It’s our last episode of the season! Getting ready to start a new summer internship? J. Michael DeAngelis and A. Mylène Kerschner review some “best practices” that will ensure you make a good impression at your workplace and create lasting value for your experience. We also make a plea to current Penn students to fill out their career plans and/or summer surveys and run down the last of this semester’s programming. Finally, and with a heavy heart, we bid goodbye to our producer/editor/mixer, Ann Mollin, who is off to big and better things and we wish her the best! It’s the penultimate episode of the season and we’re encouraging you all to stay home! This week, Mylène and Michael explore the many Career Services resources available to Penn students and alumni online. There’s so much you can do from home – including researching employers and industries, taking a self-assessment, reviewing sample resumes, and more. Thinking it’s already too late to secure a summer job or internship? This week, Michael and Mylène take a look at the 2015 summer survey data that shows plenty of undergraduates didn’t secure their summer activity until the end of April or later. We’ll take an in depth look at what undergrads from every class and school do with their summer and discuss taking “traditional” summer jobs like life guarding or camp counseling. This week, Mylène and Michael are honored to welcome Julie Vick into the studio. Julie is the co-author of The Academic Job Search Handbook, which has just been released in a new 5th edition. Julie talks about her many years of working with graduate students in Career Services, the challenges facing them today and why The Academic Job Search Handbook is such an important tool. It’s almost spring break!! What better way to start of your week of wild adventures and all night parties than with the All Ivy Environmental Career Fair? A. Mylène Kerschner and J. It’s career fair time! Penn is hosting three big career fairs this week: the Creative Career Fair (covered in Episode 13), the Start Up fair and the Spring Career Fair. This week, Mylène and Michael focus on the Start Up fair and welcome one of the fair’s organizers, Tiffany Franklin, to the studio. Tiffany will discuss what to expect at the fair as well as give our listeners an overview of how start up recruiting is potentially different from what you’re used to. Love is in the air in this pre-Valentine’s Day episode! Mylène and Michael are joined by the Director of Penn Career Services, Patricia Rose, to discuss the question of loving what you do versus doing what you love. Early February sees many Career Services programs related to careers in entertainment, including an amazing alumni speaker and our Creative Careers job fair.
