Keira and Bettina first met at Columbia's Indigenous Studies Summer Program in New York, and then three of us met at the UN's Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues this May. Bettina, native Guarani from Paraguay, and Keira, American genuinely interested in indigenous issues, are very good friends. David came to Yemen for 4 months and eventually stayed for 3 years. Sacrificing precious time that he could spend building his career, he stayed there to learn about life outside America. And he has never regretted it. He shared with us his insights on how people in Yemen see foreigners, do women there really suffer from lack of rights and opportunities, and even how he managed to secretly dating Yemeny girl.
