Hey family, Last week was a very emotional service. We started to examine times when we’ve been hurt, places where we feel justified to feel real bitterness and rage due to the harsh things that have been done to us – perhaps in the past, maybe even now in the present. As we looked at this, we saw that the religious response of stuffing down our feelings with platitudes that are hollow in the midst of tears is not helpful. Neither is exploding and releasing all our anger on the institutions, individuals, or systems that have harmed us. This week we’re going to take another deep dive into anger and discover how the scriptures can help us not only heal, but even use anger as a tool to grow in peace and trust in the Lord. Hey family, I'm dreaming of a white Christmas.... For some, Christmas is the season of beauty, good will, and joy. But for others of us, it's a reminder of loss and pain and suffering. God is not unfamiliar with this. Christ was born during a time of loss and struggle for the Jewish people. God chose that hour to show that He is in control of every circumstance in life, even our most painful and difficult moments. And not only is God in control, but he is actively for us, and with us, and loving us. Please invite a friend to hear this good news. To abide in Christ means to keep up a habit of constant close communion with him–to be always leaning on him, resting on him, pouring out our hearts to him, and using him as our fountain of life and strength. Hey family, how we imagine God will always determine how we approach him. If we imagine him as angry, we will hide from him. If we imagine him as disappointed, we will hang our heads in shame. In Psalm 18, King David gives us several images for who God is. If we have eyes to see, we will know that God is our rock, refuge, and shield––we can run to him, trust him, and follow him with confidence and joy. Hey family, As summer draws to a close, let us give thanks to God for all his blessings. Whether you got to go to the beach or not, whether you had a nice vacation or not, whether your air conditioner broke down (or you didn't have an air conditioner at all), start every day with an attitude of gratitude for what God has done in your life.
