Sinopse
In October of 2015, Mike Erre launched the VOX Podcast upon a season of struggling with the church's efforts to represent who Jesus is, what he's done, and what he is doing on this earth today. Committed to Talk About Anything, Mike quickly engaged into many of culture's most challenging conversations around the LGBTQ community, American politics, church politics, and Christian culture's catastrophe of marginalizing the very people that Jesus himself would associate with.Learn more at www.voxpodcast.com

Okokok. Sheila and Rebecca walk everyone through the data they've collected regarding the Church's historical messages to women regarding sexuality, self worth and their roles with men. Purity culture isn’t as explicit today but did it work? How did the church lie about this? Where was consent? How did/does purity culture hurt men? What are the biological differences between men and women? Why threats and bribes to encourage abstinence? What is internalized misogyny? How has evangelical teachings about sex limited a woman’s ability to stand up for herself? How have they caused women to marry abusers??? Sheila and Rebecca can be found

For example, what message from Genesis do the author's want us to walk away with? How do these stories operate? How are these stories told and how are they to be received? Which lenses do we use from our seats in 2023?? How do the authors communicate who God is within these stories and who is the actual villain??? It's a great conversation with a great new friend. How does it differ from what we grew up with? Why is it often personified? How does Heath Ledger's Joker from The Dark Knight fit in? What is forgiveness? What is salvation?? What is the Gospel??? 10/04/2023 Duração: 58minTime After Time. Welcome back to the Book of Revelation. Today, we look at time and how John speaks about it and uses it in the letter. How are we to see and process the present age and the age to come? How do we interact with the overlap? What does it ask of us? What is the Now and Not Yet to temporal beings? How is this framing of time inconsistent with how we've grown with this book? What does it suppose about baptism...? How many folks would like a series on the disciplines? A better understanding of them and what they are asking of us? As always, we encourage and would love discussion as we pursue. 397 - God & Guns: Lament For Another School Shooting
03/04/2023 Duração: 01h23minThere was another school shooting in Tennessee last week. Evelyn Dieckhaus, 9; Mike Hill, 61; William Kinney, 9; Katherine Koonce, 60; Cynthia Peak, 61; and Hallie Scruggs, 9. Mike walks us through the event itself, scripture being bastardized in response and what the Bible actually says about violence. Lord, we grieve so heavily, again, over this loss of precious and innocent life. We pray that their communities would come alongside them, love and sit with them. We pray that we do not grow calloused and accepting of this continuing and escalating violence. Father, we ask that you would soften the hearts and open the eyes of your people. That they would see this violence for what it is. That they would choose life and the edification of humanity over rights and tools of destruction Father, we pray that you would give courage and integrity to those we have chosen to lead. Give them discernment and clarity, wisdom and empathy. Father, allow them to see these tragedies for what they are and to act according

27/03/2023 Duração: 01h07minTell Her Story. Dr. Nijay Gupta joins Mike and Tim to discuss his new book, "Tell Her Story: How Women Led, Taught, and Ministered in the Early Church." First, Dr. Gupta talks about his own journey and study. If women can’t be trusted with teaching or leading at church, why should they be trusted teaching other women or children? Did the first century understand terms like patriarchy? How does Paul speak about his ministry associates, Phoebe, Prisca, and Junia? Why Mary as the caretaker of the Messiah? How do ideas of status and gender relate? How have we taken our own patriarchal structures and superimposed them onto scripture? As always, we encourage and would love discussion as we pursue. Welcome to another mini series of The Wanderer, this time focused on trying to understand and define worship. Each episode will look at the history of a particular Hymn and its origin story, how it may have roots in Justice and what it may encourage us to participate in today. Further, every episode will end with a recorded version of the song by Tim, to listen to after walking through the song's history. This week, a well known oft sung Hymn and one of Tim's favorites: "Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing." What was Robert Robinson's (Bob) journey? While this isn't a justice oriented song as the others have been, what can we glean? How does scripture in form the lyrics? What's an Ebenezer?? How did his own song come back to minister to himself? Tim covers some of the history, but not all. Bob had a long journey that was fraught with turmoil. He had a long ministry that many loved but ostracized

Mike takes us on a journey through the 'centered' approach and how 'Church discipline' should look more like a reorientation to the center. Tim asks questions about the church model and how it is built to set up Pastors for failure. How can we better change the model? How can the chasm or wall built between the public and private self be dismantled so that Pastors can share vulnerability and struggle more openly? How does the performative nature of Church feed this? How does capitalism?? How has a woman's sexuality been framed? How was a woman's relation to a man set up? What trauma does this all bring into a relationship? How does it continue in the marriage? What about for men? How has this imbalanced dichotomy effected men's understanding of their own sexuality? How does it effect the way men, the Church and society view and treat women? What does the Bible say? 390 - Revelation - Part Three: Apocalypse
13/02/2023 Duração: 01h19minRevelation - Part Three: Apocalypse. This episode, Mike and Tim begin a conversation on 'genre,' and how the original audience understood and entered into the 'apocalyptic literature' of Revelation. How does the first sentence set up the book? What are we to understand from the time period? How does time itself inform how we approach Revelation? How is the Bible like a Barnes & Noble or any bookstore? How have we done a disservice to the text with a linear approach? First, Mike and Tim discuss an email asking about the "He Gets Us" ad campaign that will feature during the Super Bowl. Is this how "evangelism" should look? Would Jesus use this approach? Is more eyes on Jesus a good or bad thing, especially in a commercial setting? And Tim shares some Tim's Troubled Times over extreme conservatives who are attacking schools and why did Trump execute three times as many people during his Presidency that the US had in the last 60 years? Characteristics of Apocalyptic Literature: 1. P

This week, it is what is most likely the most famous and well known song of all time: "Amazing Grace." What is the history of this song? How has it lasted so long? Why is it so popular? Tim covers some of the history, but not all. There was Newton being exiled himself, his father rescuing him. The relationship between himself and William Cowper, William Wilberforce... William Walker (so many Williams...). The Second Great Awakening, Dwight Moody... There is so much to cover. But the main piece is, what is Grace? How does it inf

How do we begin to change this narrative in America? What does the Institute for American Policing Reform do? How can we help? Mike and Tim begin with an email critique of their condescending tone towards dispensationalism from the previous episode. And, Seth! 388 - Revelation - Part Two: Left Behind
30/01/2023 Duração: 01h08minRevelation Part Two: Left Behind. Today, Mike takes us on a journey through a few hot button, five cent words: Dispensationalism! Tribulation! Rapture! The Millennium! How have we gotten to where we are with the prophetic, futurist view we have of Revelation? What do all these terms mean? How did they become all encompassing with our understanding of the book? How do we detach from all of that to see what is really being said? Mike and Tim spend the first part of the episode discussing a listener email that prompts a conversation about why bad things happen to faithful people. Does God really bring good from all things? Does God allow or prompt evil so that good may prevail? What are we to do with sickness and tragedy? As always, we encourage and would love discussion as we pursue.
