Patience reveals a LOT of human nature. Are we self centered? Others Centered? God centered? How do we get it without going crazy when we have to practice it…do we really want it in the first place? James concludes his letter with a passage on patience, what we should do AND what we shouldn’t do with it! Now…the real question is, “Who REALLY wants it?

James chapter 4 hits heavy on the world, and the heart. God says that He wants our whole heart, and we live in a world that is constantly competing with our heart. If our hearts aren’t focused on Him, then it can cause pride, which leads to conflict, which ultimately leads to a life that is self centered and not Jesus centered. James talks about how to set the eyes of your heart on Godly things, and how to keep the main thing the main thing!

The Tongue can be an amazing thing for praise, worship, affirmation, and power…but it also can be poison, hurtful, poison, destructive… James outlines the power of the tongue and how as followers of Jesus we have an INCREDIBLE tool at our disposal, so let's learn how to use it the way God intended.

Faith without works is dead… That’s a VERY bold statement that James makes in James 2, but what does he mean? Is he saying that if you don’t do “works,” then you have no faith? Is he saying that you have to do something in order to be saved? Theologians have argued about this for years…why do we act on faith, and what does it mean if we profess to have faith but do nothing about it??? Today we will unpack what James is talking about in chapter 2 of his letter.

“Are you listening? Did you hear me?” At some point we have either said or heard this, and it is usually asked because an instruction was given…and then not followed through on. James addressed this type of behavior in scripture, and calls for people to be both “Listeners and Doers” of the Word. It’s one thing to read about scripture and hear from God, but are we ready to actually DO everything he tells us to…or what just feels comfortable to do?

The testing of our faith through trials, adversity, suffering, etc… produces in us a steadfast spirit and perseverance. And perseverance is an invaluable characteristic of those who follow Christ.

Religion often has a BAD connotation to it, but yet we often talk about being a part of a religion. What if we looked at what we do as a RELATIONSHIP instead of a religion? That changes everything! Today we kick off a study of the book of James, and we will look at what he means when he talks about having a “True Religion” in our walk with his half-brother, Jesus.

When we are working on how we are following Jesus everyone walk is going to look a little different, but there are principles that we can all apply that help us grow. Something that scripture makes clear is that we were designed to move forward TOGETHER. Large groups, small groups, so much more than just a Sunday morning! Today we unpack what it looks like to defend, grow, cheer, and hurt with one another. Community is huge and we were called to grow ours with Jesus and each other!

GPS is a wonderful thing that allows us to get from point A to point B quickly and efficiently, but sometimes we don’t follow it because “we know better.” How often does this work? We look at life sometimes and think we know best, when in reality the bible lays out a strong foundation for our every day living. We have to decide the consume the word daily and follow it instead of ourselves, and see how the LIVING and ACTIVE Word of God is crucial for everyday living.

Have you even noticed that when something is far away it looks VERY different than when it is close up? Our relationship with Jesus is the same way. If we keep Him distant and only see Him from afar, then we are missing out on so much he has to offer our lives. This week we will explore the Heart of Heaven, and what happens when we decide to move closer to Jesus, and how that changes everything!

Anxiety. The almighty google says, anxiety is “intense, excessive, and persistent worry and fear about everyday situations.” Join us as Stephanie Warford shares with us about how Love Reigns Over our Future and our worries.

It is the love of God that caused Jesus to endure the cross, and it is the love of God that forgives us our past. Love reigns in our lives. Today we continue this series by taking a look at how love reigns over our present. Because of God’s great mercy, we can live lives that honor Him.

Jesus Christ demonstrated his love for humanity by sacrificially giving his life on the cross and resurrecting from the dead. Because of this incredible act of love, those who are in Christ have become new creations. All of our past mistakes, sins, and miscues have been covered by the blood of Jesus. Our past no longer has the last word and final say over our lives. We have been given a fresh start. We have been reconciled to God and we, in turn, can give hope to others by making an appeal for God’s forgiving love to them as well.

Love can cause us to do crazy things. All throughout history people have expressed their love for another in crazy ways from over the top declarations, to countries waging war on each other. But non of this compares to the love that God showed when His son conquered the cross, defeating death, and bridging the gap that sin had divided! Today we will see how the God rules, and how His love reigns!
