Episode 185- Toy Biz v Kenner- Dawn of Collecting or A Portrait of the Podcaster As A Young Geek
31/01/2017 Duração: 01h26minIn this week's ball-collecting episode, Magnus waxes nostalgic about collecting toys in the late 80's and early 90's. Specifically, collecting Batman action figures. The process of doing so unfolds many memories, some blissful and nostalgic. And others are still the source of foaming outrage over a given toy line's crappy craptacular crapness. Full of crap! The Toy Biz line Batman '89 figures get compared to Kenner's subsequent Dark Knight Collection. Which one comes out on top? Of those two, which did Magnus love more? The only way to find out for sure is to listen to this episode! Or you could compare one line to the other, which should pretty much say it all. But hey, where's the fun in that, right? Right? Am I right? Where's the fun in that, right? Due to the barrage of badassery this week, unfortunately there's just no time for listener feedback this week. But don't cry about it because there was some not long ago and there'll be more in the future! Dry your eyes! Feedback will be addressed in just a few

Episode 184- Tribbles, Final Frontiers & Suspects (Plus Listener Feedback!)
24/01/2017 Duração: 01h45minIn this week's ball-treking episode, Magnus talks about one comic book, one movie and one TV show. Yes, the show about comics, movies and TV shows talks about all three this week. And they're all related to Star Trek! First on the docket is the Trouble with Tribbles, an episode that is both popular and divisive. Which is no mean feat. Following that is discussion concerning Star Trek V: The Final Frontier, a movie far more divisive than it is popular. And yet, not without its charm. To top the whole thing off, Magnus switches gears to talk about Star Trek: The Next Generation #76, a story titled "Suspect". Considering His Excellency's overall lack of familiarity with Star Trek comics, this issue could've gone either way. What did Magnus think of all three of these items? Well, explaining that here would tend to defeat the entire purpose of listening to this episode, would it not? Also in this episode, for the first time since the last time, Magnus also shines a long overdue spotlight on all the feedback for w

Episode 183- Our Lives Are Not Ours- Star Wars Tales #01 (Plus Coming Attractions!)
17/01/2017 Duração: 01h29minI'm in a sort of cranky mood right now so here's the new episode of Trentus Magnus Punches Reality with no BS description.

Episode 182- Magnus Talks About Smallville- Season 05 Part 01- A New Journey is About to Begin
10/01/2017 Duração: 01h45minIn this week's ball-journeying episode, Magnus kicks off the Smallville season 05 retrospective. Arrival, Mortal, Hidden and Aqua are on the docket this week as the fifth season gets underway. As is frequently the case with these retrospectives, character arcs are dissected, storylines are analyzed and there's more than enough conjecture to keep the Smallville True Believer happy. So what more do you need? Start listening now or face Lana's wrath! For those of you determined to ruin the Internet by sharing click-bait on Facebook, "Magnus shares a conspiracy theory about Virgil Swann AND IT'S INSANE!" Due to the deluge of ass-kickery this week, unfortunately there just wasn't time for listener feedback this week. But don't cry about it because there's more coming in the future! Patience! Feedback will be addressed in just a few weeks. As a matter of fact, several upcoming episodes will feature feedback sections. This would be an opportune time to send in any feedback you may have as the vault could get totally

Episode 181- Big Book- Leftovers (with Chris Honeywell & Scott Ryfun!)
03/01/2017 Duração: 03h56minIn this week's climactic episode, Magnus bids a fond farewell to the Big Book Report! In the first segment, Magnus once again joins forces with Chris Honeywell to talk about a couple of stories from previous Big Books (none of which come from the Urban Legends volume) which simply could not be addressed in previous Big Book Reports... many of which are violent, bloody, shady or a Top 40 radio hit. In the second segment, Magnus and Honeywell join forces with Scott Ryfun of Dinner 4 Geeks fame so that Ryfun can give the Big Book of Urban Legends his full attention. Bigly! The reason for this is explained as the episode unfolds. Laughter is shared, stories are told and Honeywell shows up late! It's all here for the listening in this, the final edition of the Big Book Report! Seriously, ladies and gentlemen, clocking in at nearly four hours this episode is a real doozy! As a disclaimer, the sound quality in the second segment is perhaps not as solid as it might've been but there's a good explanation for that so l

Episode 180- Hole In My Schedule- The Shadow Strikes! #03
27/12/2016 Duração: 01h06minIn this week's ball-shadowing episode, Magnus once again fills the time with The Shadow Strikes. If it sounds like His Excellency was desperate to find something to talk about this week because It's All About Image couldn't be finished off properly, that would be because His Excellency was desperate to find something to talk about this week because It's All About Image couldn't be finished off properly. And as it happens, Magnus is a fan of the Shadow in general and The Shadow Strikes in particular, and has been for quite some time now. So what better way to get an episode out for this week than talking about The Shadow Strikes #03? The answer to that is there *IS NO BETTER WAY*. And if you think there is, you're welcome to keep your incorrect opinion to yourself. For those of you determined to soil the Internet by sharing click-bait, "Margot thought she was safe with Brother Gregor but then THIS happened!" Due to the deluge of ass-kickery this week, unfortunately there just wasn't time for listener feedback

Episode 179- Merry Christmas! A Batman Adventures Christmas Special Retrospective!
20/12/2016 Duração: 01h37minIn this week's ball-caroling episode, 'tis the season for Magnus to celebrate Christmas by taking a long (very long!) look back at The Batman Adventures Christmas Special. This classic has been a holiday favorite of His Excellency's since practically the day it was released, boys and girls. There are more stories in this single issue than you could hope to shake a stick at but that doesn't stop Magnus from trying as he works his way from one cover to the other in fairly economical time. For those of you determined to soil the Internet by sharing click-bait, "You won't believe what Magnus was doing the first time he read this comic!" Due to the deluge of ass-kickery this week, unfortunately there just wasn't time for listener feedback this week. But don't cry about it because there's more coming in the future! Patience! The vast backlog of feedback will be addressed in due time. Fear not! In the meantime, though, don't let the lack of feedback this time get you down! You can still offer your feeble effort at t

Episode 178- I'm Talking About Sharking (with Chris Tyler)
13/12/2016 Duração: 01h45minIn this week's ball-attacking episode, Magnus talks about a film classic. Yes indeedy, today's subject has been on His Excellency's mind literally since the day Trentus Magnus Punches Reality first started. If it sounds like Magnus will be talking about Jaws today, that is because Magnus will in fact be talking about Jaws today. But this isn't a solo episode! No, no! This time around, Magnus browbeat... um, that is, Magnus persuaded journeyman podcaster and all around nice guy Chris Tyler to join in on the fun. Seriously, boys and girls, this film gets dissected every which way and a wonderful time is had by all. For those of you determined to soil the Internet by sharing click-bait, "Magnus said *WHAT* about Ellen Brodie?!" Due to the deluge of ass-kickery this week, unfortunately there just wasn't time for listener feedback this week. But don't cry about it because there's more coming in the future! Patience! The vast backlog of feedback will be addressed in due time. Fear not! In the meantime, though, don'

Episode 177- It's All About Image Part #03- The Supreme Story of the Year- Supreme #41
06/12/2016 Duração: 01h37minIn this week's ball-losing episode, Magnus concludes It's All About Image, a megaseries about few Image titles from the 1990's. In perhaps better terms, it's an opportunity to maybe change your opinion of a handful of Image comics. Or at least it has the potential. Possibly. The curtain rises on Supreme #41 this week, which marked the beginning of Alan Moore's run on the title. What's good? What's bad? What's typical freaking Alan Moore? Quite a lot of all three, in fact. But no matter what, there's only one way to find out for sure! (pssst, that's your cue to download the show) For those of you determined to soil the Internet by sharing click-bait, "Magnus starts the episode by talking about *WHAT* movie?!" There's also a long shoutout to Gene "Gene the Podcasting Machine" Hendricks in the cold open. So lots of fun all around, yes? Due to the deluge of ass-kickery this week, unfortunately there just wasn't time for listener feedback this week. But don't cry about it because there's more coming in the future!

Episode 176- It's All About Image Part #02- Life in the Big City- Astro City
29/11/2016 Duração: 02h05minIn this week's ball-hacking episode, Magnus continues the It's All About Image megaseries, the purpose of which is to take a look back at a few Image titles from the 1990's. Think of it as an opportunity to maybe change your opinion of Image in the 90's. Maybe. But then again, maybe not. Continuing the megaseries this week is the oh-riginal Astro City miniseries from 1995. Honestly now, what's up with Astro City? It gets a lot of love but is it really everything people say? Have the ensuing twenty years been kind to Astro City? Or, like so many other things, is Astro City an overrated hackjob? There's only one way to find out for sure! For those of you determined to soil the Internet by sharing click-bait, "Magnus sat down to read Astro City but then *THIS* happened!" Due to the deluge of ass-kickery this week, unfortunately there just wasn't time for listener feedback this week. But don't cry about it because there's more coming in the future! Patience! Episode 175- It's All About Image Part #01- Power Manifestation- Gen13
22/11/2016 Duração: 01h12minIn this week's ball-manifesting episode, Magnus launches a brand new megaseries... the exact duration of which is still up for grabs due to some behind the scenes drama upon which we need not dwell. The shtick of this megaseries is actually rather simple. By far, one of the most controversial events of the 1990's was the advent of Image Comics. And in the ensuing years it would be safe to say that history has not been kind to 1990's-era Image Comics. In fact, the prevailing sentiment is those comics suck. But do they? So the purpose of this series is to take a look back at a few Image titles from that era and reach a different conclusion. Maybe. Or maybe not. Kicking off the series is the oh-riginal Gen 13 miniseries from 1994, which Tom Panarese assures us was the most important year of the 90's. In any case, how does Gen 13 far in retrospect? Have the ensuing decades been kind to this miniseries? Or, like so many other comics, is Gen 13 a dated, cringe-inducing anachronism better left forgotten? The answer

Episode 174- Magnus Talks About Smallville- Dreaded Season 04 Part 05- The Year When Smallville Sucked Ends
15/11/2016 Duração: 02h07minIn this week's ball-splitting episode, Magnus concludes the retrospective of Smallville's dreaded fourth season. At the whipping post this week are the episodes Onyx, Spirit, Blank, Ageless, Forever and Commencement. "But Magnus, but Magnus," you say. "That's six episodes? Why so many?" Well, you see, the answer is rather simple. His Excellency spent all of episode #142 talking about Crusade and nothing else. That threw off the numbering. Plus, Magnus didn't want to spend six episodes talking about the dreaded fourth season. It was time to just tear the band-aid off and be done with it, you know? All in all, it would be fair to say that these episodes are a substantial improvement over what's come in the last bunch of dreaded season 4 shows... in the sense that the worst is behind us. Even so, back in episode #150 your wise leader said "Oddly enough, Lex's attraction to women who remind him of his mom isn't the creepiest sexual impulse that is implied during this season." Well, here's where that little hint g

Episode 173- The Ginger Man vs. the Fat Man- A Heavy Discussion About Kevin Smith
08/11/2016 Duração: 01h13minIn this week's ball-joke-making episodes, Magnus... well, this is a 7th episode so technically Magnus should be joining forces with Chris Honeywell. But that proved impossible. So... other arrangements had to be made. Guys, we need to talk about Kevin Smith. Yes, he's funny. Yes, he seems like a nice guy. Yes, he's been something of a geek ambassador to Hollywood. But he has, shall we say, other problems that need to get straightened out. Or at least publicly-acknowledged. Thus this episode is intended to be a springboard for your own ideas about Kevin Smith's work... and perhaps Kevin Smith as a media figure as well. Nobody expects you to blindly agree with what's said here; simply giving the matter some thought will probably go a long way. Due to the deluge of ass-kickery this week, unfortunately there just wasn't time for listener feedback this week. But don't cry about it because there's more coming in the future! Patience! The vast backlog of feedback will be addressed in due time. Fear not! Still, it's

Episode 172- The High Price Paid For Proud Illusions- A Superman Returns Retrospective Ten'ish Years Later
01/11/2016 Duração: 01h56minIn this week's ball-rescuing episode, the Unfinished Business megaseries is over! So this week, Magnus reflects soberly on ten'ish years of Superman Returns? What few things worked? What was less successful? Does the movie hold up after ten years? The answer won't surprise you. It's a lengthy meditation on growing old, ruminating on life decisions and wondering what this is all really about anyway. For those determined to ruin the Internet for everyone else by perpetuating click-bait on Facebook, "Magnus thought he was doing a retrospective about Superman Returns but then *THIS* happened!" In spite of the deluge of ass-kickery in this week's episode, Magnus solicited feed-forward regarding Superman Returns from the Facebook group. And you guys didn't disappoint either! Even though there's no feedback, as such, a splendid time was still had by all. In the meantime, you can still offer your feeble effort at praise and tribute to your Ducé! You humble serfs are always welcome to kiss your benevolent leade

Episode 171- Unfinished Business 05- My Past Is My Own- The Shadow Strikes #02
25/10/2016 Duração: 01h19minUnfinished Business continues! In short, Magnus originally had something else planned for this episode. But, through no fault of anybody's, that ended up not working out so well. So His Excellency, ever one step ahead of you lowly miscreants, moved an episode originally scheduled for release in 2017 over to today! (Yes, things really are planned out that far ahead.) In short, today's show is all about The Shadow Strikes #2, written (with astute attention to detail) by Gerard Jones and pencilled (with great expertise) by Eduardo Barreto. There's probably other stuff that could get mentioned here but it's been a long day, Magnus is worn out and this is all you're getting. Deal with it.

Episode 170- Unfinished Business 04- Familiar to Millions- Justice Society of America #01-#03
18/10/2016 Duração: 01h13minThe Unfinished Business megaseries continues! This week it's all about Justice Society of America, by Len Strazewski and Mike Parobeck! It'll blast your balls off! Download it! Usually I'd write more to hype this thing up but it's been a long day and I'm tired. You'll deal.

Episode 169- Unfinished Business 03- Out of Harm's Way- Young Justice #05-#06
11/10/2016 Duração: 59minIn this week's ball-harming episode, Magnus hits the middle of the Unfinished Business series by revisiting his discussion from years and years (and years!) ago related to Young Justice. The "Young Justice" under discussion here is the Peter David/Todd Nauck oh-riginal; none of that animated stuff going on here, boys and girls. Maybe some other time. Maybe. Eh. Maybe... Anyway, it's late right now so we'll make this short and sweet. What's awesome about these comics? Nearly everything. What's crappy about these comics? Practically nothing! Not to worry though, all will be revealed. For those determined to ruin the Internet for everyone else by perpetuating click-bait on Facebook, "Young Justice comics aren't the only bit of 90's nostalgia that get revisited in this episode. Within the first forty seconds of the show, *THIS* happened!" So what more do you need? Start listening right now! Otherwise, Harm (or worse yet, Harm's dad) will be very disappointed! Due to the deluge of ass-kickery this week, unfortunat

Episode 168- Unfinished Business 02- Eat It, Grandpa- Legion of Superheroes #06-#08
04/10/2016 Duração: 01h19minIn this week's ball-rebelling episode, Magnus continues the Unfinished Business series by resuming his discussion from years and years (and years!) ago related to Threeboot version of the Legion of Superheroes. "Eat It Grandpa", the self-same continuation of the self-same Legion title, is the end product of Magnus vaping like a mad man and perusing Legion #06-#08. What worked? What didn't work? All gets discussed here. But frankly, there's not much about this comic that didn't work. Mark Waid and Barry Kitson were on their A-game through this whole series. A lot of time, effort, blood, sweat and definitely some tears went into making the Threebot, for one brief, shining moment, the greatest Legion comic book there ever was. Until things changed, that is. And why did things change? Well, that's a bit of a rabbit-hole... which His Excellency eventually falls down... For those determined to ruin the Internet for everyone else by perpetuating click-bait on Facebook, "You won't believe what Magnus says about the T

Episode 167- Unfinished Business 01- The Shroud of the Dark Side- Star Wars- Attack of the Clones
27/09/2016 Duração: 59minStarting this week, Magnus launches the Unfinished Business megaseries! Honestly, how many times have your heard your emperor wrap up an episode with words to the effect of "I don't know when but at some point I'll come back to this"? But invariably next week's episode is about some other subject. It's almost enough to make you think His Excellency has ADD or something. Well, this megaseries is where all that starts getting put right. In this week's ball-cloning episode, Magnus talks about another Star Wars prequel. The last time this subject came up was back in episode #99 which was dedicated to the Phantom Menace. This week, that subject gets revisited as His Excellency turns his gaze to Attack of the Clones. How good is it? How bad is it? And can it be just one or the other? Much ink and many words have beeen spilled over the Star Wars prequels in general and Attack of the Clones in particular. But rest assured, you've never heard anybody talk about Attack of the Clones the way Magnus does. Stones are over

Episode 166- Magnus Talks About Smallville- The Dreaded Season 04 Part 04- This Dreaded Season Bottoms Out
20/09/2016 Duração: 01h22minIn this week's ball-paralyzing episode, Magnus begins the build up to the end of Smallville's deplorable, dreaded fourth season retrospective by talking about Recruit, Krypto, Sacred and Lucy. Those of you looking for some sort of comfort or good news in all the pain, suffering, misery and torment that is the dreaded fourth season are out of luck. Mostly. Honestly, this is a pretty difficult episode to hype up because there's so little positive to say about this stretch of episodes. In the plus column though, anybody who thinks His Excellency is a blind devotee to all things Smallville will quickly see the error of their ways after listening to this episode. There's a lot to be said for unbiased objectivity, right? Still, there are some interesting character tidbits going on here. You have to dig deep to find them sometimes. But they're there. And in this batch of episodes, they're a Godsend! So what more do you need? Start listening before Isobel the Witch pays you a visit and bores you to death with vapid s
