A group of Kuchi children are living in a minefield around Bagram airfield, Afghanistan. They dig out old Soviet landmines in order to sell the explosives to child workers in the Lapis Lazuli mine. Meanwhile Gholam Nasir and his gang control the mountains where caravans are smuggling the blue gem stones to the border of Tajikistan and Pakistan. When Gholam’s gang is not guiding the caravans over the frozen rivers, they dream about Afghanistan after the withdrawal of the Americans. Some of them will grow up as soldiers, others will remain with the caravans. But Gholam dreams about marrying and living with his queen in the palace in Kabul. Will Afghanistan have a new king after the foreigners will have returned home? Innovators: Madeline Di Nonno introduces GD-IQ
08/11/2016 Duração: 24minWomen in Film and Television Ireland (WFT.I) in collaboration with the U.S Embassy of Ireland, presented their October event Innovaters with a particular emphasis on creative, business and technological innovations in an ever-changing media landscape. Madeline Di Nonno, the Chief Executive Officer of the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media, introduced GD-IQ, a tool that employs video-and audio-recognition technology, along with algorithms, to identify gender, speaking time and additional details about characters presented in films, television shows and other media. Madeline used GD-IQ to analyse 2 Irish films, Brooklyn and Room. The software, called the Geena Davis Inclusion Quotient (or GD-IQ), speeds up and automates the painstaking data-collection process that researchers use to study representation, a key initiative in recent years as the entertainment industry has begun to focus on equity onscreen. http://filmireland.net/ http://wft.ie/

Part I is here http://filmireland.net/2016/08/02/inconversation-with-michael-lavelle-part-i/ Michael is a graduate of the National Film School of Ireland and an award-winning writer, director and cinematographer. He won the World Cinematography Award for Documentary at Sundance 2010 for His and Hers, his debut feature documentary as a DOP. The Sundance jurors singled out the cinematography “for its Vermeer like qualities and formal restraint in conveying the power of ordinary emotional lives”. He was also the DOP on the multi-award winning short film Undressing My Mother, which screened at Cannes, was highly commended at Sundance and went on to win the European Academy Award for Best Short Film in 2005.Patrick’s Day, his first dramatic feature as DOP, received its world premiere at SXSW2014. The film went on to win Best Feature at Galway Film Fleadh and Best Film at Woodstock Film Festival where Michael w
