Voices Of The Rising

This is the ninth episode in a series of audio stories from the Easter 1916 archives of the National Library of Ireland, Dublin, Ireland. The stories are narrated by Katherine McSharry, Head of Outreach with the National Library of Ireland and Irish voice artist Niall O Sioradáin. In this episode, Niall O Sioradáin reads from a letter written by Major George Malone who was in the 3rd Battalion of the Royal Irish Regiment, stationed at Richmond Barracks. On Easter Monday 1916, he had plans to meet his mother for dinner and a night at the theatre. Here, he tells us how the day unfolded very differently.
