  • Episode 203- Star Trek TNG- Schisms & Lifesigns

    06/06/2017 Duração: 01h07min

In this week's ball-abducting episode, Magnus goes back to Star Trek- The Next Generation, first with a look back at season 6 episode Schisms before cracking open a Next Gen comic book story called Lifesigns. What secret riches might these two stories have to offer? What secret link ties them both together? And what makes you think a Trek rube like Magnus would even know? All (or most) (or some) (or none) of these questions and more will be answered! So what are you waiting for? Start listening right now or else the aliens kidnap you too! Due to the avalanche of awesomeness, there's just no time for listener feedback this week. But Magnus is slowly getting caught up so don't be left out! You too can offer your feeble effort at tribute whenever you want! Yes indeed, you humble serfs are always welcome to kiss your benevolent leader's ring. Corrupt DiManzocorp interns are ready, willing, able and eager to accept your bribe to present your meager missives to your wise emperor. The email address to use is trentus

  • Episode 202- Weirdsville (Plus Listener Feedback!)

    30/05/2017 Duração: 01h11min

In this week's ball-resurrecting episode, Magnus switches gears to talk about a movie for a change. Actually, it's been a while since comics have been the subject of discussion so this is all a bigger change of pace than it might first seem. Anyway, so this week the curtain rises on Weirdsville. But Magnus, but Magnus, what's so weird about Weirdsville? Glad you asked! Everything is weird about Weirdsville. Indeed, the town doesn't seem to have a single normal person living in it. Thus the name of the movie, one supposes. After gabbing about Weirdsville for a while, His Excellency shifts gears yet again to meander through some listener feedback! Honestly, how long has it been since the last listener feedback? Too long! So here's some more! Magnus is slowly getting caught up on listener feedback! So don't be left out! You can offer your feeble effort at tribute whenever you want! You humble serfs are always welcome to kiss your benevolent leader's ring. Corrupt DiManzocorp interns are ready, willing, able and

  • Episode 201- Starfleet Has a Lot to Learn from Me- Star Trek TNG- Ensign Ro (Plus Listener Feedback!)

    23/05/2017 Duração: 01h33min

In this week's ball-conscripting episode, Magnus finds himself in a bit of a Star Trek mood. And Ro Laren is kind of hot in that bad girl type of way. So why not shoot the bull about the Next Gen episode Ensign Ro? What worked about this show? What was kind of a fail? Wouldn't answering those questions here defeat the purpose of listening to this episode? Still, this Next Gen episode is significant for adding some much-need dissent in the ranks. Seriously, how many Next Gen episodes feature a guest star that literally everybody on the Enterprise openly hates? Very few. But Ensign Ro is one of them. Due to the blitzkrieg of badassitude this week, unfortunately there's just no time for listener feedback this week. But don't cry about it, some is coming in the future! So dry your eyes! Use the time wisely! This would be an opportune time to send in any feedback you may have as the vault could get totally cleared out of feedback in the relatively near future. So get to writing! In the meantime, though, don't let

May the fourth. This is Star Wars Day? Srsly?

  • Episode 198- Magnus Talks About Smallville- Season 05 Part 03- A Heart Beats Only So Many Times

    02/05/2017 Duração: 01h34min

In this week's ball-mourning episode, His Excellency continues Magnus Talks About Smallville, the Smallville fifth season retrospective. In this week's adventure, the episodes Lexmas, Fanatic, Lockdown and Reckoning all come under the microscope. On top of all that, there's discussion aplenty about the secret superpower that Clark has only in Smallville but no other iteration of Superman (including the comics, where he expressly *DOES NOT* have this ability) and characters started getting positioned for the build up to the fifth season finale. On top of all that, Magnus talks about some personal events from late 2005, early 2006 since the moratorium on personal stuff is up now. So all in all, lots of fun is had! In true click-bait fashion, "you won't believe where Magnus moved to at the start of 2006. No, really, THE ANSWER WILL FREAKING SHOCK YOU!" Due to the blitzkrieg of badassitude this week, unfortunately there's just no time for listener feedback this week. But don't cry about it, some is coming in the

  • Episode 197- Where's the Weird Stuff?- A Preview of Coming Attractions

    25/04/2017 Duração: 01h30s

What happened to the weird stuff? Isn't there supposed to be a discussion of weird stuff this week? Well, yes. Yes there was. But life happened. So Honeywell and I couldn't convene to talk about weird oddities of strangeness. So in this week's ball-previewing episode, Magnus runs his mouth about a bunch of upcoming stuff and also shoots the bull about some podcasting administrivia. Jokes are told (by Magnus), laughs are shared (by Magnus) and a good time is had by all (or at least by Magnus). Sorry folks! Sometimes you just can't fight the scheduling gremlins. But just wait until you hear episode 200!

  • Episode 196- Imagine the Fire- The Dark Knight Rises retrospective (with Professor Alan!)

    18/04/2017 Duração: 02h59min

In this week's ball-crippling episode, the epic megaseries of mega epicness about the Chris Nolan Batman trilogy and the first three Harry Potter movies concludes! In this week's adventure, Magnus once again teams up with Professor Alan from the Relatively Geek network to talk about The Dark Knight Rises. The conversation takes some interesting turns, not least because one of the participants had not seen TDKRises since it was out in theaters. In true click-bait fashion, "the results will surprise, amaze and astonish you". All this while Magnus and the good professor don't talk about Nolan's probable political views as implied by his entire Batman trilogy. Not too much anyway. So what more do you need? Start listening now or else Bane will steal your private jet and crash this plane with no survivors. Due to the blitzkrieg of badassitude this week, unfortunately there's just no time for listener feedback this week. But don't cry about it, some is coming in the future! So dry your eyes! Use the time wisely! Th

  • Episode 195- Mischief Managed- A Prisoner of Azkaban retrospective (with Rebecca Johnson!)

    11/04/2017 Duração: 02h24min

Normally I'd write a smarmy, self-indulgent intro here. But it's Monday and I'm freaking exhausted. You'll live. See you all next week!

  • Episode 194- A Better Class of Criminal- The Dark Knight retrospective (with Professor Alan!)

    04/04/2017 Duração: 03h05min

This audience deserves a better class of podcaster. So, in the form of Professor Alan, Magnus will give it to them. In this week's ball-bombing episode, Magnus continues a mega megaseries of epic meganess. Can you dig it? You see, ladies and gentlemen, for probably too long the majority of Trentus Magnus Punches Reality's episodes revolved around comics. The reason for that is because Magnus loves comics. Which means you should love comics too. No, really. You should. It will be better for you if you do. So a few weeks ago His Excellency embarked upon retrospectives of two different movie franchises. Or an entire movie trilogy in one case and the beginnings of a different franchise in another case. Up this week is The Dark Knight. This is the big one! Professor Alan is once again joining in for the fun. And needless to say, there's a lot of yammering about the Dark Knight and what it all *REALLY* means. A tiny little bit of discussion is even dedicated to just how right-wing the movie and the director might a

  • Episode 193- I Am Lord Voldemort- A Chamber of Secrets retrospective (with Rebecca Johnson!)

    28/03/2017 Duração: 01h28min

In this week's ball-polyjuicing episode, Magnus continues a mega epicseries epic of epic meganess. And stuff. You see, boys and girls, for maybe too long the majority of Trentus Magnus Punches Reality's episodes have revolved around comics. Because Magnus loves comics. Which means you should love comics too if you know what's good for you. So beginning two weeks ago (and continuing this week) His Excellency has taken some time to look back at two different movie franchises. Or an entire movie franchise in one case and the beginnings of a different franchise in another case. Up this week is Harry Potter & the Chamber of Secrets. Rebecca Johnson has once again joined in for the festive festivies and considerable time is spent gabbing about all things Chamber of Secrets. What worked, what didn't, what could've been done better, what was awesome and all that. In all fairness, there are some minor audio problems going on here. It's not horrible but it is a bit noticeable. A thousand pardons. So what more do yo

  • Episode 192- The Means to Fight Injustice- A Batman Begins retrospective (with Professor Alan!)

    21/03/2017 Duração: 02h53min

In this week's ball-beginning episode, Magnus continues a megaseries epic of epic meganess. For a long time, the focus of Trentus Magnus Punches Reality has been narrowed to comic books. Because everybody love comics, right? But there should be more to geekdom than just comics. Magnus sure thinks so! And as your leader, what Magnus believes should be your only concern. So beginning last week and continuing this week is the aforementioned epic megaseries of epic meganess or something in which Magnus looks back at two separate movie franchises. Or an entire movie franchise in one case and the beginnings of a different franchise in another case. Up next this week is Batman Begins. Professor Alan of the Relatively Geeky Network is on-hand for the festivities as well in order to keep His Excellency on task. So in case you fear another instance of Magnus going into a foaming frenzy over something, fear not! The good professor is here to keep everything mature and erudite. So what more do you need? Start listening n

  • Episode 191- I Can't Be A Wizard- A Sorcerer's Stone retrospective (with Rebecca Johnson!)

    14/03/2017 Duração: 01h35min

In this week's ball-vanishing episode, Magnus launches an epic megaseries of mega epicness. For too long (far too long, some would say), Magnus has narrowed his focus down on comics. And we all love comics, it's true. But isn't there more to geekdom than just comics? Or shouldn't there be? Magnus sure thinks so! And what Magnus believes is pretty much the definition of what is. So beginning this week is the aforementioned epic megaseries of epic meganess or something wherein Magnus takes a look back at two separate movie franchises. Or an entire movie franchise in one case and the beginnings of a different franchise in another case. But anywho, up first this week is Harry Potter & the Sorceror's Stone. Rebecca Johnson was kind enough to join in for the fun this week to take a fond reappraisal of the first of the two Chris Columbus Harry Potter flicks. What worked? What didn't? And what makes Harry so freaking interesting anyway? Rebecca and His Excellency also take a few moments to explain the humble begi

  • Episode 190- Magnus Talks About Smallville- Season 05 Part 02- No Such Thing As Vampires

    07/03/2017 Duração: 01h36min

In this week's ball-biting episode, Magnus continues the Smallville season 05 retrospective. Going under the microscope this week are the episodes Thirst, Exposed, Splinter and Solitude. This is a pivotal part of the Smallville retrospective as Magnus not only talks about the changes that were happening in the Superman fan community during this time (eg, the fall of 2005) but he also talks about the episode many people consider to be the very worst of Smallville's entire run. Yes, they consider it to be even worse than the entire dreaded fourth season. Of perhaps greater importance though is the lesson Clark learns in one of these episodes. Depending on your definition of the word "victory", Clark was defeated in this episode. But he learns that sometimes there are degrees of victory and he has to be ready to accept them. A very important and, ahem, revealing episode of Smallville. All that, and Clark discovers how Krypton was *REALLY* destroyed. So what more do you need? Start listening now or Lana Lang will

  • Episode 189- Weird Stuff- He Will Not Divide Us- Bigly Edition (with Chris Honeywell!)

    28/02/2017 Duração: 02h09min

In this week's ball-bigly episode, Magnus is rejoined by Chris Honeywell to kick off Weird Stuff, the replacement for the Big Book Report as the 7th episode feature. In this week's adventure, Honeywell and Magnus talk about Shia the Beef's He Will Not Divide Us performance art project. At least, that was the plan. What ended up actually happening was that Honeywell and Magnus gave it last rites because the project was cancelled less than a week after recording. Yeah, apparently it's back now in the desert. But it's gone, let's be realistic. But for one brief, shining, bigly moment, He Will Not Divide Us was a cascade of trolling, counter-trolling, idiotic chants, racist chants, incoherent chants and more web-cam crap-show insanity than you could ever hope to shake a stick at. In the course of conversation, Magnus and Honeywell analyze the finer points of performance art and offer relevant critiques to the Beef. All this and Honeywell recounts some of his adventures from college. So what more do you need? Unle

  • Episode 187- Musical Magnus #02- I've Got to Find the River- R.E.M.- Automatic for the People

    14/02/2017 Duração: 03h08min

In this week's ball-jamming episode, continues an idea from last year. This is the second edition of Musical Magnus, an irregular feature of Trentus Magnus Punches Reality wherein His Excellency talks not about comics, not above movies and not about TV shows. If you're completely stupid and can't figure out what the subject matter of Musical Magnus might be... well, you probably shouldn't operate heavy farm machinery. But, in brief, Musical Magnus represents an opportunity to salute fine albums. And in this week's ball-jamming episode, Magnus is once again joined by host of the Pop Culture Affidavit podcast, lead blogger of the Pop Culture Affidavit blog, all-around nice guy, eccentric millionaire and patron of the arts Mr. Tom Panarese! This week the guys listen to R.E.M.'s 'Automatic for the People' album. Actually, they listened to the album prior to recording. But you get the idea. The $64,000 Question: What did Magnus and Tom think of this album? Well, a better question is would they bother recording for

  • Episode 186- Crimes of Violence- Spectre #01

    07/02/2017 Duração: 01h03min

In this week's ball-haunting episode, because Professor Alan said it was okay, Magnus finally reads and talks about a comic that's been on the ol' wishlist for a long time now. No kidding, boys and girls, the John Ostrander/Tom Mandrake Spectre series has been on His Excellency's list of subjects since day one. But it was never the right time to talk about it before. But now it's the right time! Magnus takes a long, leisurely look at The Spectre #01 from December 1992 and it's intense! Did he love it? Hate it? Completely forget it? There's only one way to find out for sure! Because, um, saying so here would defeat the entire purpose of recording a podcast about this comic book in the first place, wouldn't it? Due to the barrage of badassery this week, unfortunately there's just no time for listener feedback this week. But don't cry about it because there was some not long ago and there'll be more in the future! Dry your eyes! Feedback will be addressed in just a few weeks. As a matter of fact, several upcomin
