40 Acres & A Fool

As winter weather settles in on the farm, the pattern of life slows down a little. But with a family to raise and animals to care for, things are still pretty hectic for Cam and Miss E. This week they're making hot sauce, prepping for Christmas, and engaging in a coast-to-coast conversation with other homesteaders and small farmers. There's an open seat at the kitchen table, so settle in for the latest from the Near Frontier.

It's been 40 episodes and three seasons on the 40 acres, and as winter settles in across central Virginia Cam's taking a look back at the year on the farm. That doesn't mean there's isn't more work to be done; in fact Cam's getting ready for one of the less pleasant tasks for someone who raises their own food.

It's a Thanksgiving-themed edition of 40 Acres & A Fool, complete with some of Miss E's favorite recipes for the family feast, so settle down at the kitchen table with Cam & company as they give thanks for their life on the near frontier.

Cam's back after an unexpected absence. Thankfully Miss E's back in the saddle as well (at least metaphorically speaking), and she's full of tales of woe and recovery after taking a spill on Halloween. Cam's got stories from a butchering workshop he attended over the weekend, and we check in with listeners and homesteaders all across the country on this week's 40 Acres and a Fool.

Halloween may have come and gone, but it left its mark on Miss E, Cam, and the rest of the family (but mostly on Miss E). The Virginia elections have also taken place, and in a town not far from Farmville, grassroots supporters of the right to keep and bear arms fended off a bid by Michael Bloomberg to turn the state's Senate anti-gun. We'll talk about the tough breaks for Miss E and Bloomberg, plus check in with friends old and new on this week's 40 Acres and a Fool.

It's been another exciting week on the 40 acres, starting with a surprise homecoming centered around Miss E's big birthday bash. Plus, "Heavy Lifting", the book Cam co-authored with his friend Jim Geraghty is now officially on sale, and Miss E has some questions for the new author.

The Near Frontier's had it's first freeze of the fall, and with that this year's growing season has come to an end. Cam and Miss E look back on the highs and lows, as well as celebrate her birthday and hear from friends old and new on this week's 40 Acres and a Fool.

The nights are crisp and the trees are in full color on the farm, and this week Miss E sits down at the kitchen table with Cam to talk about a classic fall recipe: slow cooked venison. The conversation turns to family and friends, and we check in with some "fools" with their own farm dreams from around the country.

It's been a big week for the little town of Farmville. Not only did the town learn it'll be hosting the 2016 Vice Presidential Debate, the annual Five County Fair's kicked off, and to top it all off, it's time for the local Friends of NRA dinner! We'll also check in on some new additions to the farm, and hear from some new friends of the fool as well.

Cam's still making some new discoveries in the garden, including a predator that came to prey on the chickens. We'll get into the presidential debates (are we ever going to get a question about rural life or farming?), bacon-making, barnyard bullying, and a look at a classic book of conservatism, now nearly forgotten but still full of wisdom.

A change in location for some of the farm animals has set off a round of vicious barnyard politics at Cam's place. Plus, with two hogs now at "freezer camp", it's time to turn some of that pork into sausage. County and state fairs are springing to life across the country, and Cam's got a plan to hit several in the state of Virginia. Plus, the growing number of "farm distilleries" popping up in some surprising places, and a "foolish" question or two inspired by his latest trip to the local dump.

Cam's got company this week, and not just on NRA News Cam & Co. Friends old and new have been stopping by the farm, and so have some not-so-friendly visitors like a fox or two. Cam shares the latest attempt to protect his chickens from the local predators, and discusses the possibility of a financial bubble that could impact the nation's small farmers.

Cam's exploring southwestern Virginia on an epic one-day road trip before welcoming his oldest daughter home for a visit. Plus, we've figured out the trouble with tomatoes, and as it turns out, the "Fool" might have made problems in the garden worse instead of better.
