  • I Came to Love You Too Late By St. Augustine

    22/07/2015 Duração: 08min

In this verse, St. Augustine touches me deeply with his insight that he was ‘out of my body and mind’ while he looked for the Great Love, for God. And all the while it was right there inside of him. As someone who works with a lot of people who walk through their lives with some condition, whether it is something of the body, or the emotions, or mind, I find this to be the most potent medicine. To be guided to turn back to ourselves. To come home to the body and the Self, the wisdom, the healer that resides right here within us.

  • The Heat of Midnight Tears by Mirabai

    22/07/2015 Duração: 06min

Listen, my friend, this road is the heart opening,
Kissing his feet, resistance broken, tears all night.   If we could reach the Lord through immersion in water, I would have asked to be born a fish in this life. If we could reach Him through nothing but berries and wild nuts, Then surely the saints would have been monkeys when they came from the womb! If we could reach him by munching lettuce and dry leaves, Then the goats would surely go to the Holy One before us!   If the worship of stone statues could bring us all the way, I would have adored a granite mountain years ago.     Mirabai says: The heat of midnight tears will bring you to God.

  • How shall I begin my song?

    06/07/2015 Duração: 05min

How shall I begin my song
In the blue night that is settling?

In the great night my heart will go out,
Toward me the darkness comes rattling.
In the great night my heart will go out.

Brown owls come here in the blue evening,
They are hooting about,
They are shaking their wings and hooting.

Black Butte is far.
Below it I had my dawn.
I could see the daylight
coming back for me.

The morning star is up.
I cross the mountains
into the light of the sea.

(translated by Frances Densmore)   Owl Woman (b. 1880) was a healer in the Papago tribe and lived near San Xavier, just south of Tucson. Her medicine songs were reportedly given to her by spirits from the dead.

  • Forgetful One, Get Up! - By Lalla

    26/04/2015 Duração: 05min

    Forgetful one, get up!
It's dawn, time to start searching.

Open your wings and lift.
Give like the blacksmith
even breath to the bellows.

Tend the fire that changes
the shape of metal.

Alchemical work begins at dawn,
as you walk out to meet the Friend.
