Super Bowl 55 drawing extra attention from the pro wrestling world - not just because former 24/7 Champion Rob Gronkowski is part of the winning Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Last night’s big game at Raymond James Stadium provided some clues about what to expect when WrestleMania is held in that same stadium...coming up in April. More than 20,000 fans in attendance last night - That included 7,500 vaccinated healthcare workers. Some 30,000 cardboard cutouts were used to fill some of the empty seats. During its investor call last week, WWE said information on WrestleMania ticket availability and safety protocols is forthcoming. Speaking of the 24/7 Title...it changed hands during the Super Bowl weekend festivities. Former Super Bowl champ and Heisman Trophy winner Doug Flutie pinned R-Truth during a Celebrity Flag Football Game.

Results from Tuesday’s New Japan show, Impact Wrestling and AEW Dark are straight ahead in this update but first… (STINGER: WWE) WWE has reportedly RELEASED Lars Sullivan. PWInsider says Sullivan was let go last month, but WWE did not confirm the move until Tuesday. WWE signed Sullivan back in 2013. He made his TV debut on NXT in 2017. He was called up to the main roster the following year - but his time with WWE after that was full of starts and stops...and revelations of offensive comments and behavior before he was signed. Sullivan ended up having only FIVE matches on WWE’s main roster. His final one was last October. There’s been no comment from Sullivan. Royal Rumble winner Edge is keeping busy this week. Last night’s Royal Rumble gave us two history-making winners. 11 years to the day after he won his first Rumble, Edge won it again...and became only the third man to win the Rumble from the #1 spot. Edge is the 8th man to win the Rumble multiple times. The 11 year gap between his victories is the second longest EVER. Randy Orton was there at the beginning - and there at the end - but absent for just about everything else. Orton was the #2 entrant. He and Edge opened the Rumble with a wild brawl that ended up sending Orton backstage for “medical attention”. He didn’t return until the VERY end of the Rumble...only to be the final elimination that sealed Edge’s victory. The men’s Rumble also saw some surprising returns.
