My son had the nugget of an idea for a play about a man who loses his wedding ring at a bar while celebrating his anniversary with his wife, but he couldn’t think where to take the idea from there. Consequently, my son left that idea behind and went on to write a different play about a husband and wife who meet in Purgatory. The idea about the ring, however, stayed with me. I couldn’t stop thinking about the symbolic power that we ascribe to a wedding ring, and so I decided to push the idea of that power to an absurd level by making the power real rather than mer
