House of The Dead Chuck Cramer and Geoff Camphire- Marta On The Move Podcast Episode 38
27/09/2015House of the Dead in Pittsburgh's Lawrenceville is a cult fans ultimate destination for all things zombie. Owned by friends Chuck Cramer and Stu Neft (aka Disco Stu), this is the place to stop into if you are a zombie fan. I love zombie movies (Return of the Living Dead being one of my favorites), so chatting with a local zombie book author and one of the owners of HOTD seemed the perfect lead up to Zombie Fest in Pittsburgh and Halloween! Pittsburgh is one of, if not THE zombie capital of the world. Starting with George Romero's Night of the Living Dead , it sparked other movies that lead to cult classics like Dawn of the Dead, which in my opinion lead to a more mainstream audience, ever hear of a little show called The Walking Dead? Pittsburgh is the grounds that bred two of the men responsible for leading us up to where we are today. Friend's Tom Savini and George Romero together shaped future movies to come. (Which you can all find in HOTD!) Join me on this episode as we talk about all things zom

Levity-Floating (Sensory Deprivation)- Marta On The Move Podcast Episode 36
30/08/2015So many thoughts, so much to do, not enough time, and so much stress. We work hard and play hard every day, our brains never taking a break. Stress one of the largest factors of deteriorating health. The silent killer they call it, and I don't know about you, but that scares me to no end. We all need a break in our chaotic world to be alone with our thoughts. Many don't realize the outside sounds that we hear even when we think we are having a "quiet" moment. It isn't until you truly take away all noise that you start listening to what is important. I took this journey recently, and I wanted to share it. I step into Levity in Squirrel Hill. The owner David greets me and takes me on a tour of the place him and his wife Amanda created. I am instantly relaxed in the space. Decorated by Studio Am, it gives a person the sense of calm with no clutter and no distractions. Honestly, I want my office to look exactly like it. I sit with David, (who may be the nicest and down to earth man I may have ever met

Homewood Cemetery Historical Tour- Marta On The Move Podcast Episode 35
16/08/2015My husband and I meet Jennie Benford Director of Programming at the Homewood Cemetery on a beautiful summer day. We greet each other kindly, and proceed to walk the grounds of the cemetery. Jennie Benford is extremely passionate and knowledgeable about the history of the cemetery. As we walk she can't wait to tell us about how it got it's name, it's layout, and the various architecture forms of the tombstones. As my husband and I walked along with her, we learned so many glimpses of Pittsburgh's past. Join us on our stroll to highlight pieces from each of three tours that the Homewood Cemetery Historical Tours offer. Their Founders Day Celebration is this coming Saturday the 22nd. Take a tour around the world and discover the rich history Pittsburgh's past residents. I recently hosted a photo submission for this podcast. Barre Bars and Red Star Kombucha - Marta On The Move Podcast Episode 34
10/08/2015Marta On The Move chills with Aaron Ingley, and Julia Erickson, Ballet dancers and founders of Barre,- A Real Food Bar and Naomi Auth co-owner and brewer at Red Star Kombucha. My husband Phil and I have, over the years, tried make everything in terms of food and drink ourselves. Whether it be beer, wine, mead, food. You name it, we have tried it. We also have been trying to take the approach of cleaner eating. Kombucha has live cultures that help as probiotics, and Barre Bars are the closest thing to what I make at home to boost energy. Unfortunately, we do not have all the time on our hands to make everything, so it is nice to know there are products locally that are just as good and clean as making them yourself. I wanted to bring these two companies together to chat about what it is like opening a small business in Pittsburgh, and how they came about creating success from what they made in their kitchens. This was a super fun, and engaging group, just four people doing there thing in Pittsburgh, an

Marta On The Move Interview KDKA- Secret Vacations
20/07/2015 Duração: 10minSECRET VACATIONS- THE NEXT BIG THING Secret Vacations: What they are, and why you should take one. I have a confession to make, I am a planner. Party planning, and traveling planning is always something I have been very good at achieving the greatest results. It comes from my researching nature. For me, the planning aspect is half of the fun, half of the journey to whatever experience you are seeking. This, however has leaked out over the years, and resulted in myself being chosen as Maid of honor 4 times, Best Man once, the go to person for planning any party, or any trip. Travel is a big, big thing for me, and the research portion of traveling is the best part of the trip in my eyes, but not everyone feels that way. There has never been a trip I could just show up and relax. Tell me how much I owe you, and when to be there, that has never happened to me. When will someone take up the helm and let me play the passenger. It just so happens, a very close friend of mine, is also an “A type” personali

Frick Art and Historical Society- Marta On The Move Podcast Episode 31
13/07/2015 Duração: 25minWhen I was young, the holidays always revolved around a certain outing, a trip to "Clayton". Growing up in Pittsburgh, I feel a lot of people have that same experience. Touring the grounds and mansion surrounded by glittering lights and music to catch a piece of history. Now that I am older, I started taking trips there more frequently than just the yearly snow covered journey. Through traveling to other cities, I have gained a new appreciation for The Frick. "Clayton" was the house built on a 5 acre plot for Henry Clay Frick and his family. They resided there from 1882 to 1905. They then moved to New York, but kept their home in Pittsburgh. Phil and I recently visited their New York home, and even though the art collection is quite amazing, we found ourselves finding a new respect and love for "Clayton" in Pittsburgh. The main reason, being is that it is private, and intimate, showing you a life almost stopped in time. All their original belongings are present, not something that was placed in the

The Odd, Mysterious, and Fascinating History of Pittsburgh- Marta On The Move Podcast Episode 32
06/07/2015 Duração: 37minJohn Schalcosky is a native of Pittsburgh, who had a curious nature about some things he had seen in our town and wanted to delve deeper into where they came from. Almost a year later, he is now working hand in hand with Carnegie Museums, and various institutions around town, giving speeches, and is on his way to creating a book about the collections of histories he has found. I wanted to bring him on as a regular (look for the Halloween podcast!), and hear some of the strange history that we have here in Pittsburgh. I was blown away by some of the stories he tells on this podcast, and you will be too. Truly one of my favorite episodes. I can't wait to have him on again to hear what else he has dug up! Whiskey Rebellion with Professor Buzzkill- Marta On The Move Episode 30
22/06/2015 Duração: 28minAbout a month ago, Jim Beam and USBG partnered up and sponsored an event to allow bartenders, and folks in Pittsburgh be more aware of the history around them. They rented a large bus and took us all on a tour of the Whiskey Rebellion. I had never known the history of this area, and the role it played in stabilizing the economy, and making some of the best whiskey in the world. Professor Buzzkill has a podcast of his own, and is part of our family up at Epicast TV. He debunks myths about history, so I thought this would be the perfect episode for him to sit in and chat about the Whiskey Rebellion, and if there were any stories, or myths that may have shifted over the years. Be sure to check out the Whiskey Rebellion Festival July 9-12 this year. They have bands, food, fun, history, and of course.... whiskey. Stay tuned for a video cast with Bobby "G" Gleason, Guiness Book of World Record holder for making 253 drinks in under 60 minutes! He tells us more about how to make drinks at home, and the hist

Dinner Lab- Marta On The Move Podcast Episode 27
18/05/2015Dinner Lab is sweeping the U.S and hitting up major cities as a social dining experiment that pairs up chefs, with adventurous diners, looking for a new great experience in community and food. It is all very mysterious which adds to the appeal. People interested in attending a meal must first become a member of Dinner Lab for a yearly fee. They are then given a list of meals that will be available to purchase. You will not know the locations of the meals until the day before the event. The locations are, also, never held in a restaurant. They usually are scouted for in advance by Dinner Lab, and could include, an abandoned church, a mill, office warehouse or any other interesting locales. It makes for a spontaneous and magical experience for the diners. Tables are set up community style, and you get the chance to mingle with others, while enjoying cocktails, and dinner set in an area you would not otherwise find yourself in. I really love the concept, and I hope they stick around town. Mario Rodrigu
