Taylor Powers and Ethan Millard reveal some of their favorite places, in part because they are never crowded! Ethan's secret spot is the third valley in Goblin Valley just west of Moab. Apparently serene and much less traveled than the first two. Taylor's is her close-to-home camping spot just 40 minutes west on the shore of Stansbury Bay. Vast and empty miles of dried shoreline becomes a host for campfires, sports, and the occasional donut... Utah has so much to offer for families and individuals alike, but people tend to crown in the same places. Venture out of your norm and visit somewhere you've never been before! That's right, everybody poops! But now, we can collect dinosaur's! It has been fossilized and is actually quite pretty... Ethan will be venturing out into the high desert of hanksville to gather some with his family, pictures coming soon. Utah is recognizable for it's dino history, however most of the fossils are off-limits, these turds, also known as coprolite, are not! So get out there with your family this weekend and take home some poop. On another spectrum of fun outdoor learning activities and education for families, is the Parade of Raptors series happening all over Utah this spring and summer. Utah Museum of Contemporary Art isn't the only one hosting family art Saturdays, The Utah Museum of Fine art has a very similar program that takes place on the third Saturday of each month. Explore the exhibits and learn from experienced artists and educators with your family and leave with knowledge and a project! Maybe art isn't your thing, how about sports!? Snowbird, the world renowned ski resort in Utah is known mainly for two things, its incredible terrain and Oktoberfest. We have an inkling that Snowboard wants to be recognized as a year round resort. A weekend filled with yoga, chocolate, cheese, and art sounds pretty impressive! That's only the half of it! The yoga... at the aquarium either in the "rainforest" or in the shark exhibit. Sounds like a powerful experience. The Chocolate and Cheese are combined into a festival full of workshops and shopping held at the Natural History Museum. Lastly, the family art is an art class led by an experienced instructor at the Utah Museum of Contemporary Art! Utah is a state with a lot of geological history and because a large majority of it is public land, this means you can take home much of what you discover! Ethan Millard and his family took advantage of this opportunity and drove out southeast of Tooelle to a beautiful rock quarry full of a stone called rhyolite, more commonly referred to as, Wonderstone, in fact, the quarry is called Wonderstone Quarry. They collected a few pieces of this stone, drove back to SLC, rented a palm sander from Home depot and polished up their finds to create stunning treasures! The official market that spring has arrived is the annual pond skimming competition that is recognized across ski resorts world-wide! Utah is no stranger to this event. The 21st annual Pond Skimming Event is being held during Park City's Spring Gruv festival this April at mid-mountain. That's not the only way they celebrate spring however, Park City's Spring event lasts 19 days and it is filled with free concerts, food and beverages galore, kids activities and so much more! Bird fanatic or not, this episode is full of great activities for all! Turns out, Salt Lake City is a great place for bird lovers alike. With the valley, marsh land, the lake, and the City, birds love it here. Tracy Aviary at Liberty Park near Downtown is a great place to come see a variety of birds and watch them perform during one of their many shows. Also held at the Aviary is the Great Salt Lake Audubon Birds and Bites festival, which is a free event for all to participate in a scavenger hunt at the aviary (ice cream included). And the bird that loves the city? The Peregrine Falcon. It loves it sit up high in the city and stalk its prey, pigeons! Taylor Powers and Ethan Millard had the chance to experience some of Utah's great cultural offerings. Ethan and his kids spent the day at the Museum of Curiosity at Thanksgiving Point, a kid focused but not kid-exclusive, museum full of interactive activities. Taylor got to attend a play at the Center Pointe Legacy Theatre to see the production of Mary Poppins! Outdoor Retailer may be leaving, but we have suspicion another expo might be on the rise to replace it here in Utah. The Big Outdoors Expo this weekend has it all! Camping, hiking, fishing, mountain biking, just to name a few of the categories it covers. Plenty of activities for kids, as well as some great giveaways including an ATV, a gun safe, a trip to Disneyland for 4, and a white water rafting trip in Jackson Hole, Wyoming! Not your scene? Everyone knows that Utah is a very active state, but you may not know just how many races there are all spring and summer long. Every weekend there are at least 5 races to choose from, many of which reside in the Salt Lake City area. These races include kid's runs, 5ks, 10ks, half marathons, marathons, and adventure courses. Adventure courses range from trail runs up to 100 miles and quadathlons in Moab with Biking, Paddling, Trail Running, and Repelling! This weekend is all about supporting local in Salt Lake City! Local Music all around town with the Utah Music Festival and local vintage and antique shops at the annual Vintage Whites Market! Taylor will be participating in the fashion show at the Vintage Whites Market supporting shops including RetroBetty, Maeberry Vintage, Copperhive Vintage and more! Shopping, entertainment, food and drinks included at this event at the State Fair Park. LEGO is iconic, and so are many of the structures people build with them. This free event for ages 5 and up lends 2 hours and unlimited LEGO to create and collaborate with others! Register your kids and help them learn architecture and design! Head up to Park City every last Friday of the month for a gallery stroll through 20 of Park City's unique galleries featuring amazing artists, many of whom you will get to meet. The Leonardo Museum at Library Square in Downtown Salt Lake City, Utah hosts reoccurring events that are family friendly! Just a short drive up Emigration Canyon you will find the historic diner, renovated from the original car. Utah is an extremely cultural place, partly due to the amount of universities we have here! University of Utah Marriot Library has some incredible exhibits and events going on right now, as well as Brigham Young University's Museum on Art! Art After Dark is an ongoing series with different themes, currently spotlighting African American Art. In addition, the Museum of Contemporary Art here in Downtown Salt Lake City is holding a Grand Opening of 5 featured exhibits called the Comprehensive Museum. There are also tons of options for local galleries and specialty museums as well. All about kids! Winter Palooza in Sandy, Utah offers and event full of activities that your kids will go wild over! Rock climbing, laser tag, trampolines, bounce houses, ferris wheel, face painting and so much more! Tired yet?
