Our guest on the show was 19 when he enlisted in the US Coast Guard reserve as a hospital corpsman trainee. He was sent to Government Island in San Francisco Bay to help and care for the troops returning from Vietnam and the Mekon Delta. It was a life-changing event for this young man. He discovered how caring and peace are fundamentally connected. It set a career in the caring profession, not as a nurse or doctor but as a planner. He went on to become a planning and design consultant. He facilitated innovative management operations and new facility development for more than 120 hospitals all over the USA. His skill set was in demand outside the US, and he and his wife travelled the world advising hospitals and care facilities. His work was about creating environments for optimal patient and staff care. .
