Aadil’s lost in the frozen north so Ben and Lucy get together to toast his memory. Actually they talk about what they’ve been playing and discuss the games they are looking forward to in 2018. They also discuss a 2017 article from Boak and Bailey on ‘The Seven Ages of Beer Geek?’ To start they kick off with collab beers. This week, Adam & Alfred kick off by discussing 3 things they are excited about in 2018, the Three Kingdoms Era of China gets a mention and one of your hosts has finally played Grand Theft Auto V… He’s only 5 years late to the party but oh well. 2017 was a crazy year for games so we chat about our favourites. Lucy’s got a top ten and several honourable mentions whilst Aadil and Ben have top fives. We really get into it but of course stray along the way. What do we drink? We start with the Good Chemistry ‘Bonne Chance’, drink both the ‘Rest In Peace’ and ‘Roundhouse Kick’ from Crew Republic which was kindly gifted to us from Nico, aka Bobthron, and finish with a couple of cans of ‘Let It Happen’ from Whiplash.

This week’s shorter than usual episode of the Rattle On Podcast  Alfred & Adam fall out, but also don’t? From criminal intent to Mother Russia Bleeds and the brilliance of Devolver Digital. Finally South Park to comedy writing. We drank a few beers before starting but as we record we have To Ol ‘Dangerously close to stupid amount of apricots’ Imperial IPA, the Left Handed Giant ‘Late night fist fight’ APA and the ‘Sorachi’ black IPA from Arbor.

The chat starts with the new sequel/expansion of the swipey-monarch game: Reigns – Her Majesty. We talk about Metroid: Samus Returns, the wonder/pain of 3D, the best mario, Doki Doki Literature Club, Marvel’s Netflix series, Emperor Doom. Aadil and Ben start off with the “Wylam” session IPA ‘Swipe Right. They go on to have ‘Missing Piece’ IPA collaboration between “Cloud Water” and “Pilcro” before moving on to the ‘Button Masher’ black IPA, from “Electric Bear & Elusive brewing.” Lucy starts off with the ‘Collabaggedon ’17’, from “Weird Beard” and six other brewers. She then takes on the ‘Saison Miel’ from “Left Hand Brewing”, finishing off with the ‘I Scream for you Bruce’ pale ale from “Weird Beard”.

We talk about the new Play link game “Knowledge is Power”, “Dishonored 2”, “Hellblade”, the latest fundraising for “Star Citizen”, how Cloudwater is facing eviction from their current location, tax breaks, inheriting virtual libraries and some other stuff besides. Ben and Aadil start off with the ‘Pale 31’ pale ale from “Firestone Walker”. We follow it up with the “Cloudwater” Saison ‘Tettnanger’, finishing off with the “Left-handed Giant” & “Track” collaboration kettle sour ‘Devil Berry’. Look out for Aadil’s oven-roasted Temari Almonds response.

Everyone does the Macarena. We drink three different pairings from the recent Beer 52 x Anders Elements project. We chat different ingredient changes, yeast, malts and hops and how this effects the taste of a beer. Lots of beer chat ensues then onto gamez. Ben’s got a PS4 and played the demo of Wolfenstein 2. Oh shit demos remember them. Lucy’s played some indie games, of course she has, and chats about ‘Far From Noise’ which leads to game length chats. Aadil owns Star Wars Battlefront 2 but hasn’t played it. Talk moves to the age old question “Are loot boxes gambling” and we actually disagree on something.

It’s the fifth episode! And nothing happens! Adam & Alfred try to talk about the Infinity War trailer, but Alfred gets distracted by theorising how this third Avengers film might setup Sony’s Venom film. Then the boys try to discuss The Punisher series but Alfred derails things once more by talking about… We don’t know what. BUT it is a bit funny from time to time. This episode, Adam & Alfred rattle on about the Doctor’s new costume, EA buying Respawn, Disney’s announcement that a new Star Wars Trilogy is already in the works. Plus we answer an excellent “get to know us” question and catch up with our activities over the weekend.

This week is a very special episode we sit down with Alan and Zoe from Brewgooder, the craft brewery that donates 100% of their profits to clean water projects. Their goal is to provide clean water to 1,000,000 people and they have done it for over 40,000 people already. Inspiring stuff! Also we talk about the family history of Streets of Rage, the life-changing wonder that is the N64, Hellblade, GTA San Andreas, amazing soundtracks e.g. GTA Vice City and, of course, Streets of Rage. #rageheads We all enjoy a few of the ‘Clean Water’ lager by, of course, Brewgooder.

This week Aadil does a mini-roundup of mobile games, courtesy of hours of travel. We chat “A Good Snowman is Hard to Build”, “Concrete Jungle”, “Dropsy” along with a couple smaller games like “Wolfenstein II” and “Super Mario Odyssey”. Lucy drinks the ‘Body Riddle’ pale ale from “Whiplash”. Aadil goes for the ‘Don’t Mess with Yorkshire’ ale from “Northern Monk”. And Ben goes for the hefty 11.2% ‘Backwards Bastard’ aged in bourbon oak barrels ale by “Founders”.

In the second episode of the Rattle On Podcast, Adam & Alfred some how make nearly two hours of content out of nothing. Well not quite nothing… There’s some trailers from trailers from Sony, some news about maybe a new DC film and some more information about the closure of Visceral Games and the cancellation of their Star Wars Game. Well we tried. This is two pods mashed together. The first is a beer each and a discussion on Spec Ops: The Line between Ben, Lucy and Aadil. This then runs into a second podcast recorded the week before. In it Ben had to leave because of a screaming child and then a computer reboot, unscheduled, lost his audio. So, it’s Lucy talking about Cuphead, Aadil talking about Road Redemption and then pure chaos because Aadil and Lucy were unsupervised. Enjoy.

It’s Paris Games Week and Sony have thrown a lot of information out there and in their own words ‘E3 was only half the story.’ Ben and Dave run through the pre-show and media showcase giving their thoughts on the announcements, trailers, and the games shown. Also this is it. The end of an era for XFire and the final episode. But don’t worry as Ben and Dave will be back to talk all the Playstation news and views on a weekly basis soon with a new show, to be announced soon.
