Citadel Grayline

Dr. W.G. Watson ('31) is the Band of Gold Spotlight.  The 100-year-old Augusta, Ga., doctor is the oldest practicing physician in the U.S., and he shares memories of being at The Citadel from 1927-31.  Also, Jeff Hartsell talks about the Chattanooga debacle.  We also hear from Kevin Higgins, running back Christian Robertson and defensive end Milford Scott. 

The Citadel Family Association's Dorie Griggs and Dr. Craig Cleveland explain the various ways their volunteer group assists with cadets and their parents.    Plus, Kevin Higgins answers questions from Jeff Hartsell, as the Bulldogs look to get back in the win column with the Parents' Weekend 2010 game against Chattanooga.

The Dogs fall at Furman and now prepare to host Western Carolina.  Kevin Higgins gives us his thoughts on his football team, which seeks its first SoCon win on Saturday.   Also, Medal of Honor recipient Brian Thacker shares his story of service in Vietnam.    Thacker is among several Medal of Honor recipients participating in this weekend's events on The Citadel campus, as part of the annual Medal of Honor Society Convention.

Terrell Dallas, the junior fullback who rushed for 172 yards against Presbyterian, talks to GrayLine after the 26-14 win.   We also hear from Bulldogs coach Kevin Higgins, LS Bobby Jarvis and DE Erik Clanton.   Plus, Fred Ducker ('63) is the Band of Gold Spotlight.  Ducker helps spotlight The Citadel's 1,000 football games.

Arizona blasts The Citadel in Tucson.  Jeff Hartsell of The Post and Courier recaps the 52-6 loss; and we look ahead to this weekend's home game against Presbyterian College.  Also, Jon Rawl and Jim Waddill put the Citadel Blue & White Spotlight on The Citadel Regimental Band and its Pipe Band, which just returned from performing at the 2010 Tattoo in Edinburgh, Scotland.

Jack Douglas is the Band of Gold Spotlight.  The 1992 graduate and Citadel Hall of Famer recalls his playing days during the early '90s; plus we hear what No. 14 is doing now in Columbia.   Also, Jeff Hartsell gives us the scoop on the Dogs' performance against Chowan, and we preview this Saturday's 2,055 mile-long trip to Tucson, Ariz., and a battle against the No. 23 Arizona Wildcats.

Kevin Higgins answers Jeff Hartsell's burning question on this fall debut of Citadel GrayLine.  So coach, who will the starting quarterback be?   Plus, Jon Rawl and Jim Waddill preview the home opener against Chowan, and salute the 2010 SoCon baseball champs.

Spring Finale.  The Diamond Dogs look to capture the SoCon regular season title this weekend in Statesboro as they play at Georgia Southern.   We get Jeff Hartsell's take on the 2010 football schedule, and South Carolina lieutenant governor hopeful Bill Connor ('90) drops by to share the latest with his campaign.

Chuck Driesell becomes The Citadel's 28th head basketball coach.    We hear athletic director Larry Leckonby, Driesell, and senior guard Cameron Wells at the hiring press conference.   Also, Andre Roberts is the 88th pick overall in the NFL Draft, and heads out west to the Arizona Cardinals.   The Band of Gold Spotlight is Klaus Schoening ('64), owner of Strategic Financial Concepts in Greenville, S.C.

Lee Glaze evaluates the current litter of Diamond Dogs, which just swept Furman in SoCon play.  The 1986 Citadel grad also reminisces about his teammates on Chal Port's 1980s teams.   Plus, Jeff Hartsell has the latest on The Citadel's search for a new head basketball coach.

Sam Evans ('78), the Bulldogs' longtime public address announcer and the school's publications editor, is this week's Band of Gold Spotlight.   Jeff Hartsell has the latest with the basketball coaching search, as assistant coach Doug Novak departs Charleston to join Ed Conroy at Tulane.   Plus, the football team finally announces a defensive coordinator.

Randy Bresnik ('89) is the Band of Gold Spotlight.   He tells us about his recent mission on the space shuttle Atlantis, as well as his cadet days in the late '80s.    Jeff Hartsell has the latest on rumors concerning basketball chief Ed Conroy possibly leaving for another job.  Also, we get a spring football practice report, and a briefing on the SoCon-leading Citadel baseball team.    

Coaches continue to jump ship from the football program--two in the last week.  Jeff Hartsell has the details, as well as info on the latest arrest in the Starks-Rice robbery cases.  The Dogs sit atop the SoCon baseball standings, after sweeping Western Carolina in the opening weekend of conference action.   Plus, Connie Tuza ('58) discusses The Citadel Football Association's upcoming CFA-Kevin Higgins Golf Tournament.  

Aaron Tippin, country music star and Citadel fan, talks about the free concert he is giving at McAlister Field House on Friday.   On the blues front, The Citadel basketball team's season ends with a loss to Appalachian State in the SoCon Tourney, and former quarterback Miguel Starks is charged with a second armed robbery.

Miguel Starks has been charged with the armed robbery of football assistant and Citadel grad Josh Harpe.   Jeff Hartsell has the details of the unfolding case, which also involves former Bulldog linebacker Reggie Rice.   We hear the reactions of both Kevin Higgins and athletic director Larry Leckonby.   Plus, the Bulldog basketball team heads to the SoCon Tourney in Charlotte, and the baseball team plays at Hawaii.
