Pr 13:7 The Great Pretenders / RA

The Great Pretenders R Aylor We dress like we’re rich and drive fancy cars We critique last nights episode of dancing with the stars We raise up our nose with an air of dissent While our cable is canceled and we can’t pay the rent Yet some live like Granny and ole Jed Clampett They may own half the country while they live in a pit They go to a garage sale wearing their old crumpled hat Saying “Will ya take a quarter for that antique porcelain Australian wombat?” The poor know you can’t squeeze money from a poverty stricken debtor The rich know people want their money so they act like a penniless beggar But God knows its not all about the way you’re perceived He’s the greatest treasure in the Universe He died for you, he took your curse The more of him you give away, the bigger your purse And you’ll want him riding with you in that long b

Proverbs 10:6 RA Carry But Don't Conceal Jesus
10/12/2019 Duração: 05minProverbs in 365 Devotions For more go to braggingonjesus.com Proverbs 10:6 Blessings are on the head of the righteous, but the mouth of the wicked conceals violence. Carry But Don't Conceal Jesus R Aylor In some states within the US there is a law called “Conceal and Carry" which allow people to carry fire arms out of sight on their person for protection. (Of course there has to be courses taken and background checks or whatever a particular state requires to make sure they know what they are doing and are not a criminal… In everyday life a wicked man can conceal his inner motives with deceptive words… but he does not need a conceal and carry permit. This person may smile and flatter; even brag on others. He knows people are self centered and so he uses that to his advantage. He may have a way with words. He offers his delicacies, while at the same time concealing how he might use another for his own selfish gain. A self centered man has a goal where the end purpose is his own exaltation over the very

Proverbsd 10:4-5 RA / The Steadfast Slacker
09/12/2019 Duração: 05minProverbs in 365 Devotions For more go to braggingonjesus.com Proverbs 10:4 A slack hand causes poverty, but the hand of the diligent makes rich. 5 He who gathers in summer is a prudent son, but he who sleeps in harvest is a son who brings shame. Diligent Slacker R Aylor I am guessing that Americans are also one of the busiest of all people groups; many times both parents are working with much overtime and for the kids music lessons, soccer, dance, basketball football, wrestling or and debate every week. All this being said, I believe we are mostly a country and culture of slackers. This is quite a convicting text to me because I need to be more diligent and steadfast in the right things. You see, even a lazy person is consistent and steadfast; only it is not in righteousness. There's just not a lot of people I see that are willing to fully commit themselves to anything except from their own selfish drives. That sometimes involves greed (in work, toward money and more stuff), and pride (in always havi

Proverbsd 10:3 RA He Thwarts The Craving
09/12/2019 Duração: 05minProverbs in 365 Devotions For more go to braggingonjesus.com Proverbs 10:3 The LORD does not let the righteous go hungry, but he thwarts the craving of the wicked. He Thwarts The Craving R Aylor I expect that back in Solomon’s day wicked men ate and were full, as did the righteous. Surly, Solomon, being the wisest of men had seen many evil men eat until they're belly's were plump. So what is Solomon getting at here? The question that comes to my mind is whether the wicked man is truly ever satisfied? Does he ever have enough money? Does he ever have enough stuff? Does anything bring his life contentment? A human being experiences various types of hunger at different times in his life. He may have a hunger for knowledge or a hunger for food; for money and fame… Look, nothing in the world truly satisfies man… but a wicked man will keep grasping at the things in the world for fulfillment. All of our physical hungers point us to the most important craving that can only be satisfied by Jesus. John 6:35

09/12/2019 Duração: 07minHow Rudolph & Joseph Saved Christmas / R Aylor Genesis 37:3 Now Israel loved Joseph more than any other of his sons, because he was the son of his old age. Proverbs 10:2 Keep Your Treasures Without Profit!
08/12/2019 Duração: 06minProverbs in 365 Devotions For more go to braggingonjesus.com Proverbs 10:2 Treasures gained by wickedness do not profit, but righteousness delivers from death. Keep Your Treasures Without Profit! Robin Aylor Treasures gained by wickedness do not profit... This almost seems to contradict itself... I mean if you gained treasures didn’t you profit? Let’s try to get a handle on what Solomon is saying... First, if we save money by falsifying taxes; if we take advantage of the poor and unlearned; even if we accept a praise under false pretense or that we don’t deserve... we are accepting some kind of treasure by wickedness. The truth is… wickedness is a non-profit organization... And that does not mean we should donate to it. But it is just a bad career choice... we probably have all know evil people who are rich and might disagree with this verse... but wickedness always ends in the worst kind of poverty. So... what are the treasures of wickedness which do not profit? These are the treasures of the world t

A wise son makes a glad father, but a foolish son is a sorrow to his mother. Glad Father R Aylor A truth such as this, is worth repetition A Father will smile, when his children listen His energy, vigor, countenance and eyes Brighten with joy when his children are wise If they love and adore, if they prize Jesus more Than a roll of the dice, a million dollar heist A Swiss Army knife, even more than their life If they stand tall, bowed... humble yet proud Give of their all, if they live out loud If they laugh at the devil as they take up their cross If they greet this worlds passion as rubble and loss When they choose certain death, instead of ceasefire They will go to their grave, having never retired When free will gives in, to election and grace It will put a big smile on their fathers face But if you are selfish and stupid my son If at every blast, you turn and you run If you pay no attention to the

Proverbs 9:4-6 RA Simpleton Me
08/12/2019 Duração: 05minProverbs in 365 Devotions For more go to braggingonjesus.com Proverbs 9:4 “Whoever is simple, let him turn in here!” To him who lacks sense she says, 5 “Come, eat of my bread and drink of the wine I have mixed. 6 Leave your simple ways, and live, and walk in the way of insight.” Simpleton Me R Aylor Throughout the Old Testament we find what are known as "Types" which prefigure Christ in the New Testament. Solomon has made out Wisdom as a character in Proverbs in which Jesus can be inserted within its place quite often with doctrinal integrity. Here are a few: 1. Wisdom calls those who lack sense to leave their simple ways and turn toward her. (Jesus calls sinners to turn away from their sin and toward him. Luke 5:32 I have not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance.”) 2. In our Proverbs text, Wisdom invites us to eat and drink. Jesus invites us to eat and drink. Matthew 5:6 "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied. John 6:35 Jesus sa

Proverbs 9:1-3 RA Family, Fellowship & Road Kill
08/12/2019 Duração: 06minProverbs in 365 Devotions For more go to braggingonjesus.com Proverbs 9:1 Wisdom has built her house; she has hewn her seven pillars. 2 She has slaughtered her beasts; she has mixed her wine; she has also set her table. 3 She has sent out her young women to call from the highest places in the town, Family, Fellowship & Road Kill R Aylor There is nothing like gathering together for food and fellowship to break down walls, establish relationships, binding one another together with a common bond. But; what if you you were invited to a backyard BBQ with steaks, hotdogs and the works thinking the meal was ready and they had not even started the grill? In fact, they had to go get charcoal from the store; then they had to return because they didn't have something else, the table was not set, they were still missing condiments and they served pond water for drinks and the food… Oh my, the food was even worse. Instead of steaks and hotdogs they served BBQ road kill!! Not so with Wisdom. She has fully prepared her

Proverbs 8:12 RA It Really Is All About Who You Know
06/12/2019 Duração: 03minProverbs in 365 Devotions For more go to braggingonjesus.com Proverbs 8:12 “I, wisdom, dwell with prudence, and I find knowledge and discretion. It Really Is All About Who You Know R Aylor Continuing with her resume, Wisdom opens up to give us a background report on herself by telling us who she lives with and even runs around with. You know, we tend to find a way to spend time with those we have the most in common with… at least in relation to those things that mean the most to us. For example, musicians hang out together, basketball players run in their same circles, cyclists ride in packs, and Trekkie's congregate at sci-fi conventions all because of their common interests. That's why Christians from all walks of life and with various incomes and social status meet together weekly for worship and fellowship. They share something in common that's important to them and that bridges every gap that all other shared interests in life cant. If we have an interest… a yearning or desire… if we have a hea

Proverbs 8-10-11 RA Better Than A Booming Economy?
05/12/2019 Duração: 04minProverbs in 365 Devotions For more go to braggingonjesus.com Proverbs 8:10-11 Take my instruction instead of silver, and knowledge rather than choice gold, 11 for wisdom is better than jewels, and all that you may desire cannot compare with her. What's Better Than A Booming Economy? Robin Aylor So Wisdom is continuing to write her resume. She says she is worth more than all you might desire! Have you ever thought about how much wisdom is really worth to you. What do you treasure the most in life? Not sure? It will possibly be easily discovered in what you desire for those individuals you love the most. That person may be yourself or someone else. Consider for example someone you love dearly. Let's say you have a son; and you have the power to give him only one of two life treasure packages: Package number one: great intellect, social status, riches to his hearts desire, a long healthy life... Your son would be successful by all known worldly definitions... and then here's the possible deal breaker, he

Proverbs 11:29 DC Mr Wiseheart & Mr Lacks-sense
05/12/2019 Duração: 02minProverbs in 365 Devotions For more go to braggingonjesus.com Mr. Wiseheart & Mr. Lacks-sense Daniel Castor Once upon a time in the little town of Life-Lessons lived two men, Mr. Wiseheart and Mr. Lacks-sense. The two men lived on the same side of town, in the same neighborhood on the the exact same street. But these two neighbors where as different as different could be. Mr. Wiseheart seemed to live a somewhat boring life. He was always being very carful and cautions with his time, his money and the company he kept. He considered all that he had as a gift from God and he intended to be a good steward of all that he had been given. This was quite annoying to Mr. Lack-Sense. He thought, Why is my neighbor such a stick in the mud. He is always working hard and . Doesn’t he know how to enjoy life. I could teach him a thing or two. Mr. Lack-Sense had a berry different outlook on life. Everything he had was his own. His time, his money, even his his wife and family, all belonged to him and he was going to enj

Proverbs 12:20 RA Two Of Mans Favorite Delights
05/12/2019 Duração: 04minProverbs in 365 Devotions For more go to braggingonjesus.com Proverbs 12:20 Deceit is in the heart of those who devise evil, but those who plan peace have joy. Two Of Mans Favorite Delights Here we see two types of individuals with opposing plans. One plans his way to the top at his job or with his friends by lying his and and double dealing and hoodwinking deceit. The other plans peace… both peace with his God and fellow man. Solomon tells us that joy is in the person planning peace... that part makes sense to me. But then he says deceit is in the heart of the one planning evil. I would have expected him to say misery or sorrow... you know something that is the opposite of joy... but no he says deceit. But after I thought about it, it dawned on me that maybe Solomon is contrasting the two treasures that are associated with the two individuals and their plans… One of the great treasures of the believer who seeks out peace is of course joy. Joy because the impossible has happened and he is accepted

Proverbs 8:9 RA Straightening The Curves
03/12/2019 Duração: 05minProverbs in 365 Devotions For more go to braggingonjesus.com Proverbs 8:9 They are all straight to him who understands, and right to those who find knowledge. Straightening The Curves R Aylor The Dukes of Hazard theme song indicates that they "straighten the curves, and flatten the hills". Truthfully though, we are a people bent on sinning and not straightening what's bent. But in our text we find that everyone who has found knowledge and has understanding can see the truth in all the things that Wisdom says. I think this goes along with what Jesus said in John 7:17 If anyone’s will is to do God’s will, he will know whether the teaching is from God or whether I am speaking on my own authority. As I'm beginning to write this today, a couple buddies and I are heading home to Oklahoma from a wonderful trip to Mountain View Arkansas. I have to ride in the front seat on these winding roads or I will turn colors. Even now I'm a little queazy. Just a few miles back we screeched our tires to a stop as a man wav

Proverbs 8:6 RA 100% Truth

This is godly Wisdom… Wisdom in relationship to her sisters and intimate friends… We’ve mentioned them before in the allegory Solomon has projected. Ladies like Prudence and Insight, Knowledge and Understanding. They support and help guide Wisdom in godliness. If you have ever met Wisdom, you know she will not lead you in making good and proper decisions only 50% of the time, (definitely not!) she will not lead you down the right paths in everyday into forming good relationships and resolutions… to peace and contentment, strength of character and inward joy only part of the time… and she will not be honest and forthright with us 99% of the time; but rather 100%! We can be certain that her words will always be outstanding, accurate and trustworthy to hear. Truth is not

Proverbs 8:5 RA Spiritual Sense
30/11/2019 Duração: 05minProverbs in 365 Devotions For more go to braggingonjesus.com Proverbs 8:5 O simple ones, learn prudence; O fools, learn sense. Spiritual Sense R Aylor In the previous verse 4 Solomon switched from speaking as himself and made Wisdom to be the one speaking in the first person again. So it is actually her who in verse 4 calls out to all men and the children of man. She now begins speaking a specific group those people… the "simple”. … I would say this is someone who needs to learn discernment and wisdom; someone who is currently unequipped to resist the sweet honey dripping words from the forbidden woman ore the forbidden sin… That again is everyone… to some extent… right? all the children of man… And also for background… remember we have already seen Wisdom call out to the simple in Proverbs… And here in chapter 8 She is being straight forward and plain spoken. ”O simple ones, learn prudence; O fools, learn sense.” In the remaining verses of Proverbs 8 Wisdom is going to be giving us her resume… - In

Proverbs 8:4 RA Men & Children Of Man
29/11/2019 Duração: 04minProverbs in 365 Devotions For more go to braggingonjesus.com Proverbs 8:4 “To you, O men, I call, and my cry is to the children of man. Attention Men And Children Of Man R Aylor In Proverbs Solomon has been using "Wisdom" as a person of the female gender and as an allegory to seemingly appeal to his son and to the gender of men to choose Wisdom over her polar opposite, the adulterous or forbidden woman. Here in chapter 8 and particularly this verse Solomon seems to expound on the meaning of the allegory. Notice he is specific in saying Wisdom is calling out not only to men but also the children of men; which of course would be women as well. I think we could see that all along but I thought is was worth mentioning. In the chapters that follow we will see Solomon introduce many truths that Wisdom brings to men and women for application in life, and later he will bring back the character of the forbidden woman. Remember Wisdom not only protects us from her but every forbidden sin. So for the rest of the c

Proverbs 8:2-3 RA Wisdom Shouts Out
29/11/2019 Duração: 06minProverbs in 365 Devotions For more go to braggingonjesus.com Proverbs 8:2 On the heights beside the way, at the crossroads she takes her stand; 3 beside the gates in front of the town, at the entrance of the portals she cries aloud: Wisdom Shouts Out R Aylor In the previous verse (one) Solomon has told his son and us how Wisdom and Understanding both call out. We can actually hear them if we have ears to hear. We learned about Wisdom’s voice first in Proverbs one verses 20 and 21 which says: Wisdom cries aloud in the street, in the markets she raises her voice; 21 at the head of the noisy streets she cries out; at the entrance of the city gates she speaks: If we are truly seeking for wisdom we have no good excuses for not finding her. She is not hiding from us. So in today's verses where and how might we find Wisdom? 1 - “the heights beside the way” Wisdom calls out standing on the elevated grounds on the sides of the road. How might we come to see Wisdom there? There might be many ways… One could be

Proverbs 8:1 RA Can You Hear Me Now?
28/11/2019 Duração: 05minProverbs in 365 Devotions For more go to braggingonjesus.com Proverbs 8:1 Does not wisdom call? Does not understanding raise her voice? Can You Hear Me Now? R Aylor Growing up at times my brother seemed not to hear others especially whenever he was focused on something in deep thought like when watching TV or playing a game. I remember once someone yelling at him loudly saying "dinner is ready" which should have really rocked him… he didn’t flinch but rather stared at the tv in serious concentration. Now, on the other hand my mother Gigi can hardly hear at all. This year she turned 83 and sometimes when she guesses what is being ask of her she answers totally off topic. And that’s ok. Mom still helps teach 5th and 6th graders in Sunday School and thankfully that's when she uses her hearing aid. I love my Mom and brother both sooo much! They love the Lord. I assume though that their reasons for not hearing are at least some of why we don't hear Gods wisdom and truth as he calls out to us spiritual
