In the last 24 hours, we have learned of the assassination of a Qasem Soleimani an Iranian major general in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and from 1998 until his death, commander of its Quds Force, a division primarily responsible for extraterritorial military and clandestine operations. Until the morning of January 3rd, 2020, 99% of Americans have never heard of this man. Now his death may mark the beginning of major activity in the region, and possibly worldwide. This decision was made by United States President Donald Trump who so far appears both triumphant about this event and not interested in starting a larger conflict.
