  • Episode 301- Night of the Creeps (1986)

    05/10/2020 Duração: 52min

In this week's episode, we finally get back to a real actual horror movie! It's everything that you loved (and hated) about the 1980s, all wrapped up in one- we're talking about the 1986 film "Night of the Creeps." Special topics for your consideration include: a love letter to Dick Miller, one love letter and one not-so-love letter to Tom Atkins, a movie mashup mixtape, another appearance of police departments with flamethrowers AND WHY?!, and Brad: ultimate 80s villain guy. Sorry I said I don't like Tom Atkins. I just don't think he's a sex symbol, don't @ me. Want to be thrilled by him? Check out Episode 21- "Creepshow" (an uncredited role), Episode 52- "Halloween III: Season of the Witch," Episode 129- "The Fog" and Episode 198- "My Bloody Valentine 3D."  Hey, we have a Patreon AND our second action movie episode is out now-- "Terminator"! • Episode 300- 300 (2007)

    28/09/2020 Duração: 01h53s

In this week's episode, EPISODE THREE HUNDRED, can you even believe it?, we are discussing the obvious choice for one's tricentennial: the 2007 film "300." No, it's not a horror movie. Yes, it's a gimmicky choice. No, those abs aren't real. Other special topics for your consideration include: stabbing, a startling lack of planning by the God King and also by the regular King, building a giant pit to nowhere, more stabbing and a hearty reminder to tell your loved ones that they are your loved ones. Hey guys, thanks for being with us through 300 episodes and here's to 300 more. We love you. Gerard Butler has been in a surprising number of horror movies and we've done exactly zero of them, though I was absolutely convinced he was the lead in "Midnight Meat Train." Turns out that's Bradley Cooper?! Whatever. You can listen to it anyway, it's Episode 150, which is exactly one half our podcast ago!   Hey, we have a Patreon AND our second action movie episode will be out this week-- "Terminator"! • Episode 299- I'm Thinking of Ending Things (2020)

    21/09/2020 Duração: 01h01min

In this week's episode, we get what we deserve for trying to figure out what the internet is talking about with the new Netflix original film "I'm Thinking of Ending Things." Special topics for your consideration include: Jared Leto's poetry Tumblr, that football tv show, another patron saint of Werewolf Ambulance, our inner cynicism and musicals: a deal breaker? Toni Collette, if you're out there? You're the best. Get your fix of Toni with Episode 61- "Krampus," Episode 157- "The Sixth Sense," Episode 220- "Velvet Buzzsaw" and Episode 224- "Hereditary." • Episode 298- Jawbreaker (1999)

    14/09/2020 Duração: 56min

In this week's episode, we're discussing a movie in Katie's wheelhouse that is decidedly not a horror movie, Shudder be damned. It's the 1999 teen film about the horrors of...popularity? It's "Jawbreaker." Special topics for your consideration include: the sadness of rewatching a movie of your youth and realizing it's actually not great at all, Tawny Kitaen and how to learn more about her, how the minds of popular kids actually work, the patron saints of this podcast (ex: Judy Greer) and a shocking dearth of references to the band Jawbreaker.  Want more Judy Greer? Check out Episode 169- "The Village." More Rose McGowan? Episode 44- "Scream." Rebecca Gayheart? Episode 221- "Urban Legend." Carol Kane?! Episode 30- "Office Killer."  Hey, we have a Patreon AND our first action movie episode is already out! • Episode 297- Host (2020)

    07/09/2020 Duração: 50min

In this week's episode, we lean hard into the pandemic and manage to make a 50 minute episode about a 56 minute movie which, my friends, is absolutely a skill we should put on our LinkedIn profiles. We're talking about the 2020 film "Host" and some special topics for your consideration include: whether we would or would not seance, revisiting hard drinking again only to feel awful, the trials and tribulations of Zoom, trying to remember the film "Unfriended" and our trash memories striking again.  If you enjoy films that take place on the internet, you may enjoy Episode 48- "Unfriended." If you like charming British women, you could do much worse than Episode 116- "The Descent." Hey, we have a Patreon AND our first action movie episode is already out! Check it out at https://www.patreon.com/werewolfambulance to see what supporting us can do for you. And hey, we have a subreddit! We're embracing it! • Episode 296- Paranormal Activity 3 (2011)

    31/08/2020 Duração: 56min

Because we can never reliably be trusted to do things in a way that makes sense, this week we're tackling 2011's third installment in the "Paranormal Activity" franchise without having ever seen the second. Special topics for your consideration include: having your home be haunted by a demon with perverted tendencies, a Bloody Mary epidemic, an extremely special visit from friend of the podcast Dan, a little behind-the-scenes of us watching the neighborhood and the return of deja-viewing. If you'd like to hear us talk about one other film in the series, you can hear the original "Paranormal Activity" in Episode 83. If you'd like to hear about some other movies that I've deja-viewed, you can try out Episode 79- "Prince of Darkness" and Episode 203- "Grave Encounters." Frankly, I'm sure there are more but I predictably can't remember them.  Hey, we have a Patreon AND our first action movie episode dropped today! Check it out at https://www.patreon.com/werewolfambulance to see what supporting us can do for you.

  • Episode 295- Pieces (1982)

    24/08/2020 Duração: 48min

First, you must know that Allen chose this film. Of course you already knew that. Second, holy ghost, what a movie. We're discussing the 1982 American-Spanish-Puerto Rican slasher "Pieces." Special topics for your consideration include: not having a real solid grasp on whether this is a comedy or just riddled with errors, a new classic food combo that we just invented, confusing the psychic women of Italian cinema and the fact that this movie has it all (if by "it all" you mean professors of kung fu, cops that are also tennis stars, grey-haired Ken dolls, the inferior Chris George, a groundskeeper with a bad attitude, terrible skateboarding AND someone else's keys!) If you'd like to hear more about the inferior Christopher George, check out Episode 248- "Grizzly" and Episode 281- "City of the Living Dead." If you'd like to hear from the superior Christopher George, you can hear him as a guest on Episode 207- "The Mummy." Hey, we have a Patreon! • Episode 294- Leprechaun (1993)

    17/08/2020 Duração: 01h01min

In this week's episode, we're covering the request of one of our lovely subredditors, AbstrvctH3lga-- 1993's "Leprechaun," truly a film that launched a thousand shits. Special topics for your consideration include: recording outside with weed whackers, leaf blowers, barking dogs, chatty neighbors, cool cars and so many cicadas, Jennifer Aniston's sartorial choices, contemplating how this film possibly got 400 sequels and living our best leaking dumpster fire lives.  I mean, go watch the other "Leprechauns" if you want but don't say we made you. They're Episode 39- "Leprechaun in the Hood" and Episode 263- "Leprechaun in Space." Hey, we have a subreddit! We're embracing it! • Episode 293- Happy Death Day (2017)

    10/08/2020 Duração: 48min

In this week's episode, we're venturing into the land of temporal loops with the 2017 slasher comedy "Happy Death Day." Special topics for your consideration include: talking about astrology with two people who know absolutely nothing about astrology, conflating a nutter butter and a fluffer nutter, the suspicions that arise when a person bakes only one cupcake, nightmare tunnels on college campuses and problematic films of our youth. Oh, and we're still outside. People sure do love to drive by! Are you extremely into horror movies that take place on college campuses? If so, you may enjoy Episode 113- "Black Christmas" or Episode 221- "Urban Legend." I was also about to suggest "Scream 2" because I was absolutely certain that we'd covered it but alas, it's still on the list. Hey, we have a subreddit! We're embracing it! Join us, or at least Katie (Allen's eyes don't work when it comes to Reddit) at r/werewolfambulance. Have you been thinking about buying a t-shirt but perhaps none of the designs spoke to you?

  • Episode 292- Green Room (2015)

    03/08/2020 Duração: 52min

In this week's edition of "look Ma, I'm outside!" we are back on the porch for the 2017 nazi jagoff horror thriller "Green Room." Special topics for your consideration include: loving Patrick Stewart whether or not he's trying on a southern accent, extremely well-placed gore, a cavalcade of punk rock memories, and dogs: inherently frightening but also owners of cute wiggly lil butts.   Into seeing Nazis get what they have coming to them? You might enjoy Episode 92- "Dead Snow." Also I am like 90% sure that Episode 164- "Puppet Master" had *something* to do with Nazis but honestly can't be bothered to look up what it was.  Hey, we have a subreddit! We're embracing it! • Episode 291- In the Tall Grass (2019)

    27/07/2020 Duração: 52min

Truly it had been too long since we tackled a Netflix original film, so this week we're discussing the 2019 Stephen King/Joe Hill adaptation "In the Tall Grass." Somewhat appropriately for a film about the horrors of the great outdoors, this episode was recorded on Allen's porch. Special topics for your consideration include: Stephen King Madlibs, an absolute need for Dwayne 'the Rock' Johnson, evil children and evil fields and evil dads-- these are a few of King's favorite things, the appearance of one of our favorite things (Australians playing Americans) and...what? Just what. Seriously, what? If you'd like to go back to the genesis of "Steven Kang," may we recommend Episode 66- "Thinner"? Or if you'd like a film about how being outdoors will probably kill you, how about Episode 15- "The Blair Witch Project"? Want to combine the two concepts and throw in some magic kids or something, just for good measure? Can't go wrong with Episode 59- "Children of the Corn." Hey, we have a subreddit! We're embracing it!

  • Episode 290- Chillaxin! with Jurassic Park (1993)

    20/07/2020 Duração: 57min

In this week's episode, we ventured into the great outdoors and recorded on Allen's front porch, so please be aware that you will hear some car noises and we also get distracted by several passersby. Look, it's summer, there's a pandemic, and we gotta chillax. It's okay though, because we're talking about the 1993 summer blockbuster hit "Jurassic Park." Is it a horror movie? Not really. Is it horrific? Yes, it is, who the hell wants to bring back dinosaurs? Special topics for your consideration include: menacing a child, being at one's Jeff Goldblum-iest, terrible body doubles, fantastic CGI and practical effects, not knowing much about raptors despite being obsessed with them and a little Clippy erotica. Pretty sure this is our fourth Jeff Goldblum (Episode 103- "The Fly," Episode 146- "The Sentinel" and Episode 230- "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" and our third Sam Neil (Episode 125- "Event Horizon" and Episode 142- "In the Mouth of Madness") but only our first Laura Dern. Welcome to the show, Laura Dern!

  • Episode 289- Crawl (2019)

    13/07/2020 Duração: 50min

In this week's edition of "well, it's a movie" we tackle the 2019 reptile thriller (?) "Crawl." Yowza. Special topics for your consideration include: a condemnation of Floridians, the high stakes world of out-swimming an alligator, deciding to inform your child from a young age that they are in fact an apex predator, things Barry Pepper knows about alligators and for gods sake, it's a BASEMENT. Into reptilian/amphibian horror? May we recommend Episode 24- "Grabbers" (it kinda counts!), Episode 152- "Anaconda" and Episode 238- "Frogs"?    Hey, we have a subreddit! We're embracing it! Join us, or at least Katie (Allen's eyes don't work when it comes to Reddit) at r/werewolfambulance.   Have you been thinking about buying a t-shirt but perhaps none of the designs spoke to you? Then we are certain you'll love our brand new design by the inimitable Justin Gray, "Close Enough, Lucio!" • Episode 288- The Crazies (2010)

    06/07/2020 Duração: 54min

In a very Britney Spears move...whoops, we did it again. Who knew "The Crazies" was about a virus?! We genuinely just thought it was about zombies. I guess this is why being fun is better than knowing things. Anyway, here we are: the 2010 remake of "The Crazies." Special topics for your consideration include: the Ogden Marsh Parking Authority's vehicle booting capabilities, extremely inconsistent symptoms of an illness, the possibility of simply having a lot on your plate, weapons available to one on a farm and Timothy Olyphant: a sheriff, and a particular face.  Everyone, thank you so much for helping us hit our goal raising money for the National Lawyers Guild. You are the best and we love you. The Romero movie was probably better. Enjoy some of his actual work with Episode 21- "Creepshow" and one of Katie's favorite all-time episodes, Episode 137- "Monkey Shines." Somehow we've also done another Romero remake with Episode 173- "Dawn of the Dead." Have you been thinking about buying a t-shirt but perhaps no

  • Episode 287- Child's Play (2019)

    29/06/2020 Duração: 42min

In this week's episode, we're going back to the well of one of Katie's favorite franchises with the 2019 remake of a classic, "Child's Play." Special topics for your consideration include: a stroll down toy memory lane, getting Detective Mike as your new dad, a compare and contrast of living with Chucky vs. a real life toddler, finding comedy in spraying a young child with blood, the bonkers marketing decisions made by the Buddi company and a love letter to Brad Dourif.  Our National Lawyers Guild fundraising drive to support Black Lives Matter ends TOMORROW, so if you have some wiggle room in your budget, please consider donating to them at nlg.org. • Episode 286- Knife + Heart (2018)

    22/06/2020 Duração: 59min

In this week's episode, we took on a listener request to review a queer horror film in honor of Pride month and sight unseen we selected the 2018 French film "Knife + Heart." Special topics for your consideration include: a very shame-filled upbringing, giallo tropes in action, a plea tothe universe for Pride parades, learning to type with other parts of your body and 'artsy fartsy' as a subcategory of aesthetics. Happy Pride month, everyone! Please don't forget to donate to National Lawyers Guild for our fundraising drive to support Black Lives Matter. All you have to do is donate to National Lawyers Guild (nlg.org) and forward us a receipt at werewolfambulance@gmail.com, send us a screenshot or tag us on social media. We'll be matching 10% of your donations and if we hit $2,500 in the month of June, I (Katie) will touch a horse. On video. We already have the horse lined up. • Episode 285- The Gravedancers (2006)

    15/06/2020 Duração: 59min

In this week's episode, we're tackling a listener suggestion from friend of the podcast Leah Ashley-- the absolutely horrendous 2006 supernatural horror film "The Gravedancers." THANKS A LOT. Special topics for your consideration include: smelling your partner's jacket just for funsies, knowing anything about Chopin, a surprising connection to "Bring it On," a very special listener mail and CULPEPPER! This episode also features an extremely great outro song by A. Wallis called "EMT." Seriously, we have the best listeners, hands down. • Episode 284- Weekend at Bernie's II (1993)

    08/06/2020 Duração: 47min

First, Black lives matter. We probably don't need to tell you, our wonderful listeners, but we're also trying to do some good with our platform. On that note, we're doing a fundraising drive: please donate to National Lawyers Guild (nlg.org) and forward us a receipt at werewolfambulance@gmail.com, send us a screenshot or tag us on social media. We'll be matching 10% of your donations and if we hit $2,500, I (Katie) will touch a horse. On video. We already have the horse lined up. On one hand, I want to raise a lot of money for a seriously good cause; on the other hand, I kind of want to faint when I think about actually touching a horse. Anyway, onto this week's episode. Yes, we know, we know, just because a movie has zombies does not make it a horror movie, but that's neither here nor there. This movie is actually horrifying. We're talking about the sequel to our most recent bonus episode, 1993's "Weekend at Bernie's II." Special topics for your consideration include: becoming a full-on sociopath overnight,

  • BONUS EPISODE #5- Weekend at Bernie's (1989)

    06/06/2020 Duração: 01h04min

I mean...why the hell not? In this brand new bonus episode, we're discussing the 1989 masterpiece (?) "Weekend at Bernie's." We hope you like it.

  • Episode 283- Elvira: Mistress of the Dark (1988)

    01/06/2020 Duração: 52min

In this week's episode, we are rolling around in a pile of bad jokes and misunderstandings with the 1988 horror (?) comedy "Elvira: Mistress of the Dark." Special topics for your consideration include: imagining a world in which Tim Burton directed this film, 1980s perverts, the concept of a Vegas show about nothing and surprisingly less titty bell than one might expect. Unpleasant dreams, EMTs! We have really never covered a film quite like this one. If you like it, you may also like Episode 274- "The Ghost and Mr. Chicken." Related, maybe check out some of our favorite horror comedies, including Episode 36- "Waxwork," Episode 144- "The Burbs" and Episode 236- "House." Have you been thinking about buying a t-shirt but perhaps none of the designs spoke to you? Then we are certain you'll love our brand new design by the inimitable Justin Gray, "Close Enough, Lucio!"
