  • 291: Movie Chefs

    15/04/2026 Duração: 01h04min

Please take a seat at our table. We trust you are hungry for both food and films because for this show both are on the menu. It’s a combination worthy of its own special Michelin star, a feast for the eyes. Yet have you ever wondered if it looks too easy on screen to be part of a kitchen preparing high quality food? It’s been a topic of conversation at At The Flicks for quite some time. So, for this episode, after much debate, we have selected for tasty offerings and ask the question, do they reflect reality? Obviously, we are not best judged to answer that question as the nearest Jeff and Graham get to fine dining is reaching the front of the queue at MacDonalds. To help in that regard, we have brought in someone with insider knowledge. Say hello to Ian Jones (remember that surname, it’s quite important in the show), a high-quality chef who will guide us through our four selections and tell us what’s right and wrong about each one. Just what are the four films I hear you cry, well, they are these - **B

  • 290: Oscars Review

    27/03/2026 Duração: 40min

Just before Hollywood rolls up the red carpet for another year, the At The Flicks team steal it away for their review of the awards show. It’s like a Danny Ocean moment without any of the glamour, although Jeff and Graham are around the same age as the stars of those movies (if wider and shorter). But like all great heist movies, they bring in a reluctant member of the team. Yes, it’s Phil, brought in for his correct guessing skills as he worked out most of these awards in advance (and he tells us without cheating). Settle in for some team hijinks. Of course, if you’ve seen the recent Academy Awards ceremony, you will know that One Battle After Another was the big winner. Three awards, but only two rants from Jeff. Why only two, well, he has something positive to say about one of its award wins (hint – it’s not Sean Penn’s win). Just to be clear, the team don’t discuss all the awards, they just focus on: - Best Supporting Actress - Best Supporting Actor - Best Actress - Best Actor - Best Director - B

  • 289: Jeff and Graham 2025 Roundup

    11/03/2026 Duração: 39min

And so to our final show looking back at the best of 2025 (at least in our opinion). Yes, for this At The Flicks show, Graham and Jeff go head to head to reveal to you their favourite top five films of last year (at least we released it before the Oscars, although there is no chance of any of Jeff’s picks ever getting nominated for Best Film – they are all in English). Once again, no trailers or clues as to what is about to be revealed.  Please check out the show and tell us what you think. We look forward to catching up with you At The Flicks, or at least what little of the year of 2026 is left! Bye for now.

  • 288: Niall’s 2025 Roundup ```

    09/03/2026 Duração: 01h01min

We return with another of our roundups of last year.  For this episode we have a very entertaining discussion about the films of 2025 with Niall Browne, the creator of Movies In Focus.  Yes, Graham and Jeff are chatting with the man on the film pulse to find out what was worth seeing last year.  The beauty of this conversation is, Niall goes beyond the norm (in both his film watching and his excellent interviews which you can find on moviesinfocus.com).  Once again, we don’t have any links or film titles to go with these show notes.  To find out Niall’s top five countdown you will have to check out the show.  Our next show will be our final look back at 2025, the one where Graham and Jeff go head to head on their respective film lists. Until then, see you At The Flicks.

  • 287: Phil’s 2025 Roundup

    31/01/2026 Duração: 42min

Continuing our review of 2025, we talk to Phil The Bear about his film choices of the year. I guess you are not too surprised to hear that Jeff and Phil got into something of a heated discussion about some of Phil’s choices. Regular listeners will probably guess which film makers cause this upset between the two contributors. However, what may surprise you is that there is one film in Phil’s top five which was also in Tessa’s (see previous show). Graham and Jeff have now promised faithfully to watch this movie. After discussing / arguing about Phil’s top five, the team then discussed what they are looking forward to seeing in 2026. Amazingly, there much agreement between Phil and Jeff – mainly because Marvel wasn’t mentioned! As before, we will give no clues as to what Phil’s top choices are – we will leave that for you to discover for yourselves. Please let us know what you think – are you team Phil or team Jeff? Another 2025 roundup from a top film critic is coming shortly. Until then, see yo

  • 284: Future Bond with Niall

    15/12/2025 Duração: 51min

Compliments of the season to you from the At The Flicks crew. If you are like us, then you will be watching at least one James Bond film this Christmas.  Goldfinger, You Only Live Twice and Live And Let Die are choices very popular with this team.  All classics. However, with James Bond somewhat cold at present and Amazon seemingly muddling through with the franchise, we have to ask the question – is the age of James Bond as we know it, over? And that is the subject of the At The Flicks Christmas lecture for this year.  It’s a weighty subject, so we have to call on an expert to help address this question.  Bond fan Niall Browne from Movies In Focus joins Jeff and Graham to discuss how did we get here and Amazon’s current handling of the James Bond legacy (clue, it’s not off to a good start). Of course, a screenwriter and director have been allocated to a new Bond project.  We talk about both and assess if they are the right people for the job or is Amazon “front loading” with talent over ideas?
