John is building a case for the divinity of Jesus. - Jesus’ water baptism testified to the truth that He is truly God’s Son. - The blood testified to the truth that Jesus is God in the flesh. The Father’s testimony concerning the Son is that Jesus is really God in the flesh. So no one can say that they believe in God but deny Jesus is His Son. John says that if you believe the truth about Jesus being God’s Son, then you have eternal life. Only He who is eternal can give you what is eternal. What God has given to believers is a gift within a gift. His gift is His Son, and His Son gives the gift of eternal life. --Christ’s life gives life.
