Judith Schleder, Event & Relationship Manager for Silicon Luxembourg, talked with Simon today about the Startup World Cup they recently attended and some of the exciting events they have planned for the coming months. The Startup World Cup winners were Circu Li-ion; a European battery upcycling startup that enables a circular lifecycle of batteries in three automated steps: 1. the dismantling of batteries, 2. the diagnosis of each cell, and 3. the reassembly based on reused components. Luxembourg gets a brand new publication on queer and gender and feminist studies. The first edition of the Cahiers QGF will be published this month. On Local Matters, Sandy Artuso tells what readers can expect and which other activities the research collective LEQGF has done so far.

Every few months, posters calling for people to donate their blood are plastered all over Luxembourg. Yet, blood stock levels still approach dangerously low levels at certain times of the year. Since blood donation is a completely voluntary gesture—unless you consider the free drink and biscuit after your payment—, is it that people are reluctant to donate or does Luxembourg really need an absurd supply of blood for its hospitals? To better understand why Luxembourg seems to suffer from a perpetual shortage of blood donors, and to demystify the practice itself, Vincent Ruck, communications manager at the Luxembourg Red Cross, came to talk on this episode of Whine and Shine with Tracy Heindrichs.

Alix Rassel, a Scottish national, came to Luxembourg over twenty years ago, when she was working in recruitement. Over time, her alcohol addiction became apparent--a health scare pushed her to change her ways. Rassel found the key to her journey to recovery through yoga, which she continues to practice and teach. Ambre Schulz from Passerell talked with Simon today and gave details of their upcoming conference about gender-based violence. Passerell receives daily migrant women and girls seeking international protection who share their stories. In an association (and less formal setting), it is easier for women to trust Passerell and share about the violence they have suffered. Part of this violence is perpetrated on these women simply because they are women. Stefanie Hidebrand of Kapenaker Blooms joined Simon to talk about The growing Slowflower movement. The Slowflower movement is always trying to look at the bigger picture, considering the questions: What is the mark I will leave? Who is responsible for my behavior? The Slowflower vision is a seasonal and sustainable flower market without toxins, without flowers having to be flown in, and flowers that are fairly produced! Stefanie has spent 20 years finding the land for her flower field and has now embarked on a slow flower journey. There have been some twists and turns along the way.

Vanessa Cum from the Fête de la Musique ASBL joined the Breakfast Show team to discuss the series of concerts happening in Luxembourg City and across the country from 16th June. Since 2000 in Luxembourg City, the Fête de la Musique has offered amateur and professional musicians the opportunity to perform during small free concerts in the public space.
