    12/03/2023 Duração: 28min

Around 20% of the population live with or are impacted by arthritis. What is it, why does it occur and how do we go about improving the health of our joints? There are hundreds of arthritides (forms of arthritis), and today we focus on osteoarthritis (the most common form of arthritis). From "wear and tear" to the undiagnosed and untreated incidents we've let develop over the years, we cover off all the major causes of osteoarthritis and discuss whether it's genetic, lifestyle driven, stress-related and so much more. Australian Masters Games General Manager Jane Woodlands-Thompson joins us on 100 Not Out as we discuss what it takes to defy the stereotype of ageing in Australia. One of the biggest one-liners in society is around "slowing down" as we get older, but for the 10,000 legends who compete at the Australian Masters Games, they have no intention of slowing down at all. Held from the 7-14 of October in Adelaide this year, the Australian Masters Games is an incredible showcase of everything 100 Not Out is about. Ticking the boxes of movement, social engagement, growth and purpose, we can't wait to create a 100 Not Out team in the future and participate at such an incredible event. • 100NO 517: Avoiding Chronic Disease Pt 2 - Stress, genes and our limiting beliefs

    26/02/2023 Duração: 27min

Part two of our fascinating conversation around chronic disease focuses on some of the limiting beliefs society has around ageing, genes, family history, and the quality of our future. So many of us have been conditioned to believe there's next to nothing we can do about our health because of the lives our parents lived. On this episode we discuss how genes really work, how important our lifestyle is to those genes expressing themselves, and why if we don't change our beliefs about fatalism and the ageing process, we simply end up on the stats that show 12+ years of morbidity. This is a fiery episode of 100 Not Out, we hope you enjoy! Photo by Sangharsh Lohakare on Unsplash

  • 100NO 516: Avoiding Chronic Disease Pt 1 including Cancer, Heart Disease, Diabetes & Dementia

    19/02/2023 Duração: 23min

On this special two-part episode of 100 Not Out we explore the impact of chronic disease on longevity. The statistical truth is that chronic disease in the modern advanced world is not enough to stop someone living a long-time. But even with all the medication and treatment in the world, chronic disease creates a tidal wave of physical, financial, familial and emotional stress. So what are the main causes of chronic disease, and how can we prevent it as we go about our lives? FINAL CALL - Our group for our Longevity Experience to Ikaria must be finalised by Feb 28. • 100NO 514: The real and personal reason why longevity burns in our soul

    05/02/2023 Duração: 57min

So many people think Blue Zones and longevity and "Ageing well" is such a luxurious conversation ... Many people think longevity is a "wellness hack" you do by exercising, eating the latest diet and practicing mindfulness. But when you consider how terrible the final 12+ years of life is for most people, it's clear that longevity - and quality longevity - is not some luxury item, but an urgent life skill we must master. On Ikaria, the locals experience 80% less dementia, 50% less cancer and 20% less heart disease. Think of that for a moment. We go to Ikaria to experience how these people achieve these incredible results. And why a life free from dementia, cancer and heart disease is within our grasp too. Our group to Ikaria for this year's 10Day Longevity Experience in June must be finalised by February 28. At the time of publishing this podcast we have 4 spaces left. It's quite incredible when you consider how much change can take place in 100 years. But most impressively is the way Clare has handled adversity in her life. Having grieved for her first husband and all three siblings (who all died from cancer), Clare knows a thing or too about living with grace whilst going through tough times. Enjoy this chat with another thriving centenarian in Clare Bothmann. For more info on Clare, you can read this article. • 100NO 505: Julia Fox is DONE with anti-ageing and so are we

    27/11/2022 Duração: 19min

Ageing is "in" according to Julia Fox (if you don't know who she is, click here), and anti-ageing is OUT! “Just to let you guys know, aging is fully in—like fully,” Fox said in a recent TikTok video. “And if I see another project that says ‘anti-aging’ on the label, I’m suing. I’m going to sue because I’m gonna age regardless of if I put the fucking $500 serum on my face. And you all fucking know it, and we fucking know it, so let’s stop lying to ourselves. Getting old is fucking hot. It's sexy. It's probably the sexiest time in life, actually, because being pretty and hot in your twenties is the fucking trenches, okay? And I'm not going back there.” So, whether you're 32 (like Fox) or 22 or 42 or 92 ... the idea which Fox promotes so well is to give up on the idea of "anti" ageing. Whilst we can all fall into the ideal of "looking" younger than we really are, trying to "stop" a process that is natural and unstoppable is bordering on the ridiculous (and let's be honest, creates waves of anxiety across the glo

  • 100NO 503: Magda’s Big National Health Check

    13/11/2022 Duração: 16min

Magda Szubanski is the host of Magda’a Big National Health Check. It’s a new show out now on the ABC and today on the podcast we talk about the approach the ABC have gone with in having an obese host fronting a series on health. Is it OK? Is it the right message? And what message does it send to viewers? Before you press play, we can tell you that we’re more than happy for Magda Szubanski to be hosting the program. No worries with it whatsoever. But the issue we mainly discuss on this episode is whether her own experiences (and her experiences with health professionals) is a template that could disempower Australians to not take responsibility for their own health. We referenced two articles in this episode – this one from the ABC, and this one from The Guardian. Image courtesy ABC. • 100NO 502: Wearable tech and the desire for data

    06/11/2022 Duração: 22min

Damo loves data. As a chiropractor and naturopath, he’s always been deep into the science and data of health. Marcus on the other hand, is not a data man. He doesn’t have an oura ring and doesn’t know how much REM sleep he gets. On this episode we discuss many things including the desire for data and the positive behavioural change we might make when he have more information available to us. Our view at 100 Not Out is that there is no right or wrong, good or bad when it comes to data. Whatever it takes for you to make better decisions for your health – and life – can only be a good thing.
