Good Thursday morning from Joe Mathieu and the WGBH Morning Edition team. Another day in self-quarantine, another day of social isolation, another Early Edition live from home via Zoom conferencing. We know you’re all out there dealing with the same issues so we definitely empathize with everyone stuck at home working and home schooling their kids at the same time. Governor Baker announced yesterday that schools will remain closed at least through April. Meanwhile down in DC the President once again is lashing out at the media for perceived slights against him. Good Wednesday morning from Joe Mathieu and the WGBH Morning Edition team. We’re live from our homes in the age of social distancing and self-isolation. In a “town hall” meeting yesterday on his favorite network, President Trump said he’s hopeful he can “re-open” the country in time for Easter Sunday. However the advice from Dr. Fauci and other senior medical advisers indicates that may be highly optimistic and premature to announce. Meanwhile in Massachusetts it’s day two of our emergency lockdown, and for most of us it just feels a lot like last week. We’ll get through this together, so stay safe, stay home and stay tuned to WGBH News and WGBH Radio.

We catch you up on the news of the day including Governor Baker’s decision to close all non-essential businesses beginning at noon today. The exception list is pretty lengthy however, so we’ll take you through what will still be open. President Trump has grown impatient with the struggling economy and has proclaimed “the cure can’t be worse than the disease”, further worrying most Americans. This may be the last Early Edition we have together in the same room for awhile as remote broadcasting may become our new norm for the foreseeable future. We’ll make the best of it today but Early Edition may sound and look a little different for awhile. Good Thursday morning from WGBH’s Morning Edition team… we’re not sure if we can even call it “Little Friday” because if you haven’t gone in to work this week Friday just hits us differently. Wall Street is still struggling, and today’s futures aren’t looking very bright either. Governor Baker has ordered all child-care centers be closed by Monday, making suddenly stay-at-home parent’s jobs even harder. And Mayor Walsh is warning that a shelter-in-place order is still a possibility for the City of Boston IF the spread of the virus continues to progress. The world continues to change even down to our pastimes, as St. Patrick’s Day had to take place with social distancing, and Tom Brady is leaving Boston, likely announcing that destination later today. Mayor Marty Walsh gave a rare direct address to residents of the City of Boston yesterday and emphasized unity and focused on “who we are”. Good Tuesday Morning from Joe Mathieu and the WGBH Morning Edition team. Massachusetts is preparing to shut itself down today as all schools will close and only essential employees that cannot work from home will be going in for work. A noticeably different tone coming out of the White House yesterday as it seems the President is finally treating this with the seriousness it deserves. And it’s St. Patrick’s Day, but don’t expect to head out to have your green beer and boiled dinner. These are strange and stressful times and WGBH will continue to be here to keep you informed… thank you for tuning in, and stay safe out there.

This is definitely the start of a strange week as the State of Massachusetts is essentially preparing to shut down for the next few weeks. Restaurants, bars, schools, and many places of work will be shut down or operating on reduced service. Joe updates us on the latest overnight developments including the slashing of interest rates and DOW futures looking down again this morning. The President spoke to the nation last night and announced a travel ban and emergency financial aid. The NBA has suspended all league play indefinitely after a player on the Utah Jazz had a presumptive positive test. And actor Tom Hanks announced that both himself and his wife have been diagnosed. Another night of primaries is in the book, and after being left for dead after Iowa and New Hampshire, Joe Biden is closing on the democratic nomination in a dramatic turnaround for his campaign. Meanwhile closer to home Governor Baker has declared a state of emergency in Massachusetts for the spread of the coronavirus. Good Friday morning, you’ve almost made it to the weekend… thanks for starting it with Joe Mathieu and WGBH. President Trump tried his best to spin the impact of the coronavirus on the US economy, but markets once again are cautious and poised to open lower. MA Senator Elizabeth Warren bowed out of the race yesterday at her home in Cambridge, and a lot of tears were shed. No word yet on her next move or who she’ll endorse. The Bruins won a fun won last night, and our audience is worried that Brendan may have been quarantined. Happy weekend everybody, make sure you enjoy it.

Good Thursday morning from WGBH and Morning Edition. In the face of increasing outbreaks of coronavirus, the MBTA has announced they’ll be stepping up cleaning and sanitation of trains and stations. Meanwhile the President is once again contradicting the World Health Organization and his own CDC by downplaying the death toll and the seriousness of the outbreak. Great night for the Celtics last night in Cleveland without many of their best players on the court. And today is the 250th anniversary of the Boston Massacre and the dawn of the revolutionary war… we’ll have more on that coming up on Morning Edition. Thanks as always for waking up with WGBH.

They’ve counted the votes and Joe Biden is surging, with Bernie Sanders remains close behind in the race for the Democratic nomination. Our own Senator Elizabeth Warren did not fare as well (even here in Massachusetts) but is vowing to stay in the race and keep fighting the good fight. Plus the President checked in on the results and even polled his supporters in his own unique way. We’ll have details on the primary and more updates on the coronavirus all morning long. We are live in Control 5, where we are freshly disinfected with lysol wipes… there’s nothing quite like the smell of chemicals to wake you up. We have the latest on the race for the Democratic nomination, including two key bow-outs that led to endorsements for Joe Biden. And longtime MSNBC host Chris Matthews decided to retire live on the air, which left one anchor struggling to fill the remaining time.
