All The Difference

The kingdom is comprised of Jews – and Gentiles – who accept Christ's invitation & covering. This is accomplished via both election and human response. In the present form of the kingdom, it involves all peoples who will trust Jesus. Those who will not are judged.

Jesus, who chooses to call His followers "friends," teaches us to love as we are loved. In fact, His entire point is that we can't do so apart from His grace. Our righteousness is filthy rags. We cannot enter the righteous kingdom, much less lives as good neighbors in it, without the empowering help of God.

The Pharisees have an understandable concern about Jesus' dealings with sinner: since god hates sin and punishes sinners (both biblical facts), how could Jesus be true Deity if He consorts with the lost? The problem is that they added to and warped the OT to develop a God who hated sinners and loved only the righteous. Jesus calls His followers to instead walk in newness of life.
