Film Fervor: Episode 97 - Age of Consequences
12/04/2016 Duração: 33minToday, film maker Jared Scott returns to the show to talk about his latest film Age of Consequences, which premieres at the Hot Docs Canadian international documentary film festival in 2016, a in-depth look at climate change from the perspective of US military veterans who see it as a clear and present danger to our way of life. Climate change is one of those subjects that has a lot of political charge to it. On one hand, you have the scientists who are showing concrete and tangible results that are both backed up and quantified by years of research. On the other hand you've got the deniers and the profit engine that's saying there is no real evidence of climate change and that we, the human race, have no impact on the climate or the world around us. What are the consequences of our inaction? As the American nuclear strategist Albert Wohlstetter wrote during the cold war, “We must contemplate some extremely unpleasant possibilities, just because we want to avoid them.” The Hurt Locker meets

Film Fervor: Episode 96 - The Bomb
11/04/2016 Duração: 25minToday, I had the pleasure of speaking with filmmaker Smriti Keshari about her bold new documentary The Bomb. The bomb places the viewer in the middle of the story of nuclear weapons - the most dangerous machines ever built - from the Trinity Test in 1945 to the current state of nuclear weapons in 2016. It will explore the culture surrounding nuclear weapons, the fascination they inspire and the perverse appeal they still exert. It will convey the impossibility of controlling this technology. The bomb is about the immense power of nuclear weapons, their dark allure and ingenious technology, the computer systems invented to control them, the missiles and bombers built to carry them, the practice of denial and secrecy that perpetuates them, the societal and cultural influence of them, and the profound death wish at the very heart of them. The film will have it's world premiere at Tribeca this year (2016) April 23rd and 24th and, if you want to see it, you need to get you

02/04/2016 Duração: 39minToday, I’m joined by Dan Fisher, the Senior Director of Acquisitions at Gravitas Ventures, and he’s here today to talk about film distribution in the independent world. I'm going to put up some of the questions I asked Dan and I hope that you all listen in and see what he had to say. I'm also going to be speaking to more distributors to get ad much industry advice I can for my readers and listeners. If you have any film distributor you want me to reach out to and ask further questions to, please leave comments below and let me know. So, why don’t start out with telling us a little about yourself and what you do at Gravitas Ventures. As a distributor, do you still factor in films that have been released online to something like YouTube or Vimeo, or are those off the table? When you’re looking to acquire a film, what are the major factors in your decision to pursue it? Do film festivals play as pivotal of a role in landing a distribution deal as the majority believes? I’ve read t

Film Fervor: Episode 93 - Kyle Hester
01/04/2016 Duração: 18minToday, I spoke with Kyle Hester for the Zombie with a Shotgun feature film and his role in the project. Kyle and I often get off on a tangent about acting, the business, and the brand of a filmmaker, so you'll have to excuse that, but we did talk about the Zombie with a Shotgun project and I have to say I'm extremely excited to see this thing come to "life" (see what I did there?). Zombie with a Shotgun is going to be that zombie film where all the rules we know about zombie films go right out the window. In this Zombie film, the zombie will be the hero and it will have others (zombies) to help out the war against the humans. The story follows Aaron who isn't sure if he is infected with the zombie virus or some other infection. He takes this journey with his girlfriend Rachel and his shotgun where they both find out the deep secrets among the zombie virus and their love life. This project will have what Zombie and Horror fans been waiting for... You can check out the series that spawned it all on Vimeo (https

Along with Liane, British a James J Bryhan lends his voice as the amazing Dr. Normal Lightfoot, a shaman and protector of the land and people of Clarington. Film Fervor: Episode 84 - Logan Cross
07/03/2016 Duração: 43minLogan Cross is the owner of Cross the Line Films and is the creative force behind the new powerhouse comic franchise Nightshadow. Nightshadow is a Comic Book Style feature film that is currently in pre-production, introducing an all new Superhero Comic Universe. This excites me in a multitude of ways. First, it's an independently produced film which we all know I love but second, and more importantly, it's set in an entirely new and unique comic universe. We are going to be seeing some great new heroes, villains, governments, and secret agencies in this universe and it's going to be pretty amazing. Logan and I discussed a great deal about the project and what they are trying to accomplish with it. Not only is his team at Cross The line building a new superhero franchise, they are doing it with a female lead who is not just a carbon copy of a male lead. This is very important. Men and women are different in just about every way. How they react to situations, what their thoughts are, where their motivati

Film Fervor: Episode 82 - Beth Martin
22/11/2015 Duração: 19minToday, I spoke with Beth Martin and Mike McClenahan, the creators behind the amazing web series The Nevermore Chronicles about their project and vision for the future. I am absolutely in love with Nevermore and everything they do. They make bite-sized web episodes in the style of The Twilight Zone that have short, meaningful messages about the people in the episodes and they are absolutely worth binge-watching to catch up. I want to see this show not only funded more, but supported by as many people who can support it because it's really what new media is all about. It's an absolutely great concept and one that I am very proud to have been able to speak about. In each episode, our hostess, Alexandria Nevermore (Sara Maraffino), from her mystical Nevermore Theatre, takes us on an exciting, creepy and often dark, adventure. Our stories can be any genre and tone, in fact, a recent episode was done in black and white in the Noir style. Please, check them out! http://www.thenevermorechronicles.com/
