Hey Family, 2018 has been a great year for the Recovery House of Worship. We've seen people come to Christ and grow in Christ. We've started to prepare a deacon board of men and women, young and old, black, white, and Latino. We've been able to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, house the homeless, and provide service to the addict. In 2019 we're going to continue to do this. I hope to see you here this Sunday as we talk about the spirit in which we do this kind of service, surrender unto Christ, and love one another that we're called to do in the scriptures. I can't wait to see you at 10 a.m. this Sunday.

Hey Family, This Christmas season we’ve been looking at some of the most powerful women that the world has ever known--women who were filled with flaws and yet changed the course of history. We’re going to continue in this series, The Real Women of Christmas, and this week we look at Bathsheba. God used her tragedy not to identify her but to give her a different identity. That new identity is going to outlast time. Invite a friend! And don’t forget that this Sunday we will be making our special 53rd offering to Eradicate Bible Poverty. Every cent you offer to God will go toward translating the scriptures into the six minority languages of China. --Edwin

For many, Christmas is a time of great joy and celebration, a time for buying gifts and receiving people into your home. But if we're honest, we know that Christmas isn't always joyful for some. Come this Sunday as we continue in our series called The Real Women of Christmas and look at the life of a woman named Ruth. We'll discover how God brings joy into Christmas, and how He is his very own gift.

Our faith produces action. It moves us from place to place, as we trust in the one in whom we place our faith. God promises are "yes" and "amen," and His love remains unconditional--but his blessings are conditional. Jesus says, abide in me and you will produce much fruit. Join us this week as we see what will be revealed next.

Hey Family, There's a monster lurking in the shadows who only gets bigger and scarier as we do nothing about it. The name of the monster is PROCRASTINATION, and the results can be catastrophic for your education, your marriage, keeping promises, or your work. The ancients were wise to list procrastination (sloth) as one of the deadly sins, because it really does kill our joy. Hey Family, As a pastor I’ve heard more confessions than the Brooklyn DA. Whenever anyone is confessing something, they’re always sharing their greatest shame, their darkest secret, their deepest hurt. I can’t tell you how many times this has happened, but inevitably the secret, the hurt, the shame . . . has to do with sex. This week we’re going to be diving into a topic that surrounds us every day. What with hookups, friends with benefits, and casual dating apps, this subject is becoming more and more prevalent in our hearts, in our lives, and in society. This week we will deal with the issue of lust. Lust can be considered much more broadly than just having to do with sex, and we’ll be discussing all the things that we can lust after. We will approach this very sensitive subject not by looking at our feelings or our culture, but at God’s word. Hey Family, I used to love a song called “Constant Craving” by k.d. lang. But now I listen to it with a different ear. It could be the theme song of many of our lives. There's a craving that we have, a yearning for the thing that makes us feel good. Many times it can be food, other times it can be alcohol, but whatever craving it is, it leads us to the very sin that we're going to talk about this week. How do we shake the bad habits, break the strongholds of bondage that keep us in sin, and find joy in Christ, when all our hearts long for is the constant craving? Hey Family, What’s wrong with our marriages? What’s wrong with our church? What’s wrong with our society? What’s wrong with the politicians? These questions come up for every one of us when we reflect on the brokenness not only in our lives but the brokenness we see around us. The answer to these very profound questions is equally profound but very short. The answer is: SIN. Sin is what’s wrong with us. Sin is what’s wrong with our marriages. Sin is what’s wrong with our church, our society, our politicians. And sin is what’s wrong with the world. In this new series, Kill Joy, we’re going to turn to the gospel to investigate how sin can ruin our lives and see what the remedy could be. The answer isn’t just stop doing it. As our "Hard Sayings of Jesus" series draws to a close, come on Sunday to learn what Jesus meant when he said it was harder for a camel to fit through the eye of a needle than it is for a rich person to get into Heaven. Think you're not rich? Wrong.

Hey Family, Last week we were reminded of what the gospel says about judging other people, and how important it is to address the condition and issues of our own hearts. If we accept the forgiveness and healing that Jesus holds out to us, those same feelings should overflow from us onto those we tend to be critical about. This Sunday as we continue with our summer series, "Hard Sayings of Jesus," we get to one of the most abrasive statements our 21st-century ears can hear: "Repent or perish." These words conjure up images of subway preachers who are yelling at us to turn or burn. But come this Sunday to find out how this is actually one of the most loving phrases that Jesus ever used, and how full of mercy it is but how abused the phrase has become. Hey Family, In every society there's a concept that everybody agrees is negative, that offends everyone who hears it. In our culture, it's the concept that other people have the right to judge us. The idea that someone else would pronounce moral rightness or wrongness on anything that we're doing is abhorrent to us. That's where the saying "Don't judge me" started. This Sunday, as we continue with our series HARD SAYINGS OF JESUS, we'll find out what the Bible says on judging. I think you'll be surprised at how much more piercing and profound Jesus's statement about judging is than what we think about in our society. What is the one sin that will not be forgiven? Jesus tells us very plainly. As with all these hard sayings of Jesus, when we understand them, we realize that Jesus is telling us these things out of his great love. He came to earth to seek and save the lost.
