    23/07/2020 Duração: 01h09min

John is a professor of psychology at the University of Toronto. In this talk, we discuss how ancient cultures and tribes had rituals, ceremonies and initiations into personhood that we have lost in modernity. We discuss the origins of these rituals, where they went and what the negative impacts of their void is on our mental wellbeing, our society and our familiies. • Parenting and Partying - Daniel Kazandjian

    16/07/2020 Duração: 01h11min

Daniel is a Stoic Philsopher and hosts a weekly 'Metagame Mastermind' at The Stoa. In this episode we talk about parenting, how our own upbringings were good, but flawed. We talk about creating a series of milestones in a child's life, with corresponding ceremonies that attempt to endow the child with the necessary knowledge, wisdom, guidance and love that will enable them to transition into the next level of personhood as they grow. We talk about how these ceremonies might look like parties and furthermore, how we party on my birthday and why. It's a rad look at how we can make more meaningful connections and growth through our parties with our friends. We also talk about Emotional Metabolism! How we process our human experiences and how important they are! • Andrew Taggart - What We've Lost

    14/07/2020 Duração: 02h10min

Andrew is a REAL philosopher; this will become clear very quickly in this episode. Andrew brings us his thoughts on three things; humanism (how we pinhole existence into the realm of human concerns and social interaction), Psyicalism (seeing the psyical world as all that exists, nothing more) and Secularism (the loss of divinity in existence, the view that the cosmos is actually just a cold, dark universe). This is a long episode, but it is one of the best episodes that I've recorded, thanks to the incredible and impressive coherence of Andrew's thinking and his articulation. Take this one in chunks, I had to! Find Andrew's work at www.askole.com Support this show by donating at www.paypal.me/ariintheair

  • Suicide and Communication - Matt Blank

    12/07/2020 Duração: 01h14min

Matt is a BASE Jumper and deep thinker. In this episode, he proposes the unlikely position that is essentially; "If you are going to jump off the bridge, at least let me come with you. At least share with me your thoughts before you go." This is an incredible shift from the typical response that is "Please dont do it! I beg you! You can't! Think of how sad your mom will be!". We also go really deep into the dynamics of communication that lead people to feel isolated emotionally and might even lead to their suicide - as well as the types of communication that might lead them away from the edge. We also talk about being enslaved by existence and how freeing of an act suicide really is, and how considering suicide might actually help people choose life. It's a crazy and powerful episode and the first one on which I actually cry. Its sad as fuck to think about how many millions of people think about, struggle with, attempt or succeed in killing themselves each year. Something is certainly broken here, my friends,

  • Gregg Henriques - The Tsunami of Mental Health

    08/07/2020 Duração: 01h08min

Gregg is a professor of Psychology at James Madison University in Virginia. He has done extensive work in an attempt to bring the disjointed field of psychology into coherence, and authored the book A New Unified Theory of Psychology. He's briliiant and wise and we've had 3, hour long conversations leading up to this one. In this talk, we explore my own experience with mental health lately, amidst Covid, lockdown, social media, racial riots, BLM and a hysterical online discourse. He has great insight and I'm sure this episode will help you understand how you've been feeling, or as gregg puts it, 'emotionally metabolize the present'. Thanks for coming on, Gregg! Love you! • Jared Janes - Cancel Culture and Memetic Mediation

    07/07/2020 Duração: 01h00s

Jared is a podcaster, meditator and thinker. In this episode we talk about the cancel culture mob, how it feels to be chased and more. We also talk about Memetic Mediation - basically a term for getting people of varying ideologies to actually communicate with one another so we can avoid or remedy needless polarization. We also talk a bit about the individuated self vs the idea of unity or oneness. We briefly discuss his role as the producer of the Jim Rutt show. (Jim has been on my podcast twice, check it out) He hosts the Both/And Podcast and the With Jared Janes Podcast. • Masculinity, Gender Relations and Friendship - Daniel Kazandjian

    01/07/2020 Duração: 01h45min

Daniel hosts the "Metagame Mastermind" at The Stoa. He's a deep philosophical thinker, an authentic relater and one of the best listeners that I've ever encountered. This episode is our first time ever talking, which is crazy considering how far we get. It is vulnerable and ernest; two traits that we agree need to be promoted in this time of transition. We talk about my own experience around feminism and gender relations, what I see/hear and what I think is missing or out of place. We talk about reinventing a new type of gender relations and what that might look and sound like. We talk about the importance of friendship, of brotherhood, of sisterhood, where they've gone and why. This is an awesome episode and I really appreciate daniel for his time and his presence. • Jim Rutt #2 - Complexity and Paragliding

    30/06/2020 Duração: 01h10min

Jim is the Chairman of the Santa Fe Institute, a radiacally trans-disciplinary complexity research institute in New Mexico. So, asking him about complexity is quite fitting. He's been dealing with this conversation for a long time and has some really interesting opinions on it. But it goes deeper, cause this episode mashes together Jim's scientific understanding of complexity with my own embodied experiences with complexity in my sports like paragliding, where I'm trying to understand and function in something as complex as the living atmosphere, and highlining, where my body is taking the reigns and is doing all of the complex computations that allow it to balance on a skinny, wobbly, mile-long rope! This episode is AWESOME! Thanks so much to Jim Rutt for being an OG in the Game B space and for being so fun to talk to. He's like the uncle I never had! lol Find Jim's podcast, which is unbelievably good, at www.thejimruttshow.com Donate to support this show at www.paypal.me/ariintheair Thanks everyone for

  • Dr. Zak Stein - Generational Warfare & Social Media

    23/06/2020 Duração: 01h12min

Zak is an educational philosopher and writer. His book, Education in a Time Between Worlds is profetic and profound. In this episode, Zak lays out what he sees happening in America; between BLM, ineffective protests, the generational warfare between the boomers and the millennials, how social media is driving us insane and will kill thousands of youth through suicide and so much more. It's a sober and terrifying episode that connects so many of the distant dots floating around right now. Find Zak's work at www.zakstein.org Donate to support this show at www.paypal.me/ariintheair

  • Latest Thoughts about Black Lives Matter and America (Livecast 6/09/2020)

    09/06/2020 Duração: 44min

I, like most of you, have had so many thoughts and feelings surrounding the Black Lives Matter movement, yet none of them are regarding the validity of those words. So much other stuff has come up with it; white privilege and guilt, police brutality, hysteria, group think, virtue signaling, 'systemic' everything, "White silence is violence", voting for trump making you a racist, breakdown of decency and discourse, cognitive errors, slander, hubris, self righteousness, backwards mantras, Martin Luther king, mother Theresa, nelson Mandela, riots, protests, defunding the police, and so much more. I dive in here, hesitantly, and with all the humility I can muster. (An amount that I hope is growing in me) I hope you'll listen with the Omega principle, that you'll give me the benefit of the doubt. We gotta stay in right relationship with one another if we're to make any kind of progress here. • Dr. John Vervaeke - The Real Revolution

    06/06/2020 Duração: 01h24min

John is a professor of psychology at the University of Toronto and he heads the Cognitive Science lab there. He is one of the most important thinkers of our time, as his integral approach garners the best of ancient, modern, religious, scientific and everything in between in an attempt to distill wisdom. Wisdom that guides us into a real revolution, one that allows us to reinvent how we see ourselves as a species, as people, as sacred, not merely reforming just the current political paradigm we find ourselves in. This is the revolution I want to be a part of. This is the revolution that John is a deep member of, a leader of, a humble champion for. This episode is transcendental, enjoy accordingly. • Peter Limberg - Sexiness, Friendship and Virtue

    05/06/2020 Duração: 01h19min

Peter is a philosopher and writer from Toronto. His daily journals on Letter.com are the most read content on the platform, and for good reason; Peter is a brilliant thinker and writer and his vulnerability and openness are inspiring. We've become friends and our conversations are quite powerful, if I do say so myself. I think you'll agree. We talk about making virtue and philosophy sexy in order to steal the culture. We talk about friendship and brotherhood, its importance in accountability and growth and we talk about gender relations, and how we think the conversation needs to change. We talk about connection and collaboration through ideals and virtues. We talk about a lot more. Enjoy. Find Peter's Journals here https://letter.wiki/conversation/491 Check out Peter's project, The Stoa at www.thestoa.ca I love you Peter Limberg! Keep crushing it.

  • Motherfucking Pistachios

    12/05/2020 Duração: 35min

Some people I know threw some pistachio shells on the ground at my local paragliding site. It really pissed me off and sent me down the philosophical rabbit hole of what my relation to the commons should be. Where is an appropriate place to throw a pistachio shell? What is 'litter'? Why are people still throwing their trash on the ground? What can I do to convince them to stop doing that? Pistachios are a tree nut from the Middle East and Central Asia. Their shells are very hard and their nutmeat is delicious. They come a really long way to be in your hand and in doing so they bestow upon you a responsibility, a power to wonder what it really means to be a steward, to wonder what your relationship to the commons is. Small nuts but big questions. If you think this is the kind of conversation that we should be having right now, share this show with your intellectual tribe. 06/05/2020 Duração: 01h07min

Sage is one of the greatest big mountain skiers of all time. He's also a great friend of mine and we've been lucky to ski and bike together at home and abroad. In this episode we talk about the 'season that never happened' where all ski resorts were forced to close amidst pandemic. We also talk about mountain biking, our trip to Oaxaca, our mutual friend Adam Craig, our shared multi-sport lifestyles, our thoughts on the coronavirus and so much more. So stoked to have Sage back on the show. The moment Sage Cattabriga-Alosa’s signature long locks fly through the air and across the screen,—as they have each fall for almost 10 years—ski film audiences turn it up a decibel. Fans appreciate his humble free-spirit, happy-go-lucky personality and smooth style no matter how complex the descent, but it’s Sage’s creativity—the unique way he reads

  • How to Give a Fuck

    01/05/2020 Duração: 26min

In our current culture, we are addicted to calling out what is wrong, but with a very narrow, shallow view of what is actually going on; why are these problems manifesting? What are the conditions that are contributing? What are the emotional, experiential and cognitive processes that are creating it? We tend to just point a finger, rah rah rah, and then go back to what we were doing. The fucks we are giving are shallow and unhelpful. We have to mature into a higher level of development so we can look with omni-consideration at our problems, from every possible viewpoint. This creates a much deeper fuck to give, and deeper fucks to give is just what we need right now. • Midas Warned Us - We Didn't Listen

    30/04/2020 Duração: 12min

Do you remember the myth of King Midas? Everything he touched turned to gold! How awesome! Wait, fuck. How do I eat now??!? This myth has a really important warning for us, and I don't think we've headed yet. In this episode, I dive deep into what that lesson was and how we might take it's advice. Please support this podcast by donating! www.paypal.me/ariintheair According to Aristotle, legend held that Midas died of starvation as a result of his "vain prayer" for the gold touch.[3] The legends told about this Midas and his father Gordias, credited with founding the Phrygian capital city Gordium and tying the Gordian Knot, indicate that they were believed to have lived sometime in the 2nd millennium BC, well before the Trojan War. However, Homer does not mention Midas or Gordias, while instead mentioning two other Phrygian kings, Mygdon and Otreus.
