A couple characters spring into action with some quick-witted and unexpected counters of their own, but they trigger a dire consequence for one character in particular. We start off on our 2nd life for this adventure, after a player couldn't resist doing something just to see what would happen. Also, this time around seems to be a bit more of a puzzle that takes a little bit of trial and error to solve. Here's a different kind of role playing game from a familiar game designer, Jared A. Sorenson. This game plays like an old style, text-based computer game, so the cast will have to work together to beat the story before they run out of lives, or chances to save the game. The story concludes with a shootout in a swanky hotel penthouse. As the damage is dealt from both sides, will the y make it out with Santa's bag of goods? One character thinks the task is easy and tries to keep his cool... however, the calm and collected intentions are merely that... intentions. "No more carrying bodies." So the group waits for Jerr to regain consciousness. Before waking up Jerr has a vision and seems to make a big connection with his elemental, opening the floodgates to new found strength. We're sure this will come back to bite the characters in the batt later in the season though. Having completed the rescue ahead of the GM's schedule, it is revealed to the party that they are indeed on Santa's naughty list. But there still is a job to be done. And it turns out that there is nothing "nice" about it as a showdown with Tommy's Billy Club and Billy's Tommy Gun ensues. Sneaking across the war torn city in the middle of the night, what could go wrong? Well, despite some pretty epic dice rolls, everything. And we see one player character on the brink of death. Rival mobster families, and late night warehouse showdowns make for a classic 1920's gangster story. In this episode the players throw Aaron some curveballs, both with the ruleset and also in the story, by getting a bit ahead of themselves. It looks like disaster awaits for at least one character. It's time for the first ever, Bone Throwers Theater Christmas Special. Aaron takes the reins and drives the sleigh through the cold winter night for a new game for the podcast, Capers. In this episode, we polish off character creation, set the scene in the 1920s for this Christmas story, and get our first look at the rule set involving a deck of cards rather than dice. We dive pretty deep in this commentary episode, unpacking a lot of key story points already in play during the debut session of Season 4. We talk character growth, inspirations from the writings of Jim Butcher, and how we find story telling very fulfilling. This game has been listed as an inspiration for the show since the beginning, and we finally got around to playing it, so we had a lot of fun talking about it in this commentary episode. Although Jordan reveals the amount of homework he did for this story, as usual, the player's choices didn't always line up to bring out those details. But it was quite interesting hearing the depth of the story shared after the fact. Navigating through war zones in the city is hard enough, but having their faces plastered on posters as the faces of the uprising, puts a whole new level of danger on the situation.
