LET'S GET STARTED… Main Message: Burn the Boats! In 1519 Hernán Cortés landed in Mexico, the kingdom of the Mayans. He had with him 600 Spanish solders, a hand full of horses and 11 boats. Cortés and his men were about to begin a conquest of the area and failure was not an option. There was only one small problem. Cortés only had 600 men and none of them had armor. The task before them even seemed larger because in over 600 years, no other army had been able to capture the peninsula. This was a fact the Cortés was well aware of. With that knowledge he took an interesting approach when he landed. He did not immediately charge into battle, instead Cortés stayed on the beach and delivered a series of passionate spee
