Simon was joined by author Isabelle Marinov whose latest book, Henri and the Machine, hits shops on July 6th. When Isabelle was 9 years old, her parents gave her a red typewriter for her birthday. She began typing away, crafting stories in German and in Luxembourgish, her native language. Growing up, “writer” seemed like a non-existent job description. Isabelle studied law in France and in the US and got a "proper" job. But she secretly continued to write in the evenings and on weekends. After her first son was born, she returned to her lifelong passion––writing, and for the first time, she thought about it as a job. Isabelle speaks four languages fluently but for a reason that defies her, English is her preferred language for prose.

Jean-Jacques Schonckert, president of Association pour le Droit de Mourir dans la Dignité Lëtzebuerg a.s.b.l., spoke with Simon about the work they do. The association was formed in 1988, on the initiative of the late Dr Henri CLEES and a group of determined idealists. Its objectives included the legalization of voluntary euthanasia and the guarantee of free choice of end of life which they hoped to achieve by raising public awareness and drafting a draft law. Their efforts have been rewarded by the signing of an agreement with the Ministry of Family Affairs, Integration and the Greater Region, entering into force on 01 January 2018, which allows the Society to create a professional structure for psychological support and accompaniment in adequate premises.

Uli Krentz from the Luxembourg-Manx Society celebrated his birthday by joining Simon and the breakfast Show crew to talk a bit about their history and about their upcoming BBQ. The society’s annual Tynwald Day BBQ will be held at the Black Stuff Irish Pub in Luxembourg-Polfermillen (15 Val de Hamm, L-1714) on Wednesday 5 July 2023, from 18:00. Tynwald Day is the national day of the Isle of Man, an island nation and self-governing British Crown Dependency located in the Irish Sea. As with every year, the organisers will be serving traditional Manx kippers as well as sausages and burgers. Everyone is welcome… Even Simon!

Anne Cuvillier, Head of Awareness and Education Development at the Unity Foundation, joined Simon on the Breakfast Show today to talk about two upcoming events they are involved with… Lëtz Cooperate is an event organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs along with 15 Luxembourgish NGOs to raise awareness on international cooperation and sustainable development through entertaining workshops, music concerts and food trucks. The event takes place on Friday June 30th (1pm to 7pm) at Place De Clairefontaine. National statistics bureau Statec earlier in June published a report that showed that levels of satisfaction with life in Luxembourg have gone done between 2018 and 2022. This is especially the case for young people below the age of 30. But what can be done to help young people and teens find joy in life again, when they're facing crisis after crisis and a big question mark looms over what their future will look like? Clinical psychologists Esther Giebels and Cécilia Grubers from Cepas shared their insight on the matter.

Francesca Tavanti and Rachel Thornton from RYSE (Refugee Youth Support & Empowerment) joined Simon on the Breakfast Show today to talk about the work they do with refugees. RYSE was created in November 2017 by 5 co-founders who, after having individually supported and accompanied young refugees in the country, decided to join forces in order to have a greater impact and reach a wider audience. RYSE works to eliminate the barriers and obstacles that young refugees encounter to enable them to integrate into the Luxembourg labour market and become active members of their host society.
