Sinopse
Title: Why Bridges Collapse Hello my fellow heroes, and welcome to episode 68! On August 1, 2007, A Minnesota Bridge collapsed, 13 people were killed and 145 were injured. Investigators said the designers had specified a metal plate that was too thin to serve as a junction of several girders. The bridge was designed in the 1960s and lasted 40 years. But like most other bridges, it gradually gained weight during that period, as workers installed concrete structures to separate eastbound and westbound lanes and made other changes, adding strain to the weak spot. At the time of the collapse, crews had brought tons of equipment and material onto the deck for a repair job. There are many reasons why bridges collapse but there were a few common reasons: Earthquakes Floods Design flaws Poor Maintenance That got me to thinking about how a bridge collapse and the cause can parallel our lives. So how do these causes parallel our modern lives? Earthquakes – Something happens in our life that shakes us to our core.
