Through my philanthropic efforts, I have built relationships through the country to help raise money for the 42 goal, which is to create and maintain a diverse community when kids of both affluent and underserved backgrounds can play sports, dance, and create music together. We also help provide tuition awards and help restore inner city parks and sports fields. Sal Velez Jr. was born in Chicago, Illinois as Salvador Velez Jr. to Vivian Hernandez, a school teacher and Salvador Velez, a U.S. Postman. A second generation Puerto Rican, Sal's parents divorced at an early age where Sal, his mother and sister relocated to Houston, Texas. Sal later returned to Chicago's Humboldt Park at the age of 14 to reconnect with his father. Growing up in the rough streets of Chicago while working a full-time job in the Steel Worker's Union, Sal used entertainment as his muse, from impersonations of iconic actors to singing Latin Jazz in nightclubs. In 2001, he was discovered and invited to audition for the infamous Chicago's Second City where he won a three-year scholarship and studied Improv, Classical, Sketch Writing and Musical Theater and soon after joined their Second City Tour Company. He spent his teenage and college years as a singer/songwriter and was given the opportunity to perform on stages from Los Angeles to Bangkok Thailand. He released an acoustic EP which included his first single "New Stage". This song and the music video (shot with a single hand cam by director, Justin Patten) got Mykell a starring role alongside Mike "The Situation" in a web series called New Stage (titled after his single of the same name). The track was also the theme song for the series. After this experience Mykell released a full length album,completely reinvented himself, and then moved to Los Angeles California to put all his effort into making his dreams a reality.
