February 9, 1964, The Beatles made their U.S. debut on the Ed Sullivan Show to an audience of screaming girls, thus beginning the British Invasion. The Beatles not only claimed Irish roots but expressed the plight of the Irish in their music. Their music, in turn, has been covered by Irish bands from Brian Hebert to Maura O'Connell to U2.
