gate Winery in Sonoma. Winemakers come from a variety of backgrounds, but it isn’t too often you hear about one coming from Michigan and having to petition a school to allow him access into their newly created oenology program, because he wasn’t 21 years old yet! As General Manager and Winemaker at Ram’s Gate Winery, Joe approaches winemaking from all angles: driving sustainable farming practices, sourcing small-gem vineyards, using family owned coopers, as well as introducing native and whole-cluster fermentation. Isabella Grape on Winephabet Street
13/03/2023 Duração: 01h03minIt’s Monday, Let’s raise a glass to the beginning of another week. It’s time to unscrew, uncork or saber a bottle and let’s begin Exploring the Wine Glass! Today, we return to Winephabet Street. The letter of the day is I and we are discussing the grape variety, Isabella. These are exciting episodes for me, because prior to setting up the schedule for this season, I had never heard of this grape variety. So it was a great learning experience for me too! We had hybrid grape specialist Steven Casscles on to answer all of our questions. Sadly, we were not able to acquire a bottle to taste, but Steve did a fantastic job of describing its qualities, both in the glass and in the vineyard. Jumilla in NYC; History and Tasting
06/03/2023 Duração: 54minIt’s Monday, Let’s raise a glass to the beginning of another week. It’s time to unscrew, uncork or saber a bottle and let’s begin Exploring the Wine Glass! If you are familiar with me or this podcast, you know how much I love Spanish wine. Today I am sharing a recording about the wines of Jumilla. The Great Spain Match was held at Little Spain in NYC. It was a perfect location to celebrate the wines of this supra-automous region. Although the majority of the wine is produced in the Murcia DO, vineyards are also found in Castile-La Mancha. The region experiences a continental climate with mediterranean influences and is located on the Altiplano range. The vineyards are up to 2600 ft. ABS and 96% of the wines are red, primarily Monastrell. Please take a moment to rate and review the podcast. Did you know you can do it right now, while you are listening? Hondarrabi Zuri on Winephabet Street
23/01/2023 Duração: 01h16minIt’s Monday, Let’s raise a glass to the beginning of another week. It’s time to unscrew, uncork or saber a bottle and let’s begin Exploring the Wine Glass! Today, we return to Winephabet Street, where the letter of the day is H. I was so excited for this episode. Anytime I can talk about a Spanish region or grape variety, I am happy! Which is one of the reasons why I decided to go through the Spanish Wine Scholar program. For the letter H, we chose Hondarrabi Zuri from the autonomous region Pais Vasco. Seen on a label as Txakoli, the white grape variety is a slightly sparkling, very dry white wine with high acidity and low alcohol. And who would we ask to be our guest? Of course Rick Fisher - The Spanish Wine Guy. Please take a moment to rate and review the podcast. Did you know you can do it right now, while you are listening? An Introduction to Jumilla
09/01/2023 Duração: 01h34minIt’s Monday, Let’s raise a glass to the beginning of another week. It’s time to unscrew, uncork or saber a bottle and let’s begin Exploring the Wine Glass! Today, I am sharing an exciting conversation with some producers in Jumilla, Spain Jumilla DO is located in south eastern Spain and is a supra-autonomous region. This means that it spans across two separate regions; Castilla La Mancha and Murcia. The only other two DOs that have this qualification are Rioja and Cava. The winemakers here are dedicated to sustainable farming and although there are many varieties produced in the region, Monastrell is the Queen. Please take a moment to rate and review the podcast. 26/12/2022 Duração: 59minIt’s Monday, Let’s raise a glass to the beginning of another week. It’s time to unscrew, uncork or saber a bottle and let’s begin Exploring the Wine Glass! Graciano on Winephabet Street
19/12/2022 Duração: 01h14minIt’s Monday, Let’s raise a glass to the beginning of another week. It’s time to unscrew, uncork or saber a bottle and let’s begin Exploring the Wine Glass! Today we return to Winephabet Street where the letter of the day is G and it stands for Graciano. Our guest sponsor for the episode is Jada Vineyards and our special guest is the one and only Josh Harp, This is his third time on the podcast and he continues to be a wealth of information. Graciano is popular in Navarra and Rioja regions of Spain. It found its way to California and although not the most popular grape variety it is relatively quite a bit in Paso Robles. There were 280 tons crushed in 2021, which may not sound like a lot, but considering there were only 980 tons crushed across all of California that equates to 29% of all of the state. Back in September I read a blog post written by Robin Bell Renker in which she discussed Dineen Vineyards Cabernet Franc. And as you know, when I hear Cab Franc, my ears perk up! I reached out to Marissa Dineen and asked if she would be interested in chatting up Cab Franc. It took a bit of time due to this year’s crazy harvest, but we finally got to sit down and share a glass together. Please take a moment to rate and review the podcast. Cleo Pahlmeyer; Wayfarer Vineyard
05/12/2022 Duração: 01h29sIt’s Monday, Let’s raise a glass to the beginning of another week. It’s time to unscrew, uncork or saber a bottle and let’s begin Exploring the Wine Glass! Sometimes, the stars align and an accident happens that turns into a great opportunity. I had reached out to West Sonoma Coast AVA for some information and about 2 weeks later I received an email from Cleo Pahlmeyer. Although I knew who she was, I didn’t know why she was reaching out. As it turns out, there was some miscommunication with the AVA’s association, but it opened the door for this incredible fantastic interview about Cleo and Wayfarer Vineyard.
