Learning from the past has two profound effects on the Christian: 1. It leads us to obedience and holiness. (Psalm 78 & 105) 2. It leads us to praise and worship. (Psalm 26) But what happens when the things that have occurred in your life don’t easily lead to these things? What happens when life leads to lament? There is proper lament, and there is improper lament. There is godly sorrow, and there is worldly sorrow. (2 Cor. 7:10) In lament, the unbeliever’s eyes are fixed on the cause of the problem, but the believer’s eyes are fixed on the solution to the problem. Jesus showed us that we can express our laments & be honest with God while submitting to Him. In our times of lament, may we be like Jesus: honest about our feelings & focused on the Father. We shouldn’t fix our eyes on the cause of the problem, but we shouldn’t fix them on ourselves either. 2 Chronicles 20:12, “‘O our God, will you not execute judgment on them? For we are powerless against this
