We're BACK and better than ever! In our first episode of 2018, Felicia and Rachel catch up on all the things. We recap how our 2017 went-- the highs, the lows, and everything in between. We're rested and ready for everything that this new year has to throw at us. We also spend some time previewing some exciting things on the horizon for She Geeks Out for the next few months. Welcome to our last episode of the year! We'll be taking a little break, but will join you in 2018. Our last episode features Emily Green, who received her MSE in Computer Science in 1981 and ever since has led a completely bad ass life, running several companies and now coaches other CEOs. She's also an author and is on the board of several organizations. Emily has a warm heart, great stories, and is yet another wonderful human we were grateful to spend some quality time with. Noelle LaCharite is not just any technical program manager. She's the technical program manager for Amazon AND a mom of four AND founder of a few organizations that promote kindness and mindful leadership AND a recent owner of a farm because the rest wasn't enough. We were in awe of Noelle's story and we have some suspicions that she's a robot. Bonita Burke is the definition of a 'woman in STEM'. She has a PhD in Plasma and High Temperature Physics, and currently works as a physicist for MIT's Lincoln Laboratory. Dr. Huong Diep, Licensed Clinical Psychologist with a focus on transgender youth, returns for a second interview because we had so much to cover the first time around, we knew we had to invite her back. Allison Esposito is the definition of a ladyboss. She left a full time job at Google to build and run Tech Ladies, a robust and worldwide community of 15,000+ women who work in tech. That's massive! We talk to Allison about what inspired her to start Tech Ladies, how to get women jobs, and what's in store for the community. Oh yeah, and we also chat a little bit about that Google memo. Banu Özkazanç-Pan is Associate Professor of Management at UMass Boston, and Director of the new Early Educator Innovation Lab and Accelerator also at UMass Boston. Her extensive work on gender, entrepreneurship, both locally and internationally, is, to put it mildly, impressive. Krys Burnette is, in a word, lovely. She's a consultant for the OMG amazing company August Public, which helps companies find effective ways to create and manage important change. Diversity and inclusion are top of mind in all things. We recorded this on the heels of the inauguration and women's march (sigh), so politics easily crept in. There were no disagreements here on how things went. Diversity and inclusion is clearly more important now than ever.
