Good Shepherd Community Church - Sermon Series

Jesus not only walks on the waters, but each wave must submit to His authority. This is the Lord we follow, one who submits nature to His will and works to soften our hearts to Himself.    

We see how much power and authority Jesus has by how He is able to heal death and disease. But have we given Him authority over our lives? We must be willing to engage when Jesus meets us. Accept His agenda and timeline. And trust His perfect timing. Then we will have handed authority over to Him.    

In the fall, we taught through the first four chapters in a series called “The Servant King in a Selfish World.” We saw that Jesus our King came to serve and bring us Good News! He now calls us to join Him as servants who share His News! During the months of January and February, we will be teaching through chapters 5-8 in a series called “The Servant King with Authority.” The reason we can trust the Good News of Jesus is because He has authority over all things - including demons, tragedy, nature, antagonists, the open-minded, and life itself. Let’s all learn together as a church family to trust the authority of our King in all the ups and downs of life!

The #1 battle in our lives is the battle to secure enough time in His presence with an open Bible and a tender heart…eager and willing to hear and follow His voice.  Every other battle in our lives is dependent upon the outcome of this battle.

When considering how God would save the world, none would have thought He’d pick a young virgin girl to be the vessel that delivered our Savior. But He did! And through that delivery, His astounding message of hope and grace would come. Now, 2000 years later, we respond to that message with a simple faith.

As members of God’s family, we are invited into the family mission - overcoming the world by the glory of Jesus.

We stand before God as if we were Christ, because Christ stood before God as if He were us. And that is why we're all welcome at the Thanks-Giving table of the Lord.

Serving others is a primary way to show Jesus’ love. But serving doesn’t just help other people, it also meets our deepest needs of the soul. Jesus is all about transforming us as we serve others.

This week we are kicking off a new series called “New Family, New Identity.” This is a series about “discipleship.” Discipleship is the stated goal of Jesus and His mission in Matthew 28.

Jesus is ALWAYS the best at describing the nature of God. Today we hear from the mouth of Jesus that God is ALWAYS at work, ALWAYS working deeper than we are aware of, and is ALWAYS present and available to us regardless of season.

The whole body of Christ equipped and working is what makes the body grow! We are all gifted to serve each other with the gifts God has given us as we grow together.

Though Jesus is consistently resisted and opposed, He never stops offering His grace to the world. All authority and power are His, yet He continually calls us into His joy and calling.

Something is tragically wrong with our world. Even the best things are ultimately broken and disappointing. We have a craving inside of us for true and lasting happiness. A craving for love, beauty, accomplishment, adventure and pleasure. But in the immortal words of the great philosopher Bono “We still haven’t found what we’re looking for.” Only Jesus Christ, the Son of God can satisfy what we were made for. The GOSPEL is His. "The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God". – Mark 1:1

Today we jump into a brand new series on the book of MARK. We see right away that see that the Gospel of our Servant King must be proclaimed, prepared, and presented for all.

Greatness is not defined by what we accomplish. It is defined by serving others. We explore Jesus’ paradigm for leadership and how it wears an apron, not a crown.

Biblical Leadership=Servant Leadership. We are blessed to sit down with Randy Alcorn and begin our new series with what true leadership looks like in Christ’s Church.

We see throughout scripture that God is less concerned about how good we look on the outside, but is much more focused on what happens inside. Today we will look at how lasting transformation is less about stopping a behavior and more about changing the way we do life.

Have you ever asked the question: "What matters to God?" We ask it because what matters to God should matter to us. As we dive into Mark 12, we'll see just how deeply God cares about His plan, His people, and offering the His gift of Jesus to the world.
