Concern has emerged that figures documenting a rise in domestic abuse incidents in Clare are just the tip of the iceberg. Justice Minister Helen McEntee has revealed the number of domestic abuse incidents in the Clare/Tipperary Garda Division more than tripled over the past decade, from 719 in 2014 to 2,423 in 2023. The figures, compiled from the results of a search of the Garda PULSE system last May, also show there were 607 such incidents recorded in the first quarter of this year alone. Clare Aontú General Election Candidate June Dillon believes many more incidents go unreported and she insists the provision of adequate services as well as the promotion of societal change needs to be prioritised by Government. Clare Haven, meanwhile, has recorded an 86% increase in those seeking refuge over the past seven years and a 182% increase in the number of those availing of non-refuge supports such as legal support, mental health support or counselling services.
