  • 100NO 320: Nature v Nurture | Genes v Environment

    19/05/2019 Duração: 28min

Many people feel like they can change anything – from hair colour to body shape, even to baby gender. In this world of bespoke anything, what is the role of the environment? And how much weight can we give to our upbringing? If we are a lot like our parents or the people who raised us, is it upon us to change it? And when it comes to our loved ones, how much expectation is there for people to change? • 100NO 319: Stress is Good

    12/05/2019 Duração: 25min

That’s right. Stress is good and we don’t get enough of it. On this episode, we completely revolutionise the conversation around stress. The vocabulary changes, and Damian shares how “you won’t get a result unless you go into stress.” Anything you want in life requires an element of stress. And more than ever people are trying to get what they want without stressing. Instead of “reducing” stress it’s time to “maximise” the power of stress. If reading this doesn’t make sense, then listening to this episode will. We promise! Photo by Gabriel Matula on Unsplash The post 100NO 319: Stress is Good appeared first on The Wellness Couch.

  • 100NO 318: Hump Day | Getting Through The Grind | Groundhog Day Musings

    05/05/2019 Duração: 25min

Many people despise the feelings of “groundhog day”. But what if there was a sign or power to those feelings of boredom and a general lack of fulfillment. When we talk about the “grind” of daily life, it rarely conjures up images of success. But what if the “grind” was something that only the true exceptionals of this world did. When we look at people we admire, we often love their commitment to doing the hard work – the grinding. On this episode, we ask whether we have become too “Grind averse” today, constantly looking for the easy work and what keeps us comfortable. The graceful agers we have interviewed have had to grind more than most – and that’s what we love about them. • 100NO 317: ANZAC Special- War Widow Thelma Zimmerman

    28/04/2019 Duração: 21min

Thelma Zimmerman fell in love aged 15, was married at 18, and joined the Australian Army in 1943 with her husband Alby. After being “found out” as husband and wife, Thelma returned home to Adelaide, whilst Alby was deployed around Asia with the Air Construction Corps, repairing airstrips blown up and destroyed by the Japanese. Thelma saw her husband Alby for four days in the next two years. At 96 years of age, Thelma continues to live a rich life – a strong part of the War Widows Guild of South Australia, a keen member of her local church, with a strong sense of purpose, movement and community. Thelma Zimmerman, we salute you! Image copyright Adelaide Now We dedicate this episode of 100 Not Out to the tens of thousands of Australian men and women who lost their life in the numerous wars, peacekeeping efforts and conflicts around the world. “The time has come” an Australian said, “Bye” as he faced the door and ran ahead. • 100NO 316: 7 Seeds Of Your Life Purpose

    21/04/2019 Duração: 28min

Marcus is in the thick of preparing for his signature event Exceptional Life Blueprint Live in Byron Bay and wants to run some of the content by Damo and the listeners. Marcus shares insights on the 7 seeds of your life purpose – or the reason you were born to live. Some of these seeds include your family upbringing, a crisis you’ve experiences – be it physical, cultural, financial, familial, environmental, etc. When looking at some of the most inspirational people on the planet, there life purpose often came from a crisis. Alternatively, family pressure, resistance and even the “opposite” nature of family members (giving us the feeling of a black sheep) is a regular source of life purpose clarity. An off the cuff, deep and meaningful and hopefully insightful conversation for you on this edition of 100 Not Out. ** EXCEPTIONAL LIFE BLUEPRINT LIVE IN BYRON BAY TICKET DETAILS BELOW ** Powered by Eventbrite The post 100NO 316: 7 Seeds Of Your Life Purpose appeared first on The Wellness Couch.

  • 100NO 315: Life Is The Dash Between Your Birth Date & Death Date

    14/04/2019 Duração: 30min

Damian has been to two funerals since last week’s episode. Fair to say it’s been a rough week! Having attendeed two funerals in three weeks, Damo has heard some similar themes, and one that has come up is the concept of the dash. The dash that joins the birthdate and the death date is what our life represents. The question is how are you spending the dash? How does it look right now? A deep and meaningful chat on this episode of 100 Not Out The post 100NO 315: Life Is The Dash Between Your Birth Date & Death Date appeared first on The Wellness Couch.

  • 100NO 314: Intuition | How To Access It And Follow It

    07/04/2019 Duração: 26min

This episode of 100 Not Out is dedicated to a listener, a friend and a beautiful soul who left us this week. We will miss you Tess Ley. In this episode it’s all about intuition. Marcus had a recent experience where an intuitive nudge was ignored for a more practical, sensible option, only for it to come smashing back in his face (or more to the point, his son Darby’s). Sometimes intuition is overwhelmingly present, whilst other times intuition is like a hard-to-hear whisper. When do you listen, and when do you not? And how do you get better at listening to the voice that makes no logical sense, but may unlock the opportunities to a greater life. All this and more on intuition in this episode of 100 Not Out. This episode proudly brought to you by our 100 Not Out Longevity Experience on the Blue Zone Greek island of Ikaria. Join us for 10-days of all things longevity from September 4-13. • 100NO 313: Marie Kondo | Decluttering | Loving Where You Live

    31/03/2019 Duração: 34min

We have both moved house in the last month, and together are emotionally exhausted after the process! We are yet to find anyone who is not mentally, emotionally, and often physically fatigued after the moving process. To the rescue in recent times to help with the process is Marie Kondo. Damian and his family binge-watched Kondo’s Netflix series before moving, and he shares his insights on this episode. We also discuss donating or selling, upcycling and the importance of living in a community of people you love rather than being caught up solely in the quality of a home. • 100NO 312: The Emotional Heartbreak and Inspiration That Death Brings

    24/03/2019 Duração: 24min

Damian returns to the podcast for the first time since the death of his grandfather. John Roch Kennedy was 15 days away from celebrating his 100th birthday. Having, in the words of Damian, “knicked one through to the keeper” at 99, Damian shares some heartfelt learnings that come with the rawness of emotion that only time can allow. In this episode we discuss – ** How Papa was like a father to Damian – he shares this fascinating, heartbreaking, and ultimately uplifting story ** How Damo feels about his grandfather getting so close to 100 Not Out ** Damo watching his son Jackson sing Ave Maria at the funeral ** Will the funeral be the beginning or the end of remembering Papa (this conversation is a reference to episode 311 on the art of grief). • 100NO 311: How To Grieve- To Celebrate Life Or Bemoan Death

    17/03/2019 Duração: 21min

This podcast comes without Damo whose grandfather (Papa) has died aged 99. We send Damo and his family our sincerest condolences at this time. Papa’s passing raises a conversation that we had around celebrating life when we were in Ikaria back in 2016. Upon learning about how Ikarians (and many people in the Greek Orthodox faith) “do death”, there is a strong case to argue that we have a lot to learn about in our culture. You will hear in this episode that in Ikaira, “the funeral is just the beginning, not the end”, which is very different for many of us. You will also hear about multi-generational family dynamics, and how they are celebrated. We hope this episode gives you the opportunity to assess your own attitudes towards multi-generational relationships and also what type of culture you find yourself in when you grieve. *** GREEK ISLAND LONGEVITY EXPERIENCE *** We return to Ikaria this September for the third time. • 100NO 310: Special Report On Medication Safety Part 2

    10/03/2019 Duração: 28min

Imagine this – you suffer a nasty fall and go to hospital. You are discharged and the treatment plan includes a variety of medication to assist you in your recovery. Only problem is, no pharmacist has approved the plan. The medications suggested conflict and create a raft of negative effects on your body and your health. Then consider that this is happening to every 3 out of every 5 people given such a plan where a pharmacist has not been involved. The peak body for pharmacists in Australia recently published a damning report against the unneccesary financial, mental and health cost of incorrect medication use. Over 600,000 people have either been admitted or presented to emergency in a 12-month period, with over 50% of those being preventable. The total cost of admissions alone was $1.4 billion. Let that sink in for a little (especially if you beat yourself up over wasting $10 on an entree you didn’t need). What’s more, this report received very little news in the mainstream media (except for this article in

  • 100NO 307: How To Slow Down But Improve Productivity As You Get Older

    17/02/2019 Duração: 26min

There’s a social expectation – be it amongst business, parents or community – to be busy. Whether that’s frantic, rushed or overcommitted, all are seen as almost noble and worthy of praise and perceived as oozing productivity. On this episode of 100 Not Out we discuss whether the natural slowing down that ageing creates means that we are not able to produce at the same level. We discuss how priorities shift over time, how working 80 hours per week seems less attractive with age, even if those days were enjoyed (either as a parent, entrepreneur or overworking employee), and how to embrace the changing pace of life without losing the productive edge. Quality beats quantity, particularly as you get older. We hope you enjoy this podcast and that it sheds a new light on productivity. *** JOIN US FOR QUALITY TIME ON THE GREEK ISLAND OF IKARIA *** From September 4 to 13 we’ll be in Ikaria, the Greek Island recognised as the epicentre for longevity. • 100NO 306: Synchronicity Part 2- Joining Dots, What If It Was All Meant To Be

    10/02/2019 Duração: 28min

We continue our conversation on synchronicity and sliding doors moments with more real-life examples from our own personal lives and those of our friends. We share a recent story from Cyndi O’Meara about her unknown connection to Brandon Bays, plus we share some incredible family and career moments that go beyond the realm of random coincidence. Marcus recounts the dots that allowed him to first meet Damian (which actually began in Ireland), and Damian shares the synchronicity that allowed him to meet and eventually marry his wife, Amber. The lesson: don’t discount the synchronicity that has existed in your life. Take the time to reflect on your life with a series of “if, then” questions and particularly look at how some of the toughest moments in your life may have sowed the seeds of incredible gifts. ** LONGEVITY EXPERIENCE 2019 *** We’re off to the Greek Island where people forget to die – the exquisite Ikaria from September 4 to 13 this year. • 100NO 305: Sliding Doors Moments & Synchronicity | Making Sense Of Hard Times

    03/02/2019 Duração: 30min

Do you remember the movie Sliding Doors with Gwyneth Paltrow? In this episode we reflect on how some of our guests have experienced great joy, love and success only after going through harrowing experiences. We use World War Two survivors Eddie Jaku  and Ada Murkies as examples, who both fell in love with their life partners during or after the war. Would they have met their soulmates if it were not for the war? And then what of their children? Would they have been born? Marcus and Damian both share personal examples. Marcus wonders if he would have been born if his grandfather’s first wife didn’t die shortly after giving birth to their tenth child. And Damian reflects on how he met his wife, Amber, and the synchronous and sliding doors moments that brought the two of them together. An insightful, deep and meaningful episode of 100 Not Out. *** MORE DEEP & MEANINGFULS IN IKARIA *** If you loved this conversation, imagine doing it over looking the Aegean Sea on the Greek Island of Ikaria, also known as the

  • 100NO 304: Was Jeanne Calment – the oldest person ever – a fraud?

    27/01/2019 Duração: 26min

Controversy surrounds the longevity and genterology world with the possible indentity fraud committed by Yvonne Calment. A recent research project has claimed that Yvonne, Jeanne Calment’s daughter, may have taken over her mother’s identity in 1934 when Jeanne possibly died. The records stats that Yvonne, aged 36, is the one who died. Confused? Hang in there, this story gets juicier. Photos, anecdotal stories and physical milestones (such as Jeanne’s extraordinary height in her later years) add layer upon layer to this plausible but not definite outcome that Jeanne Calment as we know her was actually her daughter, Yvonne. To find out more, listen to this episode and then delve into this three part series of articles on Medium.  ** 2019 Longevity Experience On The Greek Island Of Ikaria *** Join us from September 4-13 to live with the locals, drink the wine, harvest the olive oil and emulate the longevity lifestyle that sees Ikaria as the epicentre for ageing well in today’s world. 13/01/2019 Duração: 29min
