Hey family, last week we started a brand-new series called “Me at Work.” The point of the series to recognize that God has a purpose for whatever work we do in our lives. Over the next few weeks we’ll be talking about some important questions that we need to answer as Christ-followers. Like: What’s the purpose of work? What does work look like when we have bosses who are asking us to compromise our values? How do I work in an environment where I feel mistreated? So I’m hoping to see you for the rest of this series, I think it’s going to be a life-changing experience. In either circumstance, we have an opportunity to find great meaning in what we do. Hey family, The last time Jesus spoke to his disciples (in Matthew 28:19-20), he instructed them to go out and share the good news with other people. This is something everyone can do, not just pastors or teachers. People need to hear our testimony of how Christ has changed our lives--it will give them hope for the future. Join us this Sunday! Did you know that the Book of Psalms is a collection of hymns, poems, and prayers? Many were used by the Israelites in their worship services. There are psalms expressing praise, sadness, anger, gratitude, and many other emotions. We can use the very same psalms to express our own feelings today. The psalms are the basis for our current sermon series, Summer in the Psalms. The quiet days of summer are a great time to meditate on what God has done in our lives and what he is planning for the future. I love God, but I really messed up this time. Hey family, a healthy congregation learns how to deal with sin and not to suppress or hide it. So the question is, how do you deal with sin in your life if you love God? Because even when that’s the case, the fact is that we *will* sin, we will fall short, and so there needs to be a healthy, faith-building way to address our shame, our guilt, our sin, after we’ve blown it. The psalm we’ll be studying this week deals with this in the most powerful way. The writer of Psalm 19 asks questions and declares truths because of who God is. This is what we’ll talk about on Sunday as we continue our series, “Summer in the Psalms.” In every Sunday service, God is constructing our souls. Don’t come to Sunday service!?! Hey Family, as you know, many people have gotten into the habit of thinking that watching a person preach on a screen is sufficient for our spiritual nourishment. Because I love you, I want to say some important things that we all need to hear. I want you to know that growing toward spiritual maturity is NOT about getting on a screen and listening to some genius explain what he learned while reading God’s word. Rather, here at Next Step Community Church, we believe that the Sunday service should be a reflection of the Christian life. Therefore, we’ve created various components that go into that: silence, singing, serving and being served, scripture reading, communion, testifying and confession, prayer and applying God’s word. In every Sunday service, God is constructing our souls. I’m going to be speaking to you about that throughout the summer. Please come this Sunday as we grow together. Hey Family, we're in the last week of our series about identifying the idols of our hearts and the ways in which we can address them. Tomorrow we're going to talk about how God does his healing work through our repentance and faith.This is an important message, because we all need to be reminded that sometimes when we look in the mirror we don't see who God says we are. We need to be reminded that God is doing a great work in us. Subject line: Willpower doesn’t work HF, for many of us, wanting to change is not the problem. Whether losing the weight, getting into the right relationship or out of the wrong one, spending too much, or just feeling depressed, change is hard. But it's especially hard when all we have to work with is willpower. In our new series, we're going to be uncovering some hidden motivations in our hearts that prevent us from being the happy, free people that we and God desire us to be.

Why do I bother going to church? Hey family, there’s a common misunderstanding that the reason we go to church is to listen to the guy standing up front. He teaches us God’s word, we sing some songs, and then we’re good to go until next week. But the real reason for coming to church is to spend time with God himself, because he takes that time to construct our souls. In every service, we have times of learning about scripture, times of singing, confession, and testimony. Times of eating with one another, serving and being served. Church attendance leads to a more peaceful life. I want us to get into the habit of experiencing God’s presence in this way. Hey family, there are so many people who say to themselves, “I’ll just skip this one service,” and then they stop attending church for a couple of weeks and even a couple of years. This Sunday is a great opportunity to come back and experience the beauty of being together and growing together with the body of Christ.
