Have you ever thought about what sets the Church apart in times like these? What makes you and I (as God's people) genuinely different? Now, just so you know, I'm not talking about some unique "market share" in the world. Something that enables the Church to remain viable as an organization among competing entities. That's all nonsense! Instead, what I'm talking about is an existential difference. A difference that is real. One that has an actual impact on the here and now. In a way, I'm reflecting on holiness proper with this question. Last week I said that living by fear and not by faith would be to abdicate our responsibility for being set apart. After all, we are not people of the spirit of this world. We have not been given a spirit of fear (2 Timothy 1:7). Instead, we've been given a new Spirit, One of power, love, and discipline.
