Hey family, The Old Testament book of Ruth is the story of God's grace in the midst of difficult circumstances, told through the lives of two women in crisis. If you are feeling unwanted, unloved, or discouraged, please come this Sunday to hear how God is at work in the world. Our guest speaker will be Richard Lee, a longtime pastor who is now a sought-after speaker on the issues of justice and violence. In his current role with International Justice Mission, he trains others to carry on the message of ending injustice on the world stage. Hey family, There have been so many times when I thought I'd never be able to forgive myself--for things that I said, actions that I took, even thoughts that I had that I wish I could take back. In our last week of THE GRUDGE series we're going to talk about how the hardest person to forgive can be yourself. Hey family, This Sunday, April 2, is Palm Sunday--the day that commemorates Jesus riding into Jerusalem on a young donkey as hundreds cheer and praise him. Jesus entered the city knowing he would be tried and crucified. Still he welcomed his fate, knowing that he would rise from the grave and save us all from sin. Palm Sunday is the beginning of Holy Week, the remembrance of Jesus' last days. Good Friday will be this coming Friday, the 7th, and Easter is April 9. Hey family, Many of the horrors and the sorrows that we’ve experienced in our lives have been self-inflicted wounds. Things that we’ve done because we judged ourselves so harshly, we can only respond with negative actions. Some of the vicious words we say to ourselves we would never say to anyone else—because if we did, we’d have no friends to speak of. “You’re stupid. You’re ugly. You’ll never amount to anything. Why did you think you could do that? You’re so dumb.” All of these phrases have one thing in common, which is that they are narratives and scripts that we’ve developed throughout our lives and use on ourselves in an unconscious way—we don’t even realize we’re doing it. So the question is, how can we be free of self-hatred? That’s what we’re going to spend our time discussing this Sunday. Hey family, Some of the most crushing insults we ever receive come from parents, teachers, or friends—but there’s nothing more debilitating than the kind of language we use on ourselves. This is self-hatred. A negative script that runs through our mind can make it impossible to move forward in relationships, find a new job, even dream for better things. We now enter the season of Lent, leading up to Easter on April 9. Every year it offers us the chance to reflect on the incredible sacrifice that our savior made by dying for our sins and saving our souls. We want to look at our own lives and how we can express a deep sense of gratitude and connectedness to God.
