Hey family, People are leaving the church and deconstructing their Christian faith in alarming numbers. Many would say they are disillusioned with God because of the hypocrisy of Christians. There has never been a more important time to ask what a truly life-changing encounter with God looks like. This Sunday we will be looking at the story of Jacob wrestling with God, to see what it has to teach on this very urgent question. Does it ever seem to you that many people today are not responsible to anybody? That they're just out for themselves, doing their own thing, whatever seems right to them? This Sunday we'll be looking back at a time in Bible history which was very similar. At the time of the Book of Judges, Moses was long dead, and David would not be king for generations to come. Again and again the people disobeyed God and got themselves into trouble. But God was gracious; he sent leaders called judges to guide the people through dangerous times. Hey Family, Now that we’ve spent several weeks in our FAMILY MATTERS series talking about what the new family of God looks like, this Sunday we’ll talk about how to express ourselves in uncomfortable, difficult situations. This message is so important, because we will always have difficult people that we have to respond to in our lives, and sometimes we ourselves will be those difficult people. But did you know we can learn to be our best selves in those moments—whether it’s with our children, our parents, spouse, friends, co-workers, or even just a stranger on the street? Hey family, everybody knows that when you’re part of a family it’s really important to join together to do whatever it is God wants you to do. For example, when you’re throwing a party, you’re all meeting at someone’s house, people are cooking the food, someone else is doing the dishes, etc. Or think about when you help somebody move. People in the family are packing, and someone is lifting the heavy boxes, and somebody else volunteers to drive the truck. When we’re in a family, we have to agree that part of loving one another is serving one another. This week we get to learn a great deal about how we have been served—and how the fact that we have been served will equip us to serve others. Hey family, In our society people turn to various sources in search of the truth. Whatever you think of the terms “fake news” and “alternate facts,” they do bring up a good question—where can we find the truth? There’s so much on the line if we get it wrong. If we believe lies, our marriages and relationships will be in trouble. Our children will not benefit from great wisdom. Our whole society will suffer. It’s vital that we have the truth to rely on. These are big questions for us to wrestle with. So this Sunday we’re going to talk about how we can find the truth. You don’t want to miss this. Hey family, There’s no way around it. In this world, all of us are going to experience moments when our lives seem to be falling apart. And in those times we wonder, where is God? Does he really love us? When our hearts are breaking, the tears don’t stop coming, the pain is too great, we all can go through a crisis of faith. But what we come to understand is, God uses our suffering for things that are beyond our comprehension in the moment, but are always for our good.
