Everclear singer-songwriter Art Alexakis joins Kyle Meredith to talk about the band’s new live album, Live At The Whiskey A Go Go. The frontman starts by proclaiming that he’s done with making albums and plans to concentrate more on singles and live releases before the conversation turns to his history of writing lyrics that seem to narrate a much bigger story throughout their catalog, lyrics that include plenty of easter eggs for longtime fans. Alexakis gives the backstories on “Father of Mine” and “Local God,” the latter written for Baz Lurman’s Romeo + Juliet, and why “Nervous and Weird” and “Fire Maple Song,” both from the band’s debut LP World of Noise, still excite and resonate with him. The live album also includes two new studio cuts at the end, “Year of the Tiger” and “Sing Away,” which features his own daughter in the music video, leading the conversation to consider how his penchant for writing with the hardships of youth, and his own battles, have lead to many of the relatable moments found in som
