Ep 49: The Benefits of the Outdoors for the Average Person
19/05/2020 Duração: 50minThis week Jason takes a slightly different path. He has tried to model this podcast in a way to bring listeners information from experts in the fields associated with conservation. But, this time, let’s talk to an average person, Dale Wilsey. Dale is a PA guy who I met through social media. Dale will give you his background to start the conversation which is pretty important. It’s important because stay at home orders have made a huge impact on people’s lives. For some, it has caused some physical, mental, and emotional stress. We have both found outdoor activities to help us relax and recenter ourselves physically, mentally, and emotionally. So, why not talk to some psychological expert? Because it’s the average person, like Dale, who can relate the best to the benefits that outdoor activities provide. You can find Dale on Instagram @d.wilsey.jr

Ep 48: Benefits of Soil Disturbance and Fire
12/05/2020 Duração: 44minIn today's episode, Jason talks with Marcus Lashley. Marcus is an assistant professor at the University of Florida where he has focused his extension program on understanding the role of soil disturbance and fire ecology in managing wildlife habitat, particularly of game species. Since spring has sprung, or is trying to, mother nature is providing us with a lot of green scenery. The annual green up and last week’s podcast got Jason thinking about how mother nature never leaves the ground bare. To that end, how can we provide good, nutritious vegetation for wildlife with as little effort as possible. To talk about just that, Jason spoke with Marcus over the phone. Fire isn’t something that is widely used in northern states so we have a lot to learn from the south states how to use prescribed fire to benefit turkey, deer, and other wildlife. You can find Marcus on Twitter and at ufl.edu.
