Jami Dulaney MD Wellness Podcast: Continuous Glucose Monitors
17/04/2026 Duração: 29minWelcome! and Thank you for listening. This episode is about early data of my personal continous glucose monitor. These sensors can be purchased without a prescription and are used to monitor the glucose in the interstitial fluid. Translated there is a mild delay from the blood to the cell fluids where the glucose is monitored and then uploaded to an App on your smartphone. Diabetes and glucose intolerance are the biggest risk factors for cardiovascular disease. Often, people assume that their if glucose is normal fasting, then they are ok. The problem is that insulin resistence occurs much sooner and still carries the risk of chronic insulin elevations. Lifestyle changes can be used to prevent frank diabetes or help one achieve remission. Today I will share with you some of my readings. Jami Dulaney MD Wellness Podcast Episode 458: Croom Fool and Doubt
10/04/2026 Duração: 31minWelcome! and Thank you for listening. This episode will highlight my latest ultra at Croom's Fool run where I completed 35 miles/50K. The original goal was 50 miles but the day went a little different. Nevertheless, I finished feeling well and continue to learn about low carbohydrate fueling and ultra distance events. I will also share a story of doubt that I observed. The story we tell ourselves can seem benign and even humble, but it is sometimes setting us up for failure. We have 70,000 thoughts per day and about 80% are negative according to research. 95% are repetitive. That means we keep telling ourselves negative things quite often. That would easily be labeled as "bad parenting" today but it seems perfectly ok to subject ourselves to it. I see similar things in the medical community. Providers are not willing to see challenging information as learning or keep an open mind to change. The "practice of medicine" is just that. Practice and life long learning. We are not inferior or wrong if

Jami Dulaney MD Wellness Podcast Episode 457: The Quilt Story
27/03/2026 Duração: 37minWelcome! and Thank you for listening. Today's episode is my story of making a quit for my granddaughter , and how it was not in my comfort zone. I learned to quilt from watching my grandmother. Unfortunately, that was 50 plus years ago. She made quilts for her family by hand with fabric from old clothes. She allowed me to quilt with her using black thread so it could be easily seen and removed when I went home at night. I remember the care and hard work that went into making the quilts and how they warm and cozy they felt on a cold night. Quilting is piecing together fabrics from various sources. The fabrics are cut into patterns and sewn together. They are then attached to a batting layer that provides depth and warmth. The third layer is a backing. The quilting process is actually the stitching together of the three layers in various patterns depending on the complexity. You can sew by hand or with a machine or a combination. I did mine with a standard sewing machine. I have no training, just

Jami Dulaney MD Plant Based Podcast: Episode 546: Vision over Position
20/03/2026 Duração: 29minWelcome! and Thank you for listening. Cardiovascular risk factors include hypertension, weight, hyperlipidemia, smoking and a sedentary lifestyle. These are things you can change without a calcium score or genetic testing. They benefit everyone at every age. The problem is that they often require change and insight. That change requires vision and belief over current circumstances, excuses or position. It is March and anything is possible if you believe and have vision. Let me help you focus on your vision of health instead of your current position. Email me at jami@doctordulaney.com Thank you for listening. Jami Dulaney MD Wellness Podcast Episode 545: Long Play Experiment with Low Carb and Ketones
11/03/2026 Duração: 38minWelcome! and Thank you for listening. Don't fall off your exercise ball but we are going to talk low carb and keto! Last week I completed the Long Play 33 with 35 miles- bonus miles as Andy, the race director, would say. Based on a recently published study on nutrition during endurance events, I decided to decrease my glucose intake and add Ketone IQ shots to the mix. I have a history of bonking in the later parts of a race. Sometimes, it is more like the early part. My stomach no longer accepts gels, I feel sluggish, and have assumed it was my mental attitude and the need for more fuel. I figured I was dehydrated leading to a decrease in blood to the gut and inability to digest my intake resulting muscle glycogen depletion. As soon as I started taking gels, I became dependent on them. Once, I could not tolerate them, I was headed for low energy and the need to walk or quit. My new hypothesis is that it is my brain's demand for fuel and my bloodstream dip in glucose that causes the bonk. Wild swi

Jami Dulaney MD Plant Based Wellness Podcast Episode 544: Jeff Galloway
27/02/2026 Duração: 48minWelcome! and Thank you for listening. It is with sorrow that I pay tribute to Jeff Galloway with a replay of a 2020 episode that we did together. Jeff passed away this week from complication of a hemorrhagic stroke. Some people may say that running didn't prolong Jeff Galloway's life or even that running may have made him die earlier. I would say that Jeff had a wonderful lifespan lifting others up both spiritually and health-wise through his lessons on the run-walk method of distance running. A life well lived and shared. I believe the longevity and medical community get caught up more with time than meaning or quality. We will all be better if we can lift others up and be a blessing to others for the time we have on this earth. Rest in peace my fellow runner. Thank you for listening. Jami Dulaney MD Plant Based Wellness Podcast Episode 542: Lp(a) and Cardiac Risk-You Have More Control than you Think
07/02/2026 Duração: 34minWelcome! and Thank you for listening. Lp(a) is a genetic marker associated with increased cardiovascular events. A positive family history is also associated with increase risk. But how much risk and over what time period. Families share the same cultures, living environment and often food choices but not always. Genes don't act alone. They need the right stimulus or environment to become activated. There is no one that knows your story better than you. Yet, one cannot predict their own future with any degree of certainty. The story always unfolds a little different. To think a physician can predict ones future is also a bit of a long shot. Heart disease is the number one killer in America with cancer being number two. The odds are pretty high that one of those illnesses may cross your door. The question is which and when. I believe we are in control of our destiny more than our genes or family history. How heart disease or other illnesses affect our lives is guided by lifestyle choices and b

Jami Dulaney MD Plant Based Wellness Podcast Episode 541: You Are CEO of Your Health
31/01/2026 Duração: 34minWelcome! and Thank you for listening. Do this, no, do that. Coffee is bad. Coffee is good. Do these three things. Take these medications or else. It is no wonder that people just turn a blind ear and do nothing. When you finally have hypertension, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cancer, or dementia, the treatments are aimed only at the symptoms instead of the root cause. When it comes to pain, people may think that is not such a bad thing because we do have pain medications that work well for short periods of time then cause havoc with side effects, tolerances and addiction. The best plan of action is to stay healthy through sunlight, diet, and exercise. I am going to address each of these today and probably every podcast because the list is endless on how you can keep yourself healthy. In today's episode: Hormone replacement for women: stay away, I'll tell you why Congestive heart failure: it is not a death sentence and does not have to be treated with a pharmacy of expensive medications. 23/01/2026 Duração: 36minWelcome! and Thank you for listening. Long Haul Ultra marathon is a 100 mile race at Colt Creek State Park in Florida. It consists of 6 loops of 16.8 miles. The runner comes back to the start at each of the loop were there is an open aid station or individual crew access. Out on the course, there are 3 other times where there are aid stations for snacks and fluids. The first loop went well but things deteriorated. What happens when the best laid plans fail? This is the story of Long Haul. Why do we have to learn the same lessons with a little twist over and over? Diet and nutrition all sound so simple on paper. Eat a plant based diet and all will be well. That works until the questions arise and you find yourself confused with less than perfect options. One way out is to give up the fight, the other is to learn and grow from mistakes I will share my frustrations, disappointment and growth from this experience. I will also leave you with some unknowns. Thanks for listening, For information abou

Jami Dulaney MD Plant Based+ Wellness Podcast: Episode 359: Longevity meet Reality
09/01/2026 Duração: 32minWelcome! and Thank you for listening. Happy, Healthy New Year. How much does it cost to live forever. There are people out there claiming they can do it for $4 a day all the way to 2 million dollars per year. But the cost could be way more than dollars. Some of these folks limit their human interaction to the point of isolation. Just being plant based is a ticket to the outliers club and can be quite limiting. Perhaps there is a compromise. I believe that compromise is health span. What can you do to stay out of the medical establishment but not compromise being in longevity jail? I believe it costs very little. You can go a long way obtaining your food from the grocery store, getting sunlight daily, and exercising in a way to keep strong and cardio fit without fancy equipment, tests or supplements. The big question is what are you willing to commit to in 2026. If you would like to shrink your medicine cabinet, waste line and supplement bill, check out our website at doctordulaney.com Email me

Jami Dulaney MD Plant Based Wellness Podcast: Episode 357 : Daytona 50 Mile Ultra and Breaking Tasks Into Manageable Pieces
18/12/2025 Duração: 41minWelcome! and Thank you for listening. The Daytona 50 mile race is in the books. It was my first road ultramarathon, and I continue to learn a little something at each race. I believe the learning points can be applied to any new task or long term goal. 1. Break a goal down into small parts. This seems obvious but the trick is staying in the small part and not looking into the daunting future. 2. Have a strategy for each segment before the segment begins and follow the plan. Variables come up, there is always the unknown, but a strategy is a must for a baseline. 3. What is your time frame? Can you stick to it? Have you ever started a trip without a time plan? The progress is not always what you want. 4. Stiffness is a real concern with sitting during an ultramarathon. However, you can get started again. 5. Nutrition is best handled without relying on an aid station for solid foods for the most part. Its is not a buffet. 6. Salty britches is a must for blister prevention. I hope you enjoy my story.

Jami Dulaney MD Plant Based Wellness Podcast Episode 536: Born to Move and Does DHA really matter?
05/12/2025 Duração: 36minWelcome! and Thank you for listening. Move it or loose it for sure but how should be move and how often. I made some observations at this year's Turkey trot that I think you might find helpful. Vitamin D is not just about bones but your immune system, your heart, and many other things. The sun is the best source because there are so many other mechanisms in the body fueled by the sun's photons. However, getting adequate vitamin D is a must. What about DHA. Can we just rely on alpha linolenic acid from plants? The question becomes live or thrive? I believe we can do better with excellent DHA levels and I will discuss this during the podcast. Jami Dulaney MD Plant Based Wellness Podcast Episode 535 : Thanksgiving with My Friends
26/11/2025 Duração: 28minWelcome! and Thank you for listening. I am joined by my favorite little people today to talk all things Thanksgiving. I give you a little recap of my latest learning experience during the Colt 45k this past weekend. I am grateful for all of you who continue to tune into the podcast after all these years. It has been a pleasure to learn and share information with those interested in being as healthy as possible. It is easy to loose sight of the simple gifts around us. It was a very special moment to have my grandchildren on my lap during this podcast. A simple conversation unscripted after a simple dinner of bean soup and cornbread. Colt Creek 45K was also a simple gift of running in the woods in central Florida. Even though our leaves don't change, there were beautiful purple and yellow wild flowers among fields of grass, pines and oaks. I continue to learn with each race and increase my tool box for trouble shooting the unexpected. Sometimes, in the moment, we are not sure what the next step might

Jami Dulaney MD Plant Based Wellness Podcast Episode 534: DHA Importance and High Expectations
17/11/2025 Duração: 29minWelcome! and Thank you for listening. There is shocking news with this podcast that I hope will allow all of us to become healthier. This episode I will discuss coaching and being coached. We are all always learning. During our time in formal education situations, it is assumed that the teacher knows best. Do as they say, get a good grade, and proceed in achieving your goals. We trust that they will provide accurate information to the best of their abilities. It is expected that one completes the assignments to the best of their abilities. Grades are assigned for performance. But we learned in a stepwise fashion. Simple addition before calculus. Our exceptions were based on that progression. Some of us developed a need to please or get good grades. The reward being good grades, good job, and self esteem. As adults, we are still leaning at our own pace. However, the information is infinite and abundant. Only the individual knows the level of their current knowledge. The coach has a singular

Jami Dulaney MD Plant Based Wellness Podcast Episode 532: Coldwater Creek 50 K Recap
28/10/2025 Duração: 44minWelcome and Thank you for listening. This podcast is mainly about the Coldwater Creek 50k/ 33.2 mile trail race in Anniston Alabama. Good news: I finished Better news: I finished with a bang and before the cutoff. It was close. If you have never stopped by Anniston Alabama, you should. The people are wonderful and it is a beautiful little town with lots of trails for mountain biking, running and hiking. There are also lots of rocks. I have been plant based nearly 25 years. I eat fruits and vegetable as close to their natural state as possible most of the time. I do not sell supplement and believe the best way to get nutrients is from the food. We do need a B12 supplement. I have spoken about the importance of Vitamin D from the sun but the potential need for supplementation. That said eating a nutrient complete plant based diet takes some focus, and recently I have discovered some deficiencies that could easily be missed. My practice aims at helping individuals achieve optimal health and wellness.

Jami Dulaney MD Plant Based Wellness Podcast Episode 530: Don't Know, or Do Know That is the Question
03/10/2025 Duração: 38minWelcome! and Thank you for listening. How much do we need to worry about body scans and tests? It seems our bodies are on autopilot until our forties. Then there comes the recommended screenings and testing. Our we doomed to our genetics so that we need to start screening to detect the inevitable at the earliest stage possible? What happens when we find an abnormality? Intuitively, it seems we should put things to rest before they become a problem like getting new tires. Some people think once you break the imaginary body seal, the problems all come rushing out. Today I will discuss when to be worried and when to maintain. Overall, it is better to use your body than keep it on the couch and wonder if it will work when you need it. Eat clean plant based food and move outside is a much better choice than looking for imperfections that need to be eliminated. Enjoy the podcast. Thanks for listening.
